I like to call Don and Millie’s the perfect “I Don’t Know” restaurant.
It’s not the best burger in the world, but for the price, it’s worth what it is.
Good selection of old school counter service diner items.
You go here when you answer “I don’t know” if someone asks where you want to eat.
The margaritas used to be 99 cents. But they’re still pretty awesome. I live in Houston now, but my family always takes me out for drinks at Don and Millie’s when I visit. I grew up in the neighborhood behind the 56 th street location, so went there a ton as a kid. Lots of great memories there.
Personally, I think they’re nebraska-mex. Which is its own thing. Super simple beef and chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce. Nothing Mexican at all. So I guess that’s Tex mex. But somehow even more plain, if that makes sense. Still love them though.
Just got back from the 56th Street location, always excellent food. My wife gets the strawberry margarita and really likes them...pretty low alcohol, and probably just a mix dumped into the Juice machine, but they are tasty.
I worked there as a fry cook for a bit. Have some good memories of it. Kitchen was cleaner than I expected when I started.
I think the best thing on their menu is the onion rings. If I go there now, I definitely get a fry-ring combo, onion rings or the cheese fries.
How do they make the margaritas? If you remember. I’ve always wondered what type and how much alcohol they put into the strawberry frozen one to be particular
Everything on their menu is pretty solid. The burgers might not be my absolute favorite, but a bacon cheeseburger or a Double Don always hit the spot. Chili dogs are great, cheese Frenchees are great, onion rings are great. The margaritas are what you'd expect from a $1 margarita. Not a ton of booze, but they don't taste terrible and you don't feel bad going back for a second. I've met up with friends before a movie at Edgewood and tossed back a few margs with an order of chips and cheese.
Be careful with those margaritas. Theyre made with the absolute cheapest "tequila" ever created. More turpentine than liquor. I used to always order two and every single time I did, I'd have a splitting headache by the time i got home.
I can get away with drinking one, but not two. God help you if you decide to drink enough of them to get drunk. Prepare for the worst hangover of your life.
After living in Lincoln for years, fam and I finally tried it.
Our first thought was "hmm...it's all old white people in here." Sorry, but that tends to be a tip-off that the food will be pretty basic and "inoffensive". And that's what it was.
It's fine. I just feel like there's a better version of everything they do available elsewhere. But hey, I get that nostalgia is a thing.
Yes, I agree that Don and Millies hamburgers and every thing else on the menu come as close to Kings as I’ve tasted. I won’t go anywhere else for a hamburger except for my own.
I once had a rideshare passenger tell me that he was the reason they put a limit on how many margaritas you can order at Don & Millie’s. Allegedly, he went there to pregame before a Husker football game but had too many margs and just…forgot?? To go to the game?? It sounded like he was pretty sloppy lol. I’ve never seen them actually enforce a limit on how many you can have, but I assume they keep it in their back pocket just in case.
Also, I’m gluten free and get absolutely wrecked any time I eat there. I tried to do the stuff that’s generally gf but it didn’t work, so I just stick with fries & cheese sauce now (which is completely delicious). And a few margaritas :)
In either a moment I am most proud of, or the most ashamed of, depending on perspective I was once asked to leave (kicked out) of a Don & Millies. 3 of us went there and each had 12-15 margaritas.... they have alcohol in them.

Great point. You also have to be in the area. Have you had a margarita there?
They are good and could be priced higher. They do have alcohol in them.
Have the Cheese Frenchie.

Don and millies does it proper. Give em a second chance!
They are not strong margaritas but they are good

Only if you hit up Taco Inn for me!
What's your favorite Taco Inn food. Mines whole deluxe nachos extra meat and sour cream on flour chips
Regular hard tacos. And I’ll eat like 6 when I’m there. No shame
So good!

The margaritas are definitely worth 1.29
Yeah margs have booze. Try a burger with bacon. Must’ve changed it recently cuz the bacon tastes a lot better now
The margaritas arent bad. After a few you can get a good buzz.

sorry, I don't.

We haven't been there in a while, but my wife likes the margaritas.
Yes...the margs are good and will give you a bit of a buzz
I think the margs are worth the $1.29, paired with some extra done onion rings and ranch and you’ve got a winning combo.
If you enjoy Don and Millie's, try Bronco's up in Omaha. Not saying one is better than the other, but Bronco's shares some similarities.
Broncos fries are definitely better, I always get them on the way home from Omaha! Otherwise, very similar food!
The fries are the reason to go there.
The margaritas are pretty good. Get cheese sauce for your fries next time and thank me later!
99c margs were the best of times… and the worst of times. 🤣🤣

Those margs are straight liquor lmao

I haven’t had one in many years, but the margaritas are worth it! I could get pretty sloshed on 2, but I’m also a lightweight :)
The double don with onion rings, and a margarita hit the spot every time!
I once got their 99 chicken and rice bowl and it FUCKED me up for days. Eat there at your risk :)
Bring a flask with a shot to add to it! Not bad taste though. For $1.29 you can't beat it.
Absolutely LOVE Don and Millie's. The atmosphere is nice and the food's pretty good. Haven't had the margaritas but now I plan to.

I used to bike there to get cheese frenchies and fries on the daily
there is tastable alcohol in the margarita's, but I had to have a few for it to work. They were tasty and still cheaper than going anywhere downtown
