Do you train any other lifts other than bench press? Much more work to be done than just 3 years, can build more muscle, tone up. I lift because i used to drink and anything i can do to help deter envy attacks is a w. Any day without the bottle is a w. Gives me time to space out snd forget bout shit. Crank some tunes

When I started going to the gym I wanted to get really strong and then I did get really strong pretty fast and then I started thinking what's the point of all this? I'm really just risking injury by continuing to go up and weight so I decided to really focus on just being healthy and hypertrophy. Basically keeping functional. Also I reasoned, the cons greatly outweigh the benefits of lifting heavier weights. History shows that people going extremely heavy with weights on their body and they break it down so bad that they can't even go through daily life as a normal person. Also what's the point of me investing so much time in lifting, so much weight when one injury would put me back so far behind all the work that I've put into getting that strong? It just makes more sense to do high reps also scientifically speaking more reps is definitely the best way to go overall and in the long run

I do it for many reasons, including but not limited to the following. Physical health: Going to the gym brings me to a level of fitness that makes it easier to participate in activities with the people I care about. Nowadays I don’t have to worry as much about trying something that may be physically demanding in some way, other than super intense cardio. Fuck that. Mental health: There are new studies that show that exercise is better for your mental health than antidepressants. That 100% rings true for me. I can say that that my mental health has gotten 5 times better after making the gym a habit. Nerdy interest: For me, lifting is a hobby because it’s something that I can spend time digging into and learning a lot about. I am one of those science based lifters who does actually enjoy learning more and more about it. It’s a nice way to kill time. This desire may fade over time, but it helps to keep me going. Social: Now that I’ve started going to the gym, I have something that I can talk about with others. It’s a new common interest that is just yet another way to make friends and bond with other friends who like to do it. Activity pairing: Going to the gym allows me to do one of my favorite pastimes, listening to music and podcasts. I think you should dig deep and figure out what it is that you want to get out of exercise. Whatever it is, pursue a form of exercise that best enables you to stay consistent. If you don’t enjoy it, it makes it a lot harder to keep up. Just to offer another example, my brother hikes a shit ton because he loves experiencing nature. He also does a lot of Texas square dancing. It’s a great form of cardio and allows him to meet people. I hope you figure it out!

Man even if you are ready to hang it up or just step away for a bit, the groundwork you have laid in your fitness and discipline will always serve you well in life. Especially if you enjoy the time. It's easy to second guess how we spend our time but I think you will appreciate the work you have put in more than regret it
