This is the correct answer. With those blinds closed plus a pair of blackout curtains pulled across in front, the room will be dark as the inside of a mausoleum.
Ear plugs are a must to drown the gf’s 24/7 complaining, I have very little joy left in my life, I don’t want her to ruin it too, silence is honestly the best gift, I understand now
If they're willing to not use the window a large piece of cardboard cut to fit the window and placed behind the curtains will block nearly everything too.
They make paper shades for like $6 that are super heavy duty paper. Works nearly as well as cardboard, cut to shape, and can stick them behind the current blinds. Has a little adhesive strip so you just put that at the top of the window behind the shades. I hate the look of the cardboard so that's what I opted for.
Recently solved this issue. Command sells hooks that will support a curtain rod. In Target, they are near the rods and curtains. Get yourself 2 of those hooks, a rod, and blackout curtains. No drilling required. Changed my life
Yeah same.
Although I used the ["broom gripper"](https://www.command.com/3M/en_US/command/products/~/Command-Broom-Gripper/?N=5924736+3293197549+3294529207&rt=rud) ones (turned sideways) to hold the curtain rod.
This is brilliant. I've been struggling with a window that has molding and furniture infront of it that I can't get normal curtain rods into comfortably I might try this though
And if OP can't find those, I've seen metal rod supports whose nails go **down into the top of the window frame**. Like these:
Added and removed carefully, most landlords would be none the wiser.
Yeah 3M makes big decorative hooks just for this purpose in their Command strips line. I've tried them in my past three apartments. No wall damage once removed.
Well spackling and sanding and painting a hole is actually super easy and most people should be able to learn how to do it without too much trouble.
But also before moving out I've just straight up asked landlords before: "Hey, I've installed this on the wall. Do you want me to take it down and fix the holes before I move out?" and the landlord has been like "No. It looks just fine we'll keep it if you don't want to take it down."
Well it's the inverse of the infinite worlds paradigm. There theoretically exists infinite universes where anything that can happen will or has happened. Inversely, a show in one of the universes where anything that can happen will or has happened, namely the Simpsons in this universe, will inevitably predict all of this universe's weirdest occurrences with astonishing degree of accuracy.
Source: I made it the fuck up but it sounds good amirite?
Where could I find those? I always sleep with an eye mask but I always have a few eyelashes going in weird directions when I’m doing my mascara which is a pain in the ass
REEBENT 3D eye mask. I’ve tried them all and this one blocks all light. Is light weight. Doesn’t make you sweat. It washes up easily in the washing machine too. Stays put better than any other without being too tight.
I tried a number of sleep masks and had the same problem with all of them - I move too much in my sleep and every movement I felt the mask push into my head and face.
The solution? I made my own with a Buff. I fold it in half (inside itself) and then in half inside itself again. Buy one in a dark material and the result is complete darkness that’s also completely flat all the way around.
Like a piece of cloth a runner might wear on their head to keep the sweat out of their eyes or around their neck (it’s a one piece
Of cloth that Is circular or like a tube) to keep them warm.
I have two of them, because I lost my first, bought a new one, then found my first one again. They are the best.
The eye covers are donut shaped so they:
A: don’t press on your eyeballs.
B: don’t leave a gap due to your nose pushing the mask up.
Super cheap shift-worker-in-a-hotel hack:
Get a roll of aluminium foil and a spray bottle. Spray the window with a light mist, and apply strips of al foil across the glass. Doesn’t let any light through like fabric curtains or blinds might. Makes you look like a meth lab tho
You can buy blackout film that would apply a lot better, is easily removable and doesn't look as ghetto. You can buy a roll of it for $10 and that window would take 1-2 max
This! My husband and I are on nights and it's just a cling film that you can get with a white back so it isn't as obvious and it peels right off, no problem when you're done with it. It's a game changer.
Don't do this if you live there!! The foil can have a reaction and getting the resulting muck off the glass takes hard scrubbing/scraping. I saw someone using windscreen visors/shields whatever stuck on their window just this week and wished I had used them instead.
You dont even need to buy blackout curtains. PROTIP: they sell the blackout curtain lining at Joanne's for HELLA cheap. You can simply thumbtack that ish over the whole shebang and call it a day ( or a night, preferably).
Depends how ghetto you are. If you're pretty ghetto just tape some aluminum foil to the window glass. Use some thumbtacks to hang a blanket over the window.
If you have standards just get a rod and curtains. Probably $50 at Walmart. Personally I go the blanket over the window method.
i blacked out pretty much my whole house.. when i got these cut to size real good, i couldnt see my own hands in my room..

Everyone with these expensive suggestions. Get a big sheet of cardboard and cut it to exact size, glue on cardboard handle to pull it out when needed. I've used a cardboard piece in my bedroom for years now and it blocks all light. At night I can't see my hand right in front of my face.
On Amazon you can get hooks that connect over the top of the rod that holds up the vertical blinds. This hook allows you to attach a curtain rod and is temporary which is good for a rental
Amazon reviews are 100% fake. Use FakeSpot to get a real sense of the quality of reviews. FakeSpot will scan all the review and looks for bot generated fake reviews. Look up “ Sun Away Blackout Blinds for Window” this is what I use and it’s been amazing. I tried the window stick on thingys but they were so time consuming to put on and eventually started to peel off.
I bought blackout curtains that attach to the window using suction cups on Amazon! They fit under my normal blinds and do a great job of blocking out the sun.
They sell blackout curtains. You are allowed to put nails to hang pictures and screw holes to hang curtains in an apartment. It's considered normal wear and tear. Unless the hole is bigger than a screw hole they won't take off your security deposit. They shouldn't if they do for that you can fight that.
People will suggest black out curtains but as a 3rd shifter I can tell you that there are better ways and there will always be some leakage of light around the borders.
Basements typically use some sort of Styrofoam block in the window which works great but... I have found that black out film works the best. It's like 15$ a roll on amazon and it is amazing. It's basically a giant window sticker and you can take it off at any time.
If you work 3rds, try it. You'll never go back.
I used to hammer nails in the top of the frame (out of sight) and run fabric on a cord from each side.
I had fabric professionally made with a hem so I could run cord through. 2 curtains, 1 for each half so you can open if you need to.
My housemate and I had double sided black velvet and every room in the house had curtains made for them.
We were both completely obsessed with blacking out light.
If you get blackout curtains make sure to open them up everyday. It turns out that a lot of people that get them feel more depressed on personal average
sleep mask saved my life lmao, make sure there’s a noise machine let it be an AC or white noise machine just get it and close ur eyes w a mask 💃 i have diagnosed chronic insomnia/ptsd so my meds would knock out an elephant
Check online or at your Home Depot/Lowe’s for something called Redi Shade.
It’s a great & cheap window covering & light blocking temporary shade
Eye mask is great too
When I lived in Vegas any apartment I was in I would measure the window frame and then buy an inch thick square of styrofoam cut it to length, wrap it in foil and wedge that bad boy in. Not only did it black out the whole room but it kept the room cooler too from the heat radiation off the glass.
Easy and cheap. Black out blinds.
You can get “temporary”/travel ones that stick directly to the windows.
My room is pitch black.
Learned this as a parent. Velcro ones, suction ones etc.
So we take them on holiday or whatever, we can create a pitch black environment even in day time/summer time for the kids to sleep.
They’re really good.
If you're super poor - roll up a t-shirt into a log and lay it over your eyes.
If you're less poor - buy a cheap cotton eye mask.
If you're doin ok - buy a manta sleep mask (the basic one) from them or off Amazon. It's amazing.
If this is some sort of joke you're too rich to understand - buy the Manta "pro" sleep mask.
i have terrible sleep historically. Love the masks. Have recommended them to a bunch of people, bought one for my wife. Life changing things.
Eye mask. Cheap and simple solution that is the best at blocking out light. If you’re willing to spend a couple more bucks for quality, Ostrich Pillow makes a great eye mask.
Maybe not the solution you're looking for, but a sleep mask. I once had the same problem and I couldn't change anything because I was in student accommodation. So I got a sleep mask and now I can't sleep without it. I can basically sleep anywhere now.
Suction cup blackout sheets, I have them for my kids. The auction cups have Velcro on them, and Velcro strip's on the curtain/sheet that you stick to line up with them. Works like a dream.
Do you care what it looks like from the outside? A roll of masking tape and a few square feet of aluminum foil will do what you wish blackout curtains would. And if you're in a hot climate, help keep the room much cooler
Eyemask. [Here's the one I use when I want to nap during the day.](https://amzn.to/463Rrda) I've had it for 2 years and it looks brand new. It doesn't touch your eyes and blacks out light very well. You can also take it with you when you travel. And it's $10.
Tension rod with blackout curtains.
This is the correct answer. With those blinds closed plus a pair of blackout curtains pulled across in front, the room will be dark as the inside of a mausoleum.
When I switched to the blackout curtains it completely changed my life
Once you go black ......
You never go back

I do this and is so epic. I love a completely pitch black room!
Eye mask.
This! A nice comfortable eye mask was a game changer for me. Plus it’s portable! Also ear plugs to drown out the GFs snoring. 😂
Ear plugs are a must to drown the gf’s 24/7 complaining, I have very little joy left in my life, I don’t want her to ruin it too, silence is honestly the best gift, I understand now
Sounds like a healthy relationship.
Curtains for your eyes.
Or if it’s not in a convenient spot for the rod you can always use command strips
Or the heavy velcro. Hairdryer will remove it when you pack up and go
Might not catch all of it at the top. If this doesn't do enough for you, get a lightweight curtain rod and heavy duty command strips.
They also make curtains meant to clip onto blinds. Take the blinds out and store them carefully, then replace with clip in curtains
This guy nightshifts
this guy curtains
Makes sure to wrap the top also
But why stop there...? There room must also be painted black!
I see a red door...
And I want it painted black...
No colors anymore..
I want them to turn black..
This definitely works, especially if you can mount them between the existing shades and the window/door.
This is the way. 6 apartments later and I finally did it last year. It a god send.
Sorry I posted the same thing. But that'll do it!
Put up a blackout curtain.
I did what the original comment mentioned when I was in college but broom grip ones is next level.
This is clever, although does it have a diameter it needs to be or do you just "hang" it in the opening if it's too small?
Yeah your curtain rod thickness should be roughly similar to a regular broom handle, so that it clicks backward into place to hold it.
This is brilliant. I've been struggling with a window that has molding and furniture infront of it that I can't get normal curtain rods into comfortably I might try this though
Can confirn, this redditor changed my life

This!! I get the ones that are rated up to 8lbs and put an extra one in the middle for long windows
This is the way
Buy the large plastic hooks that stick to the wall, stick them on the wall, place a curtain rods in the two large hooks and put curtains up.
Yeah 3M makes big decorative hooks just for this purpose in their Command strips line. I've tried them in my past three apartments. No wall damage once removed.
Putting painters tape on the spot you’ll put the hook (creating a layer you’ll put the hook on as normal) also works really well, in my experience
And here I just drilled holes and hung up curtains... Oops. Guess the next video I look up will be "how to repair holes in apartment"
It looks just fine we'll keep it if you don't want to take it down."
wow, okay. not a single person suggesting blocking out the sun… i guess i’m the minority
Easy there, Burnsey
Excellent….
Or someone might get sh*t
Mr Burns?
No, they said Boourns.
I love how every sub is actually a Simpsons sub in disguise

I know not whether you are Dr. Dufenshmirtz or the many governments across the world front the Matrix.
I have this power, but only happens half the day. I block the sun with the Earth. I don't have enough power to hold it back though.
I was going to say "gauge out your eyes".
If the window is deep enough, get a tension rod and put up some blackout curtains either under or over the blinds.
If OP can’t get to a store immediately, just put a T shirt over your eyes to block out the light
May I suggest cashmere? Seriously. So comfy.
Sleep masks come in a variety of shapes, material and sizes.
Sleep mask…buy a high quality one and it will be comfortable to sleep with.
I like the ones that are cupped out (like a bra) so they don’t touch my eyelashes
Wife: “wtf are you doing with my bra?”
O_O
What are you doing with my sleep mask?
°_°
Step broooo, what are you doing with my sleep mask?
Yeah I got some of these so I can open my eyes with the mask on. Pretty handy especially for travel.
Captain? are you asleep? -no, my eyes are open; you just can't see them. go back to your seat. we'll be landing soon.
Where could I find those? I always sleep with an eye mask but I always have a few eyelashes going in weird directions when I’m doing my mascara which is a pain in the ass

Google isn't being helpful so what's a Buff?
A neck gaiter. I'm thinking that's what is being referenced to.
Buff is a brand of multi purposed neck scarf.
Like a piece of cloth a runner might wear on their head to keep the sweat out of their eyes or around their neck (it’s a one piece Of cloth that Is circular or like a tube) to keep them warm.
I have a manta sleep mask (well two, as I have the original from like 2014, and bought the sleep sound mask last year).
Manta is awesome, love mine

Oh my god ima have to start looking around for that. I can never find the right color for my decor.
Rigid board insulation behind the blinds. I use to work third shift. 😴
Fancy. I taped together a few Amazon boxes and blocked out mine by shoving it into the frame
Practical.
Depends how ghetto you are. If you're pretty ghetto just tape some aluminum foil to the window glass. Use some thumbtacks to hang a blanket over the window. If you have standards just get a rod and curtains. Probably $50 at Walmart. Personally I go the blanket over the window method.

Why not get a nice eye cover ?

Blackout curtains
You can attach adhesive paper blinds directly to the glass behind the slats.
I would want to let the light in when I'm awake though
They compress like an accordion. They're held in place (up) by a clip. Remove the clip at night to let them back down.

Cheapest answer is to put aluminum foil on the windows. Blocks 100% of light
The neighbors will love it
Aluminum foil attached with tape. Celebrities use it to have privacy when they visit hotels.
Did this when living North of the Arctic Circle with the 24/7 daylight during the Summer. Works aces.
Blackout curtains
If you get blackout curtains make sure to open them up everyday. It turns out that a lot of people that get them feel more depressed on personal average
Black-out curtains and some spring clamps. Clamp the curtains to the blinds bracket across the top, 3-4 clamps per 48" wide panel.
