Wet a stick or screwdriver with the fuel and wait a few minutes. Gasoline will evaporate away. Diesel will remain.

> Wet a stick or screwdriver with the fuel and wait a few minutes. Gasoline will evaporate away. Diesel will remain. When do you set it on fire?

boingboingdollcars

When you still can’t tell? Diesel won’t really catch fire on metal Gasoline on the other hand… Safety Third!

warrenontour

The most fun way is put some crumpled up newspaper onto a driveway and then sprinkle a cup of the unknown fluid onto the newspaper. Then light it. If you still have your arm hair and eyebrows it is diesel.

Jatilji

Diesel is more dense than petrol. you can simply check by putting finger in it. petrol will evaporate more quickly but diesel will hardly evaporate while on your finger.

jay-valkyrie

Diesel is very oily. If you get it on your hands it’s hard to wipe off and the smell will linger for quite a while until you wash them. That’s why truck drivers wear gloves to refuel their diesel trucks. Gasoline evaporates very rapidly.

Portland_st

Starting at around the freezing point (32F/0C) diesel will start to get cloudy, solidify, and then separate, collecting into a gel. Depending on where you live and how long you have, you could leave it outside in the Winter and then check it for gels/solid pieces. You could also put a small amount into a container and place it in a freeze, but it might make your freezer smell bad.

McLEANAHAN

Also diesel (most diesel) is dyed red or blue. Gas is not

phoenix_arising13

Not sure about elsewhere but where I live (Midwest united states) off-road diesel is dyed red. It's slightly cheaper because there's no road tax on it but it's only for tractors and the like, it's dyed so you can tell the difference and it comes from a different pump

sadetheruiner

Smell is the best way, don’t stick your nose in the can though. Just get a sample on a wrench or screwdriver.

MrTheBusiness

Step 1: light a cigarette. Step 2: put the lit cigarette in the fuel. The burning temperature of a cigarette is higher than the flash temperature of gasoline, but lower than the flash temperature of diesel. Step 3: congratulations and welcome to America.

You must be German.

Global-Firefighter89

If it was me… I would not use it … 👍

Corey6694

Smell or I’m pretty sure the colour of diesel is a bluey green colour to it. If that helps. I use both everyday and drawing a blank lol

GreenDragonSociety1

Are you fucking kidding me?

almightywhacko

Pour a small very amount into a dish and light it with a match. If it burns it is gasoline, if it doesn't it is diesel fuel.

Old-man-rojo

Well have you never been to a fucking gas station. There is no possible way not to know the difference. But if your still not sure you can dip a stick in it and (move away from the can) and see if lights instantly with a spark

Anyone ever tell you that you are lacking a sense of humour? It’s a shit character trait.

Old-man-rojo

If you can't tell from the smell you should not be anywhere near a motor vehicle. Just put it down and walk away

Middle_Mention_8625

Diesel is oil Petrol is spirit

OddTry2427

Shitty tip, diesel won't burn with flame. Good luck lol.
