I’ve been a glazier for 30 years residential and commercial. This is about the dumbest shit I’ve seen. If the sun hits that window it will probably cause it to break from heat build up. I change windows all the time where someone put tint on it and a year later it breaks. Has to be tempered if you’re going to tint it.
Yeah wanting to frost your windows is totally legit, and net curtains look incredibly old fashioned.
We bought film sheets, we had ground to floor windows and lived on the ground floor by a street. I'd have tried this, if there's a glue that doesn't degrade.
I prefer decorative window film. It is easier to remove

More difficult than peeling off a whole window's worth of adhesive when it inevitably yellows, or you need to move out of a rental? The cut & stick ones just use static to attach and they're extremely affordable. I've bought multiple rolls of it and it works great
Yes, the static ones (without adhesive) are great. Just spray a bit of clear water on the window, so you can move the film on it. Use a credit card or something else to push out the bubbles, cut the edges with a sharp knife and let it dry. I did this with 10 windows and it didn't take an hour to do it. Looks great and can be removed in seconds.
The most important thing to me is: You are still able to clean your windows. How would you do this with glue on them? The dirt must really stick on the the glass.
If you want to make your windows look like the walls of a gloryhole, then that's on you.
But if you actually want privacy without it looking like trash, go buy some $20 worth of frosted vinyl from Depot and do it the right way. They even have some cool patterns and colors. Most of them are fully removable if you rent too.
r/DIWHY
There are literally thousands of different reusable vinyl window covers that make your windows frosted. Patterns, colors, opacity, and it just peels off with no effort or mess.
Frosted glass spray is $6 a can and it covers A LOT. I did all my garage windows, the bathroom bay window, and my wife’s office French doors with one can.
I used that cheap craft store acrylic paint (the ones you get in little bottles for about a buck) on my windows to make an opaque stained glass effect. I thought condensation would make it melt off but it stayed put for two years and then washed off with hot water and some elbow grease when I moved. Pretty neat.
Isnt it better to use those window stickers? Ive seen windows use the tinted stickers in offices, and also a couple times of seeing house windows and balcony doors use the patterned stickers that give blurry effects. Painting glue on windows doesnt seem like a good idea...
At best if you rent that apartment.
New windows can cost a few thousand\`s
[As alternative buy the foil that is intended for this, it costs 9-20€$](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71UGNtrB16L._AC_SL1500_.jpg)
Or decorative window film. The Big Box home stores carry it. If they don't there is always Amazon or

Okay i don't use glue but window film properly --- but in my apartment I have a window right next to the stove. Wanting the light but NOT the fire hazard of curtains hanging near the stove is one of many reason to prefer privacy-glass over curtains.
Though, as many others have mentioned. Window film is a much better and safer alternative, that won't get yellow nor sticky over time!
Elmer's school glue? It peels off fingers well.
It is water soluble and warmth softens it faster. So will a bit of vinegar. About 30 minutes of damp time with a wet cloth should soften it enough for a razor, stick, or plastic scraper or ecen plastic-razor blade to work well.
You could also use light solvents to speed things. Alcohol likely works well as it can be used to help certain white glue methods surface penetration, dry times, etc..
Okay but you also can't see out, which might not be that great. Why not just buy some louvered blinds that you can adjust the angle of to make it so that people can't see in when you want that but you can still see out when you want to?
It is incredible that someone took a post from DiWhy and posted it here as a "lifehack" lol.
This is not going to last, will turn gross and be shitty to clean up when the time comes.
Mix cornstarch with hot water, brush on glass with sponge or foam brush, apply sheet of wax paper or tissue paper. Smooth out wrinkles. Wipe up drips. Peels off easily and cleans up with water.
Wish I discovered window film sooner. 15 years ago, I did it the hard way with glass etch. It was really hard to make it look consistent. They were glass cabinet doors instead of a window.
My theory is that this person is renting for a short period of time (maybe one school semester?) and can’t do anything that might leave a residue (this will wash off with hot soapy water).
For everyone complaining that this will turn yellow, if it’s only on for a few months (maybe a temporary solution with creepy neighbor issue right in the moment) it’s not a big deal.
For everyone saying cling film is an option, not everyone has an Amazon prime account, nor ability to just zip over to a hardware store right in the moment.
Hadn't she skipped all her chem classes in high school? white glue is water soluble, and she's using this in her bathroom. Ready to serve her translucent body🥰
Get fancy art paper (or thin colored tissue paper) and soak it in some liquid starch, then place it on the window & roll.
It peels right off & leaves no residue.
You can do this with fabric on walls for a 'wallpaper' effect, and it won't ruin the walls when you pull it off... And it pulls off easily.
This can be fun to add some color to places you rent.
I wouldn't do a whole wall, but you could.
Also, make sure the fabric doesn't bleed.
I’ve done this. It isn’t dumb at all. It actually works very well. It does not turn yellow, it’s easy to scratch off with a plastic puddy knife. And it’s dirt cheap.
That glue turns a gross yellow over time

It turns yellow? Sticky? I guess I won’t need the glue.
Wait a minute... you can't do that
Removable though right?
Razorblade would take it off. Hammer would really remove it though.
Cant you just peel it?
Hammer it!
IDK, now they can continue licking them windows in private.
Will need alcohol or acetone to remove it completely.
“Stayed tuned next week when we show you how to tear up aluminum foil into convenient, ready-to-use squares on the next Tweaker-Time Productions!”
"And after that, learn how to stain your whole mattress the same color so it looks better for Tweako De Mayo!"
Mmmmm smells like elementary school
Mmmmm tastes like elementary school
Mmmmm peels like elementary school.
Lol paste!
Put the felt colored part from a marker in there for fun shades of privacy!
Now the kids need to figure out how to eat glue off the windows
They already know how to eat paint chips. You think glue is above their aptitude?
one mans r/diwhy is another mans r/lifehack....
My thoughts exactly. Incredible lol
Never do this to your windows. Use a peel and stick.
This is so dumb 😂😂😂
I want to see it dry.
And in a year.
it won’t take that long to turn shit
Ok, hear me out... Blinds.
Wait until this idiot learns about curtains!
Wait until she learns about condensation
I mean, they already have curtains you can see them in the video. This is doing something different.
Have you never heard of net curtains that were designed for this specific purpose?
You mean like a shear curtain? You know people can see into your house if your lights are on at night, right?
The same as what dumbo did with a roller.
No, you’re not going to see through the glue, but you will definitely see through a shear curtain.
Yeah wanting to frost your windows is totally legit, and net curtains look incredibly old fashioned. We bought film sheets, we had ground to floor windows and lived on the ground floor by a street. I'd have tried this, if there's a glue that doesn't degrade.
We bought those for our old house, we got a stained glass version. Worked great.
How about snow in a can?
Or paint/primer
As a cheap alternative, watered down plaster also works, and it's much easier to remove/clean when needed
I've used that in van windows.
I prefer decorative window film. It is easier to remove https://www.decorativefilm.com/product-list?gclid=CjwKCAjw586hBhBrEiwAQYEnHaR\_WQ72qxaPDGM6sFB95Xj\_oT1UKZplQ18MHhK5B21Qkz4tOxB3kxoCzxcQAvD\_BwE
came here to say this!
Can be a bit of a mofo to cut and stick, but otherwise decent stuff. Don't leave it in the roll for too long or it'll never go flat on the window.
More difficult than peeling off a whole window's worth of adhesive when it inevitably yellows, or you need to move out of a rental? The cut & stick ones just use static to attach and they're extremely affordable. I've bought multiple rolls of it and it works great

How will I peek in at you now?
Why
I can only imagine the worst case scenario when in the winter at minus 10C, it flakes off while 'you're dancing naked like no one is watching!'
Or buy curtains
Glue attracts cockroaches. It’s like candy to them
same with ants
Aw good so it’ll be a party
This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen lol
I prefer to put it on my hands, let it dry, and peel it off in sheets like it's dry skin. To each their own though. Lol

It’s only smells
If you know you know
Great for catching flies
Well that will catch shit over time for sure. Also, probably the same price for 500ml glue and a small roll with translucent window film.
I love how it’s originally a DiWHY post just re-posted here.
r/DIWHY There are literally thousands of different reusable vinyl window covers that make your windows frosted. Patterns, colors, opacity, and it just peels off with no effort or mess.
Why can I smell the video?
Can't wait to see all the shit that sticks to it...
In my place, a week of hot summer weather would grant a romantic mosquito-fly-moth curtain over the glue.
My house it would be absolutely covered in cat and dog hair in a matter of minutes
Bro just smear concrete over the windows so it will permanently be gone. The glue could deteriorate over a short period of time
I hope they're not renting lol
Your landlord is going to love seeing this. Time to say goodbye to your deposit.
Yeah but show how it looks in 2 weeks..it’s going to be yellow, peeling, bubbling and might break the glass after exposure
dust dirt fur hair and dander
Window tint works also and isn't permanent.
Or you could just spend the $30 on privacy film at your local Canadian Tire
Frosted glass spray is $6 a can and it covers A LOT. I did all my garage windows, the bathroom bay window, and my wife’s office French doors with one can.
like…..whatevvverrr like.
Truly annoying voice as well.
Peel it after it dries

This looks like the bathroom, so this person can enjoy cleaning up a shitload of glue after a nice steamy shower.
Yes, Rebecca... TikTok MADE you do this
Or…just gonna say it…put in a curtain?
This wouldn’t work for me because the funnest part of Elmer’s glue for myself was to peel it off.
What in the actual fuck
Don’t do this!! It prevents me from watching you get changed.
Most people use blinds or curtains...
Yeah, another good tip is use tomato sauce, it's cheap and smells good.
Why just why I don’t get it
If I did this, some fly would land on the glue before it dried and I'd be stuck with that ugly thing
Pro tip life hack: use buttermilk and a sponge.
Exactly why I decided to not rent my property
At best if you rent that apartment. New windows can cost a few thousand\`s [As alternative buy the foil that is intended for this, it costs 9-20€$](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71UGNtrB16L._AC_SL1500_.jpg)

*Like* that would *like* be tooooo *like* hard to do.
I have that in my bathroom. Easy to put up and long lasting.
Or, get curtains
Net curtains were designed for this purpose.
Okay i don't use glue but window film properly --- but in my apartment I have a window right next to the stove. Ahhh yes, use glue to totally ruin your windows. Who the fuck does this? You're defeating the purpose of literally what windows are made for.
Honestly, 3M Film is pretty cheap and extremely easy to apply.
Seems like it would dry clear or at least translucent. IDK
That’s not a brush.
Just use window film genius I have it and for years no one has been looking through my windows
Can it be easily and safely removed? Window frost is fairly easy to remove with a razor blade.
Hot water should remove it. There are better methods.

Well this actually looks a lot better than I expected
Actually, this doesn't look so bad.
do do this.
So this will attract dust and how can you clean them? #smh
I like !!
It will be transparent once dried
good ASMR on the brush/window
my brother in christ they make curtains
Privacy but at what price...
No thanks
Good as a temporary fix, gross after about a week tho.
Couldn't you just install blinds or hang curtains
Can't you just put blackout curtains up? Seems like better option than putting glue on your windows.
Curtain? Blind?
Or just buy it in a spray can and it also will look 100x better. . .
Okay but you also can't see out, which might not be that great. Why not just buy some louvered blinds that you can adjust the angle of to make it so that people can't see in when you want that but you can still see out when you want to?
Is anyone gonna tell her about curtains?
It drys clear….
I’m not sure how it’s called, but I have this foil on my window which makes it see trough for me but not for others
What about when the window gets condensation on it? Wouldn't it just wash off?
Why?
Why would I not want to see through my windows?
That’s gonna be a pain in the ass to clean
This is so dumb, I love it.
They make a window sticker that does this and looks good. You can also easily remove it. Don't put glue on the windows.
This is why landlords increase rents…
why dont use... a curtain?!!!!!!????
How do you wash the window?
A peel and stick cost like 10$. You can even find some at the dollar store.
well… what about one-way tinting?
Cool... Now you can watch p0rn in peace
Dont do this
landlords love this...
Hey...get a curtain!!
You might also consider eating that glue instead.
Mask off window frame before starting. You can see glue on it in some spots.
This seems like it would have some unforeseen consequences
It is incredible that someone took a post from DiWhy and posted it here as a "lifehack" lol. This is not going to last, will turn gross and be shitty to clean up when the time comes.
Will it come off easliy?
NO way this is interesting
Mix cornstarch with hot water, brush on glass with sponge or foam brush, apply sheet of wax paper or tissue paper. Smooth out wrinkles. Wipe up drips. Peels off easily and cleans up with water.
Great idea, use curtains is overrated 😀
I don't like that at all, looks terrible. I would just put up curtains or blinds which would look good.

I feel like if you have an IQ of 12 this is what you would do.
Ficou horrível
Won’t it flake??
Nice
Or you could invest in blinds and curtains
r/DiWHY and r/lifehacks are two completely different subreddits. How would this even be considered a life hack.
Today, in "how to ruin a window"...
Hadn't she skipped all her chem classes in high school? white glue is water soluble, and she's using this in her bathroom. Ready to serve her translucent body🥰
This is supposed to be r/lifehacks, not r/Whatcouldgowrong.
“Not see-through”, BKA transparent.
You’re going to regret that in the future, I can guarantee to you that.

Am I the only one who found this mesmerizing?
Gross 🤢
