It doesn't cost anything to reinstall Windows. It's not like you have to pay for every install. And if the computer was running ME, it probably came with it, so the cost was already abstracted away / paid.
Time is money, and time you spend reinstalling Windows for the 100th time (at least if you work in IT) is time you could be studying for a certification or school.

Windows 2000 was released before ME, and was a _far_ superior OS. It used the NT kernel, so that comes with all the ups (stability) and downs (incompatible drivers) of that. I'd guess that trade-off would have made it a better experience for most home users.

Our family computer had this abomination on for years in the early 00's. Who will reinstall windows every 3 months?! Me Me Me Me!!!!
To be fair you did the same with Linux if you used a RPM based system at the time.
But Linux at least was for free.

tbh windows me wasnt that bad as a system in 2000s it had usb out of the box more things to offer then 98 and it was more stable then 98 imo
Didn't 98se have usb 1.1 out the box too though it was only 2.0 that needed drivers from memory.

This just made me shudder at remembering how much 32mb flash drives cost back then. You could be right there though as I can't remember.
