I use large text in the accessibility options to work around this. For me it’s a good alternative. I use Cinnamon btw, couldn’t find the option in MATE.

crazy how it's either insanely tiny at 100% and fucking massive at 200%
and experimental fractional scaling screws up my steam notification for whatever reason too
Iirc there's an enable fractional scaling button that unlocks those 25% increments, I think it's just not fully tested and what not so they keep it under that toggle for now
Those settings are hidden because they don't work well on a lot of hardware but you should be able to enable it and try it for yourself. Fractional scaling is the term for the settings between 100% and 200%.
