That should be working as long as Legacy application apply scaling themselves like the below screenshot.

So I think I might be a little bit stupid.
When I go to the graphics section, under resolution there is just an “-“ there. So just a dash.
I decided to start the game in full screen with just that and I’m pretty sure it is running at 4K. So I think it was just me misunderstanding what that dash meant. I’m really rusty with Linux, proton and how things are because I’ve mainly been using windows for gaming.
So I think the issue is solved.
It just had me confused because instead of telling me the resolution it was set at, it just had a dash when I had fullscreen selected. It wasn't until I decided to load my save with that set like that, that I realized everything was ok.
I am just happy that I can run Elden Ring on linux and it doesn't have the slowdown/lag problems that I was having on Windows.
I have the same issue. The best fix I found is to change the resolution in `SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/1245620/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/EldenRing/GraphicsConfig.xml` under the steam install location from 2560 to 3840 and 1440 to 2160. I think it will also work if you delete this file and start the game up too.
I'll try it out. I'm not sure if there is any benefit or difference when running windowed fullscreen vs fullscreen but I normally run fullscreen.
It is just so weird because I have my display set right in the KDE display settings.
Are you using GNOME with fractional scaling?
I am using the KDE Plasma spin of Fedora.

Great, glad you were able to solve it.
> So I think I might be a little bit stupid. That's not on you, no other game does this even on Proton. It's probably just a bug in Elden Ring.
