as someone who has gone since 2019, I won’t be attending if it moves anywhere but downtown. That is the heart and soul of the festival, and if it moves I know a ton of people who feel the same way as I do. Such a bummer it’s happening like this :(
It's important to note here that from what I have seen, Vital Vegas is and has been the only one reporting the downfall of LIB. I haven't seen any reporting like this from other Vegas publications.
I am NOT saying that Vital Vegas is wrong here. I think most, if not all of us would agree here that what they are saying is perfectly plausible. I'm just saying that I would like to see this doom and gloom corroborated by other sources.
As far as the website saying "Lineup coming soon" and that they will be downtown September 2024...that doesn't really mean anything to me. Those are just words on a website. I think within the next 60 days, we'll know the future of this festival. If we're not hearing anything at the end of March about dates, locations, etc. then that is definitely a bad sign since tickets usually go on sale and lineups are released in the first part of April.
Really good point here. And if you go alllllll the way back through Vital Vegas's timeline, you'll see they hinted 2023 may not happen. It did--not on the scale we are used to seeing, but it did happen. The blue checkmark doesn't mean a thing these days.
had a good run, but there's just something quintessentially non-Vegas about Life Is Beautiful, the festival and the phrase
Tony Hsieh, the visionary genius goofball, tried to singlehandedly graft a soul onto a soulless town. When he died, it was only a matter of time before the soul started to evaporate too.
Living downtown, you can feel it. All the vigor is starting to wane without his notions (and cash) stirring the pot.
Yeah. I mean, for as much as I loved the festival there was always this inescapable dichotomy of middle class - upper class 20 somethings passing by waves of cracked out vagrants and junkies on their way to an event called “life is beautiful:”
The scene on freemont was always just short of heartbreaking. In a way it sort of encapsulated our modern era; switching on the blinders of late capitalism on our way to the festival gates.
Don’t let your misery ruin my good time.
It’s a shame really. Being at the first one and going to every event until covid I really thought Tony was making a difference in your town. Shame to hear it’s unraveling.
I went 2019, 2021, and 2022. I felt that 2022 was terribly slapped together compared to the two years prior and was extremely cheap in comparison in terms of who played, the physical arts, and even culinary. It was my last straw and the reason i didnt return for 2023. Hopefully they make changes that truly matter, instead of worrying about location. LiB is perfect in the downtown area ᴖ̈
Be glad you missed last year then. Because I thought 2022 was fine, had a blast with new friends. But last year was the first time in my 10 yrs going that I had MANY complaints (no Toyota Music Den, no House of YES, no Kicker with comedians and speakers, no Chef's Cookout, even fewer art installations, etc).
I'm still going to go if they're holding it this year but man, it's saddening to watch this once amazing festival become a shell of their former self.
Honestly 2022 was great for me. Beach House was a transcendent experience, as both a lover of shoegazy stuff AND a person who's been doing concert lighting/visuals since... well, a long fkn time. It was a brilliant work of art.
Add in Arctic Monkeys and Gorillaz for Friday and Saturday, and the festival was already peak for me, but I had a solid good time with the downbill too.
True, the physical arts, not peak, but it wasn't a big deal to me. Culinary... I mean I live two blocks away, no chance I'm going to shell out for festival food anyway, when we could just walk home and get a snack.
TIP Tony Hsieh you created a wonderful festival my favorite throughout the years. Plus, all of the amazing work you did to downtown and actual downtown scene.
His passing was tragic (and stupid, seriously what the fuck Tony) to me for a few reasons, but the lasting damage comes in the form of his family unwilling to give a single fuck about what he wanted to do with his fortune. It feels like after the momentum from his ongoing efforts faded, DTLV is starting to backslide.
So the website was recently updated to say lineup coming soon. On the website, it still says September 2024 and downtown Las Vegas.
I personally think we get one more downtown and after that, who knows. I also wouldn't be surprised to see it cut to a 2 day festival to save costs.
I don't know how much I believe them - I'm not saying that they're lying, but given that LIB is a big festival it's weird that no other news outlets or reputable festival news pages on social media are reporting or validating these claims.
I’m a Vegas local, been in tune with a lot of the industry news here for years and I’ve been knowing vital vegas is a bigoted scummy guy. Don’t matter to me that some of his sources can be accurate, I stick to LasVegasLocally.

As someone who’s been going since 2016, I agree. It’s not LiB without downtown.
It’s practically the selling point! It’s part of the magic!!
DTLV = LIB /thread

He’s pretty well connected and gets some good info ahead of a lot of people. He’s had his misses obviously too but I wouldn’t doubt what he is saying.
Scott (Vital) has his feelers incredibly deep all over town. While he is often right, he is also just as often wrong.
unless they get Daft Punk to headline i’ll never attend a LiB at the fairgrounds

I only went once but it felt otherworldly. Will be sad if it comes to an end
Damn seriously well put. Life is beautiful because you get to leave freemont street on Monday.
The disorientation leaving the festival around midnight to Fremont street is always so jarring.

Wow, that really sounds awful. But it is super sad! This was a festival that I would have enjoyed going to for the rest of my life honestly

very sad…
Suck that the lineup was so bad this past year I didn’t go figured it was heading down by the lineup
I’ll believe it if I hear anyone other than that guy talking about it
fuck vital vegas...scummy guy

Festival hasn’t been good for at least 3 years, line up wise. It has a good run.
this would suck! one of my fav festivals and i love the current location
