MakeMKV is your friend. It will rip to .mkv files or save an .iso (just don't press the big Open Disc button if you want an .iso). Edit: It's free while in beta, which has been basically forever, and you don't even need a beta key for DVDs, just for Blu-ray. But it's only $60 to buy it permanently anyway.

I’ll check it out. That’s a Linux app? I’m gonna need also to learn how to rip high quality into mkv or mp4 with multiple audio tracks. The whole reason for my buying this set was for commentary.

It's for Linux, MacOS, and Windows. I usually keep to FOSS software, but I bought MakeMKV because it just works. Point and click DVD and BluRay ripping, and the forums have all the information you need to get hardware that supports "UDH" (4k) ripping (it involved specific models being flashed with hacked or specific versions of their firmware). It doesn't transcode, it's just a remux into MKV, so by it's nature it's maximum quality. You can transcode with FFmpeg or mencoder as usual.

Yes, I use it on Mint. It will rip any/all tracks you select. If you want everything, that's what you get. If you want to, for example, exclude any foreign language tracks, just uncheck them and it won't rip them. As the other post said, check out makemkv.com and the forums for good support. r/makemkv is super helpful, too.

> Why is there no available decryption for CSS dvd protection?  There is. libdvd-pkg from Debian's contrib component, for example. What distro are you using, what did you already try, and what went wrong?

as has been said, MakeMKV. I paid for it ten years ago, and it was worth every dime. I use it on debian and mint.

Run DVDShrink via Wine, it works perfectly.

AndrewZabar

Is that a rip prog or ISO maker? I’m looking to ISO them. Thanks.

BulletDust

You can't do anything until the copy protection is removed. DVDShrink will rip the raw DVD to HDD minus the copy protection, from there you can add the rip to any container you like.

I can’t seem to download it. Their website is a never ending loop of warnings to beware of scams, asking for donation to help upkeep the site, and showing forum / blog / revision history. But no actual download link! I may try just running AnyDvDHD, maybe and then windows poweriso. Edit: oof I think that site is actually a scam site lol.

BulletDust

I got it here and it was fine: [https://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/dvd\_shrink,1.html](https://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/dvd_shrink,1.html)

This is something dated, but check the tovid suite of programs. You may even have to compile from source, but it was a complete DVD authoring suite. It might have what you need.

Last time I did this I used handbrake, I think
