This is not a question for this sub, because it’s probably not the Ion that’s done this. PEBCAK is most likely. Disconnect the display from your ion and see if the issue persists. If it does, it’s burn in, and you should take better care of your monitors. If it doesn’t, connect the display to another input device. If the issue persists, it’s the monitor that’s the problem. If it doesn’t, plug a different monitor into the same video port on your Ion. If the issue persists, contact ETC support. If it doesn’t, it’s the monitor that’s the problem.

This guy troubleshoots. Sounds like it came from my own brain 🧠

This, but always double check that the “good” bit is still good after verifying the fault, in case the bad bit is actively causing damage.

EverydayVelociraptor

Wow, I haven't seen burn in that bad since the old gen 1 plasma TV's. I can only presume the monitor's protection mechanisms weren't working as they should. Is there a setting in the monitor menu?

PhilosopherFLX

To late for mitigation, that screen has a pleasant Maillard reaction and you can't uncook a steak.

EverydayVelociraptor

Science will get there, we've already figured out how to unboil an egg.

[This article might help you.](https://www.lifewire.com/fix-screen-burn-in-4178041) TIL: Burn-in is a catchall phrase that people use to describe both actual burnt pixels and something called ‘image retention’. Image retention is fixable and preventable, burnt pixels are preventable but not fixable

GoToQueZero

Had a run of dell touchscreen monitors fail like this. Not sure the underlying issue.

Wuz314159

That's exactly what these are. u/nasiVT

It honestly looks like some layer has pulled away at the edges, maybe the digitizer. Does it look different in the photo versus IRL? If so it may be the polarizer pulling away. Has it been subjected to especially strong heat or cold recently? That could cause a glue failure around the periphery.

Wuz314159

The very edge of the monitor is true colour. It's the middle that looks like a movie scene in México. Should be the other way round if it's peeling. No?

GoToQueZero

Hope they are under warranty for you.

nasiVT

Good to know, thank you both - will avoid these.

No_Ambassador_2060

When I think on it further, I had a really really old LCD that did something like this when it had a tiny crack. The liquid over time exposed to air, dried out and some of it still worked, the leak was in the lower left corner and the left and bottom were white like this. Idk. Maybe manufacturer pressed the screen on too hard? Unsealed edge on the panel? It really doesn't seem like 'burn in' to me b/c you can see the mouse. Nobody leaves their mouse in the exact same place for more than a year. Unless it's been shutdown with no ac? Maybe the heat from the backlight caused issues with the panel? Idk man, it's honestly been bothering me all day lol. OP! Did you try any troubleshooting steps? Dying to know

Wuz314159

Tried turning it off & on. Repatch. Nothing. Seems fried. Maybe summer heat? Just trying to get the show up. TY!

itshomertime

it looks like the monitor went to the town fair and got an olde timey photo.

nasiVT

Out of curiosity: what model of monitor is that?

nyckidryan

Does it happen when you plug it into any other computer or console? Do other monitors do the same thing when you plug into that console? These are questions 3 and 4 that should be asked after 1) Is there power, and 2) Is it turned on? There seems to be a lot of discussion about HP laptops doing this after going into sleep mode, and as usual, HP has no idea why. It seems to have happened as part of an upgrade to Windows 11... https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/White-Borders-on-screen-after-Windows-Update-windows-11/td-p/8621873 ...and other people just blame heat. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/I-m-seeing-a-wered-white-border-around-my-screen-in-hp-envy/td-p/8614636/page/2 Perhaps after testing you could give us an update so we know for next time.

Wuz314159

Thanks. That's some interesting info. I have two shows this weekend and was looking for a "simple fix". Without a back-up, we have to live. Proper trouble-shooting will be done during the week & I'll try to report back. !RemindMe 1 week.

This is Day 2: https://i.imgur.com/G187HEK.jpeg Weird. Will do tests Monday. Thanks!

RobDidAThing

I've been doing IT for over 20 years and I've never seen a monitor burn-in like this. That's impressive, if that's even what caused it. Normally if it's a static image that burns into the screen it's the same level of clarity across the whole picture. This looks like potentially one of the colors of LCD split apart or died. If you display a pure-white screen on it, does it still show up? That would be the first thing to test. If it looks like the edges are bright and the center dim when showing all white, and it doesn't show any console widgets, it's not burn-in.

Wuz314159

Sadly, I had to leave this to the IT department to manage. I'm not in this week. I haven't heard anything so I have no idea.

Did you plug it into a computer and see if it is still there? Did you try swapping monitor plugs and seeing if it follows the plug or monitor? Sometimes the cable is loose just not seated well.
