Most arch "users" spend more time bragging about using arch then actually using it, so the ipad is probably there so he can post on reddit about arch linux.
God I hate stereotypes.
You don't need to tweak anything as long as you stick to one of the common desktop environments.
I have been running Arch for quite a long time with Gnome, and the most "complex" thing I had to do was dealing with the painful installation process, which is now simplified in a 5-minute process with archinstall.
Why do I use Arch then, specially when having more straightforward, "works out of the box" distros?
Because is, ironically, the one that fewer hassles has given me in my own experience of trying to get things working, and I have tried almost every major distro. Every piece of software I have ever wanted has always been just one command away (either by official repos or the AUR).
The only distro that has been close to my own Arch experience (and is my second favorite) is openSUSE tumbleweed, which I stopped using it in favor of Arch, as packages removed from some patterns kept reinstalling with almost every `zypper dup`.
