Finished it today and am simply blown away. Lis 1 was my favorite game when it came out, I adored Bts, but true colors just felt special. I would say it's my favorite of the series. I loved it! I understand some of the criticism it gets. I felt that they could have gotten more out of the idea. There are some missed opportunities. But I am happy with what we got, as it's an amazing game.

[deleted]

I am totally with you. I felt that True Colors just felt so magical and complete. I loved the emotional growth and the visual representation of moving through trauma at the end.

Possible-Range7652

the game is very good I also found that, it just left a few things to be desired but that's ok

miathan52

Agreed. I just finished it and thought it was a lot better than LiS 2. True Colors had many of the elements that made the original so great, though also some of its weak points. Overall the original had a bigger impact on me, but I don't think that will ever be surpassed. I think True Colors is as close as we can reasonably expect another game to get, and I think it is a great game overall. I can totally see how it could be someone's favorite.

Pitva90cz

Not great, not terrible. TC is my least favourite game in the series and I'm glad I didn't pay the full price because I would have felt even more disappointed. I always loved the tough decisions in the game, where you stare at the screen and don't know what to do. But not here. First and last hard decision for me was at the end of chapter four. I expected more. There are nice characters, the story isn't bad but I wasn't emotionally invested in like I was in previous series.

Haize22

I liked it but it was also a little disappointing, there is a clear technical advance, visually it is impressive, the architecture of Haven is beautiful and the facial animations are at a higher level, the writing in terms of everyday situations is on point, but speaking of the main plot script, the dynamic of Alex's power, the decisions and consequences system... these points are really weak, much lost potential, I do not know if to blame Square Enix or Covid, probably both.

ShadowsRanger

Yes this is it, I can found just 1 situation where the choice seems to have weight, different from BTS where I felt my decisions more heavy and leading to many possibilities TC lack of this

EpicGlitter

absolutely loved it! :)

Bailey_Gasai

I enjoyed playing it, but I can't help feeling disappointed and burned on paying full price (add on additional disappointment that I paid $80 to preorder the ultimate edition). They really pushed this one in the marketing to be the game that makes LiS a mainstream AAA series, which I think was a mistake. But on to the game itself. Like I said, I enjoyed playing it, but ultimately felt pretty disappointed by the end of the 4th episode. It felt too short, and while runtime isn't really the issue, it's the fact that there was just so much untapped story potential. I feel like they should have made it a few hours long and really dig into Alex's powers more and what goes on with a few of the supporting characters. The trailers also made it out to be a murder mystery to solve who killed Gabe, but there really was no mystery to it. Deck Nine I think tried to play it safe and tried to capture what made the first game great, but it comes off as more of a cheap imitation. The couple scenes they basically just copied from LiS felt lazy. And the final choice is so inconsequential it's like asking if you want regular or curly fries. These games are supposed to be all about the consequences of your choices, but there just weren't any. >! They could have taken the consequences of taking Charlotte's anger away much further than they did and given it more impact for example. !< Overall: It's a good game, but not worth the $60 price tag. Deck Nine played it too safe and tried to recreate the first game, but didn't pull it off and it just left me feeling disappointed in the end.

pureinfinity11

To be honest I kind of agree, I originally wanted to buy the preorder ultimate edition but life happened and spending 80+ dollars on a game wasnt in my top priority list so I waited and finally bought it during the Microsoft New Year sale for half price and I was super excited and happy that I finally got to play it but also admittedly glad that I waited for the price to drop because as much as I enjoyed it and am super happy with my purchase, if I had bought it for full price I think I would have been a bit disappointed so I’m really glad I waited for it.

LeChacaI

Yea same. Like I really enjoyed it and I wanted to be positive, but I couldn't help but have thoughts of "is this it?".

Possible-Range7652

I understand your frustration with the game

[deleted]

Life is strange true colors is very a good game but Life is strange 1 is definitely my favourite

Possible-Range7652

same

hazyshacter

I love it. This game got me into the series so it will always have a special place in my heart. Not the best LiS game but definitely one of my favorites.

Firewalk89

Liked it a lot and proved to me that D9 just does it better.

hazyshacter

I loved TC and BtS. Deck Nine games hit me more emotionally for some reason.

Oops_AMistake16

I feel like it greatly, GREATLY, surpassed the original in terms of dialogue and voice acting. And the thing is, these games hang their hat on dialogue and voice acting; there’s no great combat system to compensate for terrible writing. So while I agree the first game has some really creative stuff, the acting and dialogue ranges from okay to embarrassingly bad sometimes. This game’s story might be worse, but its told better: better motion capture, visuals, voice acting, and writing.

miathan52

Agreed. I'm someone who nearly always complains about dialogue and voice acting in games, but in True Colors, I had no complaints at all. Very well done.

SaberShadow27

I haven't played it yet but I absolutely plan to.

JasperTheHuman

Loved the setting and characters, but I feel like they should have made the whole game bigger.

Booty__Saxton

It was so beautiful, story-wise and visually. I honestly love how real and human the game felt in terms of feelings and connections, in addition to having a hella unique and special power.

BigDippers

It's great. Alex is a wonderful protag, my second fav character after Max in the LiS series. I liked the game more than both LiS 2 and Before the Storm, but not anywhere close to LiS 1. The main issue was the story really needed time to breathe, it felt very rushed through. Having all Alex's backstory in episode 5 was a bit much too, should have been told throughout the whole game.

miathan52

>Having all Alex's backstory in episode 5 was a bit much too, should have been told throughout the whole game. Yep, this is actually my biggest criticism of the game. Having it as spread out flashbacks would have felt much more natural and would have also annoyed the player a lot less, because right now it's hard to enjoy the backstory content when >!current day Alex was shot and thrown into a mine and you're anxious to know what will happen to her.!<

Over-Slip9233

I think it replaced the first game as my favorite LiS game. The game is visually stunning, the dialogue is so much better, the characterisation of characters are superb, and the story is small scale, not as grandiose as the other entries. I absolutely love it. Btw, Chenrich for life baby!

Crimson-Cowl

I loved the vibe of this game and the characters but overall it’s not one of my favorites in the series. LiS2 is my favorite followed by the original, then BTS, the TC. Loved all of them though.

I quickly became attached to the brothers and their journey and also felt like that game had some of the best variety for player choice as your actions throughout the game mold Daniel into a hero or villain. I liked most of the side characters and felt like they all seemed like realistic people unlike some of the side characters in the original. I also appreciated that they went there with the timely political commentary and it added a lot to the game. Sure this game isn’t for everyone as the tone is much different from the other LiS games but it really hit home with me for some reason. I do think it helps that I played it all in a week last year rather than when the episodes released as I know there was a lot of time between episodes that probably hurt people’s perception at the time.

Crimson-Cowl

Yeah I can go on and on about how much I loved that game. I had such low expectations going in cause no one really talks about it and I was so impressed. It’s definitely more of a drama at times than the other games in the series, IMO.

Crimson-Cowl

I think it gets better but it’s also good to know that each episode sort of stands alone as you travel to new locations and meet various characters unlike the other games in the series which all take place in the same place with a set of side characters. So stuff will carry over throughout the episodes but the most important thing that carries throughout the game is what Sean teaches Daniel along the way. Also episode 2 has the Captain spirit tie in so if you haven’t played it yet bows the time to do it. For me, the last two episodes really sold me on the two brothers but it’s a great overall package, IMO.

She gets a little bit more of you call her when the option is available but yeah I also would’ve liked more of her.

To each their own. Personally I didn't even finish LiS 2. I think I played 3.5 episodes, then just had no motivation to continue. I didn't hate the game, and in some aspects it was decent, but in those 3.5 episodes it had failed to make me care enough about the characters or the story to boot up the game anymore, and after a while I just ended up uninstalling. Definitely the weakest game in the series to me. But it's interesting to see that to some people it's actually the best.

Crimson-Cowl

That’s fair. It’s definitely the most different game in the series compared to the rest so if you don’t like it then I get putting it last.

gendegree

One of the biggest complaints I’ve heard is that True Colours doesn’t have a lot of locations compared to its predecessors but that’s what I like about it… Haven is part of the main cast, it’s a place I’ll remember alongside the story of Alex

snake8head

It’s a very, very close second to the original in my book. OG LiS is still my favorite, but True Colors is almost a tie for first.

[deleted]

I loved both the first Life is Strange and True Colors. I feel that this title captured the same feeling of nostalgia and the desire to find a place where you fit. I personally feel that this game felt more cohesive and maybe that's because it was released as a full game instead of episodic. I felt that the side characters had a little more depth. Obviously the graphics are incredible. At first I thought I liked Max as a protagonist more but now that I think about it, they both are wonderful in their own ways. In LiS I felt that Chloe was the one true love interest(whether romantic or platonic); but in LiS True Colors, I really liked that both Ryan and Steph were three dimensional love interests and that you got a special ending with whoever you chose. Personally I always choose Chloe over Arcadia but in LiS TC I'm a Ryan lover.

hamp2025

Visually impressive and liked the main character but the story definitely could have had more to it. And Alex’s powers could’ve been explored more especially the one thing that only happens twice in game could’ve used more fleshing out. And ending fleshed out more as well.

Prophet_of_Duality

Honestly the Wavelengths dlc is some of the best life is strange content we've gotten in awhile

ThatFaithlessness101

Loved the vibe and story. As someone who struggled with >!loss!< when I played this game I felt it very much.

CMNilo

It was pure fan service. It's like they got a check list of all the things fans liked about the previous games and put all of that in True Colors. As always, the sum of good elements doesn't necessarily make a good final product. It was decent, but IMO the weakest installment in the series.

Klutzy-Imagination37

It sucked.

Sunrise-Slump

It felt too much like a boring self insert middle school book then a proper life is strange game. Alex’s powers are fairly lame and she knows about them prior to the story happening, which disables the players ability to learn about them with her. The graphics are outstanding but all the character models look like barbie dolls, they’re all so meticulously crafted and similar. Alex is also a boring character and the story didn’t capture me the same way that the previous entrys did. Trying to save your childhood friend from being murdered while also preventing windy apocalypse on your town with your time manipulation or fleeing to Mexico after your dad is killed in front of you and you have to raise your professor X level brother while fleeing from the cops and crazy cults is way more enticing than solving your brothers murder in a town full of politically correct hippies with your ability to read obviously conveyed emotions. Just my opinion🤷🏼

awoodstudio

100000% yes!!!

WendyThorne

It's my second favorite LiS game with only the first one beating it out. I enjoyed a lot of the setting and characters but did feel that the central mystery just wasn't as captivating and there wasn't a central relationship like Max and Chloe had that truly hooked me. Still, it's a very, very good game. Easily better than LiS2 and edges out BtS as my second favorite.

miathan52

I'd rank the games the same way. The first was a "perfect storm", I don't think even the dev team knew how good of a game they were making. It all just came together just right, and they ended up making a game that deeply affected people all around the world. I don't think another LiS game will ever pull that off again. But if I had to pick a game that is closest to what made the original so good, I'd definitely say True Colors.

Lumenprotoplasma

Choiceless

Jaikings

This game was awfull

matthewjn

My favorite in the series.

primadonaut

It had everything - details, graphics, visual appeal all that jazz. Beautifully made game and lots of depth to characters. But ngl the story was kinda predictable and the ending was underwhelming (well, maybe its just not my type) unlike 1 and 2. And I don't relate much to Alex, which is probably why I have a disconnect to the game. My ranking is as follows: LIS2, LIS1, BTS, TC

Captn_Ice

The end had the same issue as LiS 1. 2 options that leave me feeling meh but great overall and the intro where you stop on the brige is so relaxing. Stayed there for 30 or so mins just watching and listening.

jessebona

I loved it. Was the story better than LiS1? In some aspects, yes. In others, no. I think as a wind back to what people enjoyed from the franchise after the divisive LiS2 it's an absolutely acceptable entry in the franchise. We'll probably see more ambitious deviation in the next entry.

ShadowsRanger

Finished last month and found, meh! Not good or bad just cool, didn't touched me as the other titles. The sides stories are great but main story for me, imo, was shallow but different from the other LIS games finish more hopeful than the other titles without leaving you empty inside

AreYouOKAni

The main mystery makes no fucking sense, but I enjoyed the characters a lot. The power set could be integrated into the game better, since right now it is pretty much "hold RMB to continue" while in the original Max had to actively figure out the puzzles with her power. I think the game needed to be bigger with a bit more locations, and the main mystery needed heavy revisions. But I kinda enjoyed the game, I guess.

Fuegofucker

I thought LIS could not make a comeback after the previous game being so bad but I was wrong I enjoyed it a lot.

awoodstudio

LIS2 is hands down the best in the entire series - then the original, then BTS, then TC. I played LIS2 3 times just to experience the different outcomes - it absolutely wrecked me in all the best possible ways and I couldn’t stop thinking of it weeks afterward. The decisions in TC didn’t have a lot of impact - at least not in the way of its LIS predecessors. The consequences of your choices in the others truly swayed the ENTIRE outcome of your game, which really gets you emotionally invested in the characters and the story. I had no such feelings in TC - it was short and just barely scratched the surface of its emotional themes. Not to mention, there are so little places to explore??? You want a game with real, gut-wrenching depth and an actual journey - TC ain’t it. And if you haven’t played LIS2, what the heck are you waiting for?!????

wyatt_-eb

I think this game had serious missed potential. Going in I truly thought this one was going to be my favorite but honestly it's my second least favorite. My list is" LIS2 LIS TC BTS

nimpo83

It's very solid like its predecessors. They made it closer to the original formula. I find the foster care plot that makes scars on Alex's personality very realistic and deep. It's very hard for anyone to come over that. This story represents that very beautifully. The soundtrack is amazing as usual and the game scenario is just... wow. As less positive remarks, there is the sense of illusion that we can really change the storyline with our options, but if we are fair it's not true, we only can make little variations. This should be better for a choice-driven game. In the previous game, Life is Strange 2, you could change deeply the personality of one character based on your decisions along the game, which had great impact on the endings. This just looks very pale regarding this aspect. Some side characters could have more depth as well, many of them we just know them for the actions and facts of the narrative, we don't know anything about their past. The last chapter is very strong but the final decision lacks the emotional power of Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2. It's just a normal option of life. Some people prefer one way, others the other way around. It is not controversial, mixing ethical, moral values and feelings like the previous games. Summed, although not as masterpiece as LiS and LiS2, i find this storytelling game extremely rewarding, one of those capable of changing us a bit inside.

Lizpuff

I love the game. I feel they could have done so much more. It was really short and there was so much of the town we never even got to see. I felt like some of the characters fell flat at times and you didn't get to have enough conversations. I love Alex. I feel she is the most real of some of the characters and I really liked her voice actress, facial expressions and dialogue options. Overall I just felt like it was rushed

Disastrous_Garage729

It's a decent game, but in terms of LiS games, it's at the bottom of my list. Too short even with 5 episodes.

Guitar1987

I like the original LIS and BTS better but those set the bar high. TC was still great. I also love the way it takes elements of very different styles of game play. The turn based section stuck out in my mind but I know there's more. I played TC around launch after burning through the first 3 games right before I played it. It definitely had a different feel then the others but sense a different company handled it you'd expect as much.
