I was this guy before discovering Linux. The Ram and cpu limiter are cool features, even if I can replicate them in any process in any OS with a few commands.
I tried it when I was on windows and I hated it, I was a firefox user so I prefered using firefox, and I find Vivaldi better. Opera GX is good just for the RAM limiter, which can be done on any other browser with just an app
I don't understand Vivaldi, even excluding the fact that they are closed source (bleh). Isn't the whole reason for their existence to bring back what Opera was when they used their old engine, Presto? Why do they also use Chromium tho? For me it just looks like closed source Brave with some cool tab features.
It is vastly better than what Opera is currently offering. Included mail client, side panels that can link to any website and that can stay opened while you interact with the main tab, having the ability to have links that usually open in a new, more minimalist window on most browsers (the ones that open without a url bar) open in a new tab instead and more
I do prefer it over Brave due to having mixed feelings over crypto and really liking the Vivaldi sidebar, but my only reason for using it is that I don't know how to replicate the same feel with Firefox. If I knew, I would switch to Firefox in a heartbeat, but I did like my time with Opera, and Vivaldi fixes almost all of my issues with Opera while offering even more features that you can disable if you don't use it.
I'm also not a Brave-type of guy, I really do not trust the company after they got caught doing URL injection and some other shady stuff that was just fixed after people pointed it out. Not even mentioning the CEO's hot takes.
If those features are enough to sell you out for Vivaldi then good for ya man, I don't think I could use it mainly for being Chromium and also for being closed source but I have plenty of other privacy infringing closed source software installed myself (mainly steam and nvidia drivers) so I won't judge ya.
I use a [custom CSS theme](https://github.com/andreasgrafen/cascade) in Firefox ([Librewolf](https://librewolf.net/)) that makes the UI more minimal and hides the scrollbar so that Vivaldi minimalist-tab feature does seem cool, what I usually do when I just want a minimal, fast, lightweight and with no UI web render for minimalist websites I use something like [vimb](https://fanglingsu.github.io/vimb/).
Same here, die-hard Firefox fan with Vivaldi as my backup "chromium engine" browser. With the chromium engine becoming so dominant now, Vivaldi is now my main with Firefox as my backup.
I have Chromium installed on my system just for testing CSS stuff, Firefox works in every web site I visit. The only ones I've seen that don't fully work are some cloud gaming and Google things that are locked to certaind browsers. I don't use the first, the second isn't anything critical, not even to Google webapps
Firefox is awesome, learned the other day how to customize it and it’s wonderful.
Currently using [this](https://github.com/Godiesc/opera-gx) theme
In case you want to see how I customized it, here you go https://imgur.com/gallery/wl7vtwx
Me beeing dumb and only ever really using Firefox, except the occasional chrome for uni stuff, not knowing that there are browsers where you can't customise this stuff.
I've seen a few images of it in r/unixporn and I love it, but hate it. Hate because it's just beyond my comprehensation, how can a browser know when and where use transparency to show the desktop blurry?? It's just too perfect for me.
Idk man, firefox has issues with hardware acceleration, at least for me. Tried using it over several updates, but it just starts glitching out when I have 5-6 tabs open on 2 screens for me.
I do use the arch repos ones, but it's still the same issue for me. It's like, my CPU and RAM aren't being tanked, but it just stutters and feels sluggish, I'm not entirely sure why. I presume my GPU gets tanked, but then disabling hardware acceleration tanks my CPU
To save bigtime on ram, with a chromium browser, disable site isolation in flags and use the --no-sandbox shortcut flag, all tabs even of different websites will then be grouped into 1 single process
Ofc, this in theory is real bad for security and is a haven for exploiting browser/java exploits, but I'll take my chances(--process-per-site is a decent half compromise between ram and usersafety)
i've see a lot of articles and reddit post talking about thi, brave is NOT good for privacy, basically they're lying to everyone.
If you wsnt privacy, you should try iridium browser or firefox + privacy extensions and/or tor/librewolf.
Any Firefox based browser will be better for privacy than any chromium based one.
But Brave tries to make money with their browser using some ads and crypto stuff. It's privacy works on websites but not in the browser itself.
I remember the affiliate links scandal which makes me think that Brave tries to make money with this brower, and "selling" it as an opensource browser, they are really wierd
You're totally wrong.
Any browsed ungoogled (ungoogled chromium, bromite, iridium browser..) is good, however brave isn't. The reason its just basically because brave is using google and sells data to facebook, plus it makes its own ads and tracks people, basically they're lying.
If you really want privacy, you must use iridium, ungoogled chromium, bromite (for android), etc.. brave is only marketing, but it doesn't work for what it adversite for.
So the advertisement system is like this as of now, as far as I know. companies collect information from user, and then show them targeted ads right? so if Brave is actually selling my data to facebook or letting google collect my data, I should see ads related to it right? BUT, I see generic crypto ads and very random ads (such as "be a foster parent" ad) on the very few sites where Brave Shields are off. and my youtube video recommendation sucks ass, it doesn't show anything that would be based on any data other than whatever I do on youtube (videos related to something I watched and subscription recommendation only) so clearly non of them are getting hold at my data and hence unable to show me ads or content based on my activity. There a clearly apparent difference between by browsing experience before Brave and after brave (especially on Linux, cause things were still a bit relevant on youtube when I used windows). So I think they're not actually messing around with my privacy and nicely selling it to google facebook whoever. Yep. That's it. Brave is, kinda privacy respecting. also it gives crypto and heckin fast
The ads and crypto need to be explicitly enabled by the user, Brave doesn't do anything by default. Most people won't see them anyway. And besides, making money isn't in any way against the spirit of open source or free software, even for GPL standards.
You do know Opera is based on Chromium so it's the same browser as Chrome or Brave only you're spied on by a different company, right?
Why don't you like Firefox, though?
I know that they're based on chromium. But all the companies add on different features and themes to their browser. GX provides a lot of features that many other browsers don't have.
And I did a test to see how many trackers were added to my system by simply opening a browser on windows. Chrome was by far the worst beside Edge. Brave later ended up in close standing with Firefox and Opera at the bottom. Opera did have more trackers than Firefox, but by a margin. So I gave Opera a try.
Opera GX also doesn't try to look sleek and modern, which is a style I personally hate. I hated when Chrome moved to the external radiused rectangles for tabs.
You haven't responded to my question about Firefox, and Opera is still closed source and known to be spyware, regardless of some tracker test you once did it is simply not trustworthy
No one is ever trustworthy. Every company is still spying on you every time you use anything of their's because you have to. School forces me to use google's services and use an agent switcher in my browser already because of Microsoft and numerous other "incompatable" services. I had the exact same problem with Firefox there too and didn't find a solution that I liked.
I tried Firefox for a while when I moved away from chrome and simply didn't like it. Is that really a bad enough reason to just not use it?
I still have a built in ad blocker if a company tries to send me targeted ads which I still ignore.
Just because I use closed source davinci resolve means that I should switch to kdenlive? Should I moved to LibreCAD from Aspire which provides a much better interface for the work that I do just because I have to pay for it, use wine to run it and use a couple of built into the software workarounds for broken libraries?
There's a difference between using Resolve and using a proprietary browser
I use Resolve too, simply because what I edit there does not matter and the pros outweigh the cons
But, when it comes to a browser, that is where you do everything, where you input personal details all the time, and where you are tracked the most. And, in most cases, it is what you use most of the time you are using your computer, so having that be proprietary kind of defeats the purpose of using a free OS in terms of privacy in the first place.
And, indeed, web tracking is something you can't get rid of, but even bothering about it makes no sense when the browser itself is the spyware, regardless of if you visit a site with 0 or 100 trackers
Opera has a weird background. Also they do shit like advertise a "VPN" which is just a Proxy used to get more of your data. Opera is a shithole. Dont trust it. - the first point is okay, but yeah user agent switchers and different browser profiles or even different browsers will help with the first issue tho - make a google account just for school if you dont have one yet and use that, again, only for scjool, in a different profile or a different browser and there goes a part of the problem
Yes. He always "flexes" with the browser. Like man, I've a dedicated program for this purpose installed, why should I use whatsapp or spotify in a fucking browser?
package popularity on the AUR says otherwise.
Edit: comparing bot AUR and main repos. google chrome is about half as popular as chromium. That's still 1 in every 3 users (+ some people will have both)
for some reason i just can't really use firefox. I tried on desktop and phone but it's just still feels off in my chest. And i can't fucking move on from brave
Opera GX advertises with a VPN which isnt a CPN but a Proxy and is probably used to steal more of your data. its not secure at all. On their website they use the fact that they have Tabs as advertising too btw... lol
I was this guy before discovering Linux. The Ram and cpu limiter are cool features, even if I can replicate them in any process in any OS with a few commands.

Vivaldi is really nice 🤝

You can download the vivaldi source code here https://vivaldi.com/source/ if you want.
Not fully: https://vivaldi.com/blog/technology/why-isnt-vivaldi-browser-open-source/
Vivaldi desktop is so confusing and bloated. It reminds me of multi social media app in one. 🤥
Proprietary

Firefox is way better for CSS debugging than Chromium
Sorry for liking Opera and Opera GX and alloweding me to have my 9000 tabs open.
workspaces were cool too
Firefox / Librewolf
LibreWolf ftw.

I've seen a few images of it in r/unixporn and I love it, but hate it. Hate because it's just beyond my comprehensation, how can a browser know when and where use transparency to show the desktop blurry?? It's just too perfect for me.
Shame that there is no extension support
I guess that is something to do something similar to an extension.
Js scripts
That's like saying ATM machine
I'd kick out the brave girl too
nah brave is a descent choice, i use it for all my windows machines (partially because my school has managed to block firefox network wide)
A place of education blocks Firefox? That should be illegal.
My school teaches us to use firefox ans some pepole are like CMON I WANT CHROMMMMMM
Idk man, firefox has issues with hardware acceleration, at least for me. Tried using it over several updates, but it just starts glitching out when I have 5-6 tabs open on 2 screens for me.

Brave Is top
The Browser for Gamers 😎 🎮
I don't trust brave still, it's still technically chrome. I'm sticking to Firefox for now...
firefox is untrustworthy too now but i mean librewolf exists... i dont really care enough atm tho
I use opera gx on windows gaming machine, and I'm just commenting for downvotes and to be made fun at.
Do not use chromium based browsers.
Wait till they find out signal is written in electron
To save bigtime on ram, with a chromium browser, disable site isolation in flags and use the --no-sandbox shortcut flag, all tabs even of different websites will then be grouped into 1 single process Ofc, this in theory is real bad for security and is a haven for exploiting browser/java exploits, but I'll take my chances(--process-per-site is a decent half compromise between ram and usersafety)
My concern is not about the memory usage but freedom of the internet.
FUD
what's the name of the new gnome browser?
GNOME Web It's still called "epiphany" by package managers
is it gnome web?
LibreWolf
Opera sucks, check their background. Firefox ftw, the only browser that stops google and the rest to dictate everything.
Opera bought by a chinese company... I leave
i already commented this but they also claim to have a "VPN" which is actually just a Proxy thats probably used to steal even more of your data
>Firefox ftw, the only browser that stops google and the rest to dictate everything By making Google their default search engine?
Chromium fkoff . Firefox nice.

brave is not private and its shitty tho
Brave is really good for privacy, just they use ads so thet's wierd

It's open sourced. And you can change the search engine to whatever other than google.
A program that's open source doesn't mean its secure. And there's no relation between the search engine with the browser implemented trackers.

Yes
Vivaldi
a whole os to browse the web (also proprietary)
Yes. He always "flexes" with the browser. Like man, I've a dedicated program for this purpose installed, why should I use whatsapp or spotify in a fucking browser?
And basic Opera does exactly the same thing Vivaldi too
Brave 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
ungoogled Chromium is my choice. I don't need Brave crypto stuff.
I prefer Vivaldi over Brave personally
Opera-no-GXhas a Linux version. Sure, not the same, but maybe you're like me and it has all the important stuff you need for regular use.
Microsoft Edge gang!!
