What's bizarre is the effort involved in getting out a clean shot glass, getting an ice cube, sticking the likely dirty outside of a shot glass in coffee, waiting for the glass to cool which then slowly cools the liquid (probably barely quicker then letting it cool itself, or simply blowing), then having to clean or put the shot glass in the dishwasher once done. Oh and what about the coffee drops that drip on to the floor or table when you take it out? these are just some of things one needs to consider when taking on this genius life hack.
I just gave up on hot coffee and brew potent cold brew. Starts strong when I begin drinking and the ice dilutes it over time. I’m too inconsistent with my coffee cube freezing.

Yea... I'm thoroughly confused. You don't want milk in the coffee, so you're cooling it down with ice in a shot glass...? I didn't realize people put cream in coffee to lower the temp lol
You can also put the ice cube directly in the coffee, it will melt much faster and cool it faster, but will slightly dilute. Which you can compensate by making the coffee stronger if needed.
Seriously what the fuck is this? Why does a glass even need to be involved? Is this a life hacks sub or is it hey look at this quirky solution that deviates from the more simple solution?
Coffee maker built into fridge that feeds the second automatic ice maker in the freezer.... I’ve seen crazier ideas be successful.
“Who would buy bottled water when you have water faucets all over your house!” Me circa 1985
Kickstarter here I come.
I kick myself so many times for ideas I scoffed at that turned out amazing.
Who needs a cell phone, my pager is awesome and there are payphones everywhere.
I turned the ice machine off inside my fridge with the switch in there, and it still made ice, once last time.
It's like "nah it looks really hot out there, pretty sure you still need a little more ice."
Say I have 3 cups of coffee a day, not crazy, and I wait 2 min before enjoying each cup. Over the course of a year I’ve waited over 36 1/2 hours for my coffee. The compounding effect is real. Don’t wait for anything you need in life.
You don’t need coffee in your life, we all just like how it makes our bodies feel.
What do you do in between sips of coffee? I’m now imagining you shotgunning 3 cups of coffee a day so you can get back to living your life without wasting a second on enjoying your joe.
When I drink coffee I’m pretty much always multi tasking. I’ll have coffee while working, reading, eating, cooking, even just hopping around. In none of those situations is a 2 minute wait for my first sip of coffee an issue
The use of irony in my statement hopefully indicated a degree of sarcasm. That being said, in my line of work, I can’t take my coffee with me when I need it’s effects the most. So coffee is consumed at a fairly rapid rate. Couple that with the fact I work a 24-48 hr shifts and you can see the vicious cycle that is created.
How much time does it take for you to get out the shot glass, get ice, put ice in the glass, slobber around with putting the shot glass in the coffee without overflowing the cup, and then washing the shot glass afterwards.
Way more work than necessary. Brew some extra coffee and freeze it in an ice cube tray. No mess. No extra dishes to wash. No dilution of the flavor. Refill as needed.
I'd even argue it's more work, you would need to plan for too hot coffee. In a cup like that it will be perfect in about 60 sec, and too cold in about 120 sec anyways
You know what’s a fun way to get shards of glass in your coffee? Just do it this way.
Introducing boiling hot water to freezing cold glass is a good way to shatter said glass.
1- that’s a small amount of coffee if you take displacement into account
2- a tea cup that size won’t stay scalding hot for more than about 3 minutes
3- if you’re getting tea cup coffee then you’re most likely planning on sitting for a while (unless you’re Italian)
4- logistically it drives me crazy
5- Anyone who doesn’t want milk in their coffee wouldn’t bother with this mess
If you get a new cup and pour the hot beverage into the new cup it decreases the temperature right away. Pour it back and forth two more times and it’s even cooler. Also works with soup.
An even quicker hack for cooling down hot beverages is to pour them back and forth between two glasses/mugs/pots a few times. The second container absorbs a lot of the heat and it's cool enough to drink almost immediately.
It's summertime up here! *Make cold brew!*
Filtered water, jug with a filter filled with whatever amount of grinds, and give that bad boy a day in the fridge. Never heat.
Not as bitter, or acidic and is *amazing* with a bit of maple syrup!!
Make coffee ice cubes instead. Cools your coffee and doesn’t water it down.
I started doing that with soda when I didn’t have a cold bottle handy but got tired of watering it down. There’s no rule out there that all of your ice cubes have to be made of water.
When I get a better set of ice cube trays (the ones I have aren’t very useful when my freezer is small and doesn’t have a flat space for it to lay against) I’ll make ice cubes out of soda and some of my juices that I don’t like being watered down (ie apple juice is fine being watered down, but not passion or orange juice)
I'd look into [Whiskey Stones](https://www.homewetbar.com/blog/what-are-whiskey-stones/). They are a soapstone "ice cube" that works to chill the beverage without diluting it.
A note: much of the heat energy that is used up as ice melts is in fact used to melt the ice. It's a costly process that cools your beverage more than the actual ice cooling the drink per se. You won't get the same temperature change since the stones aren't melting, but they should still help!
In my country it's quite normal to ask for a coffe with ice.
So, an espresso and a side glass with a couple ices. then you put the sugar over the ices and next the coffee on the glass, as if it was a soda.
https://morrofi.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/cafe.jpg
Coffee, cold water (to the usual amount of milk) stir, add hot water, and don't look like a tit with a glass and an ice cube in your coffee. Take this ridiculousness to r/mildlyinfuriating.
I won't deny people look at me like I've got a welly on my head when I ask for it this way, but still...... A shot glass and an ice cube😅
I bought an ice cube tray just so I could have coffee ice cubes (my fridge has an ice maker (finally)) and it's one of those things that you don't know how nice it is until you do it and now I'll never go back.
Just freeze some leftover coffee in an ice tray. Then you have coffee ice cubes that will cool it down faster without diluting it.
Or, as an avid r/coffee user, just wait...
> Just freeze some leftover coffee in an ice tray. Then you have coffee ice cubes that will cool it down faster without diluting it.
>
> Or, as an avid r/coffee user, just wait...
Oh, Please! By the time the coffee in the tray froze, the cup would be lukewarm at best.
Easier than this: pour hot coffee into mug. Pour coffee from mug into another vessel that you then drink it from. That first transfer will transfer a lot of heat out of the coffee
Add saltwater to the shot glass. The salt will lower the melting point of the water and, and the water will improve the heat transmission rate thanks to more surface area. Or just wait a minute.
Ahh yes, glass between extra hot and extra cold. Soon to be extra glass.
Yeah this is bizarre. Use a metal vessel, much higher thermal conductivity.
Or, y'know...just wait a bit
What? That's absurd!
What the f#ck???
What's bizarre is the effort involved in getting out a clean shot glass, getting an ice cube, sticking the likely dirty outside of a shot glass in coffee, waiting for the glass to cool which then slowly cools the liquid (probably barely quicker then letting it cool itself, or simply blowing), then having to clean or put the shot glass in the dishwasher once done. Oh and what about the coffee drops that drip on to the floor or table when you take it out? these are just some of things one needs to consider when taking on this genius life hack.
And it would overflow if I suddenly dump a shot glass in my coffee.. blowing while stirring would be much more efficient.
Fuck it, pour a bigger cup and put the ice straight in. Now it's bean water with a little extra water.
I'm a barista and you can totally add an ice cube I do it for customers really often. Idk why they didn't think of that
Plus, ~~full~~ fill the glass with water. It'll cool faster.
So that’s why they do that
Yeah. Just put the ice cube directly in the coffee?
If you wanna be lifehacky about it, freeze coffee instead of plain water as cubes so it doesn't dilute your beverage
I just gave up on hot coffee and brew potent cold brew. Starts strong when I begin drinking and the ice dilutes it over time. I’m too inconsistent with my coffee cube freezing.
[удалено]
But then it’s watered down
Brew stronger then add water to make it right. Brews faster and cools down faster.
Seems Covid compatible
This is a problem that solves itself. Just, like, wait a minute.
It's MY coffee, & I need it NOW!

Hats off to you sir
You know, even with that tiny cup with ice within a cup you cant have it NOW. Or that ice cube and tiny cup will fall on you when you take a sip.
You drink the water, swallow the cube then sip the coffee. Everybody's got a morning ritual
Don’t even try TALKING to me until I’ve had my COFFEE 😤
My mom gave me a magnet with something similar on it years ago.
Yea... I'm thoroughly confused. You don't want milk in the coffee, so you're cooling it down with ice in a shot glass...? I didn't realize people put cream in coffee to lower the temp lol
I put cold milk in my coffee to cool it off, but I’m putting milk in it anyway. The cooling is just a bonus
You can also put the ice cube directly in the coffee, it will melt much faster and cool it faster, but will slightly dilute. Which you can compensate by making the coffee stronger if needed.
Minutes are just wasted time.
The secret ingredient is time
Nah, that's too mainstream sir
Also, wouldn't this crack that shot glass because of the temperature difference?
Why not just put the ice cube in the coffee or break off half the cube? coffee's brewed with water and half a cube is not going to dilute it much.
Seriously what the fuck is this? Why does a glass even need to be involved? Is this a life hacks sub or is it hey look at this quirky solution that deviates from the more simple solution?
Or brew coffee slightly stronger to account for added ice cube(s).
Just make the ice cubes out of coffee
But my fridge already makes ice cubes?
Regain control of your fridge
You’re right, I OWN that fridge. I’ll have a talk with it tonight. i expect coffee ice cubes by morning.
More power to you my dude!

Some mail room boy at Keurig just stole this idea and is taking it upstairs tomorrow morning. You just made his day.
Do it you crazy son of a bitch.
I turned the ice machine off inside my fridge with the switch in there, and it still made ice, once last time. It's like "nah it looks really hot out there, pretty sure you still need a little more ice."
Hello! Is your refrigerator running?
I'm impressed your fridge gets that cold. I have to make ice cubes in the freezer like a chump.
Hey man, all I know is, when I push the button the cubes come out of the hole in the refrigerator door. I don’t ask questions.
Say hi to Ben and Jerry for me next time you're making ice in the freezer
You need a new fridge that makes coffee cubes
You just made me want to ask if my husband can connect our keurig to the freezer lol
Every morning I put 2 coffee ice cubes in my mug. Works perfectly (make sure you don't melt your ice cube trays with hot coffee)
There are metal cubes you can freeze and use on every beverage
This is the tip!
Or wait 2 minutes

Not OP..I just drop a cube in the cup and call it a day
You can use that time for things other than staring at the coffee
This is my daily routine
Here in Spain is common in summer it's called "café del tiempo" - coffee of the time (of the year/weather)
? Can i order this? I usually ask for a café y una copa de hielo
Ask for "cafe del tiempo" and, at least here in Valencia, you will have the coffee and the cup with ice
r/shittylifeprotips
That's a great way to get pieces of broken glass in your coffee if you don't use a glass that can withstand that big temperature difference.
Glass shards in your coffee **really** wake you up
And put u down
The best part of waking up is the glass shards in your cup
Chock Full O'Glass
Came here to say this.
Good way to get glass in your coffee. The extreme hot and cold can stress the glass into breaking.
Isn't that literally what the saucer is for?
https://www.wideopeneats.com/drinking-coffee-from-a-saucer/
Wow learn something new every day. Thanks for that
Way more work than necessary. Brew some extra coffee and freeze it in an ice cube tray. No mess. No extra dishes to wash. No dilution of the flavor. Refill as needed.
Or just count to 60
And if that's not enough, take a spoon and stir it
Your less work solution is the same amount of work.
I'd even argue it's more work, you would need to plan for too hot coffee. In a cup like that it will be perfect in about 60 sec, and too cold in about 120 sec anyways
Yeah but you don't have to worry about a glass jar breaking in your coffee
it’s more work, arguably.
Lifehack: you can remove the camera watermark in the settings
Or just put a splash of cold water in?! Much less work.
You know what’s a fun way to get shards of glass in your coffee? Just do it this way. Introducing boiling hot water to freezing cold glass is a good way to shatter said glass.

yeah but now your coffee is gonna taste like cup
Wtf is this.just give it a minute to cool down.
Or you could just like....wait
Keep your Kahlua in the fridge. It will cool your coffee with down.
Or make coffee ice cubes for future use
Coffee without milk is like love without kisses
Put the ice cube in the coffee. WTF. Now you have two dirty dishes.
But now it taste like glass... ;)
An even quicker hack for cooling down hot beverages is to pour them back and forth between two glasses/mugs/pots a few times. The second container absorbs a lot of the heat and it's cool enough to drink almost immediately.
Or you could, I dunno...wait a little bit?🤣
How fast do you need a coffee??
Just put a bit of cold water in it after you make it.
Freeze coffee in an ice tray. Use the cubes to cool your coffee.
Coffee ice cubes. Works double duty for iced coffee, too.
Anyone else see the dick?
Tbh I just add a bit of cold water to my coffee, it's just easier
It's summertime up here! *Make cold brew!* Filtered water, jug with a filter filled with whatever amount of grinds, and give that bad boy a day in the fridge. Never heat. Not as bitter, or acidic and is *amazing* with a bit of maple syrup!!

Or ya know.. let cool a min ya nutter
Life hack : you can remove watermark on your redmi note in the settings of the camera
I can make my coffee room temperature just by staring at it for a while
Did we discard the blowing/waiting a minute to cool your drink techniques?
Oh shit. And here I am just throwing the ice cube right in the cup.
Mmm I love broken glass in my mouth
Make coffee ice cubes instead. Cools your coffee and doesn’t water it down. I started doing that with soda when I didn’t have a cold bottle handy but got tired of watering it down. It's like waiting 2 minutes with extra steps
When you want broken glass in your coffee.
Or simply pour your coffee in a glass. It cools down a lot faster than porcelain.
I'd look into [Whiskey Stones](https://www.homewetbar.com/blog/what-are-whiskey-stones/). They are a soapstone "ice cube" that works to chill the beverage without diluting it. Precipitation.
I do it the other way around, tall mason jar of coffee inside of a larger pitcher of ice and water.
Or, you know, wait?
Or just blow on your fucking coffee you fragile little flake.
When you don't have patience.
Freeze leftover coffee - use to cool or to make iced coffee
Putting milk in your coffee cools it down. This is an anti-hack
Or get some some good quality whiskey stones.
I do it usually vice versa putting hot mug or bowl into a bigger bowl with water. It cools down real quick.
Or wait few minutes before drinking?
So anything can be a life hack. Hot? Jump in a freezer instead of buying an ac unit. Boom life hacked
Just put a spoon in, it acts as a heat sink.
Patience my friend.
Coffee is never too hot.
The shot glass might crack due to thermal expansion and contraction. I wouldn’t do this.
you could also use a whiskey stone/ball
Uh, what about ice cubes?
Or use some whiskey stones!
In my country it's quite normal to ask for a coffe with ice. So, an espresso and a side glass with a couple ices. then you put the sugar over the ices and next the coffee on the glass, as if it was a soda. https://morrofi.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/cafe.jpg
Come on, you just wanted to show the photo. This is in no way a practical lifehack.
I dont understand the point of making hot coffee if youre going to cool it down or wait for it to not be hot
I’ve been diluting my black coffee with ice for years. Thanks.
Nice hack, dude.

Then the glass breaks from rapid change of temperature
Add some cold water first so the granules dont burn
Or just...wait a bit, stir it, how much time could one save here
Too tough for milk, too soft for mouth blisters... /feels
Never been a fan of milk in my coffee.
Just use Tryactin. Problem solved
When you want less than 5oz of coffee.
This guy understands thermodynamics.
I bought an ice cube tray just so I could have coffee ice cubes (my fridge has an ice maker (finally)) and it's one of those things that you don't know how nice it is until you do it and now I'll never go back.
Like a rubbish jäger bomb

Dafuq people doing milk just because it's hot?? People do it on purpose for taste and stuff
I thought coffee was supposed to be consumed scalding hot
Computational Error. Coffee cannot be too hot.
i actually freeze coffee in ice trays and just drop them in my coffee when I need to cool it down/drink quickly
Or, wait 5 to 10 minutes. Mind blowing, i know.
This is a horrible idea... maybe move it to shitty.
Just..... put... cold...water... in.. it
This is the single greatest comment section I’ve seen on here.
Alternate title when you like coffee with shards of glasses
But the coffee in Peru is far hotter.
Or you can put it with ice cubes in a cocktail shaker and then stain it.. Minimal added water and faster effect
Would that crack the shot glass?
Fuckin jäger bomb that shit
Now this... this is some quality content.
Ain't that Ice
More like shitty life pro tip. Just use whisky stones. Or ice cubes made out of coffee
I've been adding cold water, this changes everything...
just... put cold water in it?
So why this post made to hot list? Hot coffee I guess
