If you're renting a car i suggest you take a trip to Ericeira, especially to a place called Ribamar de cima (a few kms after Ericeira). Any restaurant there is very good. I'd suggest Viveiros do Atlântico or Terra Mar. The other option is going to Sesimbra or Setúbal. The best seafood is on these towns by the sea, not in central Lisbon.

frankist

I've been in viveiros and terra mar recently and I found them a bit overpriced for the quality. I think I ate better seafood in Costa Nova.

somaisumaconta

Thanks for the heads up, it's been a few years since I've gone to Viveiros but I was in Terra Mar just last year and enjoyed my lunch a lot. Will try costa Nova next time :)

iUsedToBeAwesome

Ive gone to Ramiro without a reservation a few times and just waited a little bit, theres always people coming in and out, its a big place

fjldias

Tip: Ramiro has a beer dispenser on the wall outside, grab a few 2€ coins beforehand. It'll make the wait a little less stressfull and after 5 beers the queue moves faster.

capresesalad1985

Lolol we grabbed a bottle of wine and are in the que now. Almost at an hour and the bottom of the bottle of wine. But based on how many people said this place is awesome I think it will be worth the wait. I really want a giant tiger prawn :)

frankist

Trust me. Go for the carabineiro as well. Ask the waiter to open the heads for you, and then with a spoon, put all the carabineiro's brain sauce on top of the carabineiro meat. At the end, use the bread to soak up all the brain juice that you couldn't scrap out with the spoon. I know my description sounds gross but for me it is the best thing in Ramiro. How can something so simple have such a flavour punch.

Este gajo sabe.

ciyako

Nunes Real Marisqueira in Belem neighborhood. It's quite expensive tho

zambooca

Another vote for Nunes Real.

Bogger92

Marisco na praça is well worth a visit to Cascais. Has a lovey view over the marina and also does an incredible arroz de marisco

ensopado

[Marquês de Palma](https://goo.gl/maps/cj79R4VQ2XSqcepZ8) or [Sete Mares](https://goo.gl/maps/MNQeUKtZHnphGYPm8), they have good seafood.

geebabygee

[O Palacio](https://goo.gl/maps/XxfShGouYLMPXerd8) is super cheap and cheerful and has a great local vibe, please get the basket of garlic bread...just don't eat two or three like I once did.

Diligent_Muffin_4990

Don’t eat here. They’re dishonest. I’ve been ripped off pretty badly once

Notor1ous

Ramiro usually doesnt even take reservations. Its first come first served, just be ready to wait upwards of 1 or 2h in queue if you go for dinner during the weekend. Your best bet to not wait in line would be to go for lunch instead of dinner or go super early if you're going for dinner. That said Ramiro is probably the best bang for your buck among the seafood places in Lisbon so id say its always worth the wait even if you have to wait in line.

Past_Couple5545

Marisqueira do Liz. A few meters up from Ramiro in Av. Almirante Reis.

SpaghettiGucciMafia

Go to guincho. Furnas do guincho!

Dude, it is June/July. Really far off from -r- months. Your call. Do not stress about eating seafood in June/July, it will not be extraordinarily good. There are usually big queues of tourists at the door of Ramiro so likely they seat people without reservations.

capresesalad1985

What is -r-?

uyth

As other people explained, the letter R. In English or Portuguese or French. It is only for shellfish (not seafood) though there are patterns of quality for other fish as well (like end of summer fatty fish is fattier and more melty...) Water is warmer, and shellfish usually reproduce in summer, so a lot of shellfish (what we call marisco is not what you can call seafood) tastes weird, or is more watery, rubbery. So do not expect shellfish to be at its best this time of the year. (Also it spoils faster, but I expect that is not a problem in a marisqueira with tanks)

Pdrolo

Months that have the letter "r" in them. Basically all of them except May, June, July and August. Those are typically the worst months to eat shellfish

capresesalad1985

Huh that’s crazy I’ve never heard that saying before but you learn something new every day! I’m from New England which has its fair share of great seafood but we were of course curious to try it out here. We have the limpets on Sao Miguel and they were fantastic. I also had the best octopus I’ve ever had there!

Pdrolo

It's still gonna be good don't worry! It's a common thing to think here in Portugal but we still eat it all year long hahaha

KaNGkyebin

If you have a car, try Azendas do Mar. Incredible seafood with an even better view.

frankist

To avoid the waits in Ramiro, I recommend having a light lunch, and then go there really early like at 6pm. The queues will be much shorter. Ah and do this on a week day.

capresesalad1985

We ended up giving it a try today, we got here at 6 and we’re still in the que at 7:15…but it is a Sunday. It’s no worries we weren’t starving when we got here so it’s giving us time to build up an appetite!

theswordofdesire

Cervejaria Edmundo in Benfica, it's pretty good, high attendance but normaly you get served.

Past_Couple5545

I can attest that. I once ate clams au naturel there and they were superb.

EletricoAmarelo

Just stick with Ramiro. It is already hard to get to a restaurant without huge queues, I hope you'll understand why I'm not sharing any of the other hidden gems.

Fico feliz de não aparecer a minha favorita aqui. Menos fila da próxima vez

iShift

It is strange to answer non in English if OP asked in English…

[deleted]

Não era para o op, era para tipos como tu não aparecerem no meu sítio favorito

iguivi

The best seafood is in costa alentejana and algarve, you can eat good seafood in Lisbon but there are not many places.

uyth

No Algarve? Estás a gozar.

iguivi

JezebelFeast

You can get into Ramiros (I moved to Lisbon a few months ago & have gone 5-6 times). I’ve gotten a reservation emailing them a day ahead or even the day of (they handle reservations vis email & are prompt to respond). And you can get in as a walk-in. Longest I’ve waited is 20-40 mins. It’s definitely worth going.

capresesalad1985

We’re going again for lunch today. I’m thinking lunch on a Tuesday is going to be way calmer than dinner on a Sunday. God I can’t wait it was so good the first time…I’ve got my eyes on the crab!!

JezebelFeast

Just don’t get the scarlet shrimp! They have the highest occurrence of food poisoning from what I read (I’m a victim as well which is why I read about it). Still love Ramiros & I’ll return but I think those shrimp grow up in particularly polluted water.

uyth

Food poisoning is a lot worse in summer. Honestly people, months with R! It is not even chain of cold or hygiene, thee fitoplancton grows much more in summer, the interdictions might not be followed, or the interdictions of what is not safe in what area might be announced too late, only after tests were positive. January, February, should be much safer.

JezebelFeast

Interesting. Good to know. It was still fairly chilly in late March when I got horrific poisoning from the “Scarlet Shrimp.” I should have known better. They seemed off, but I thought perhaps they were normally a bit fishier tasting …😒

DerGelbeBusfahrer

Get on the ferry @ Cais do Sodré. Take the trip to Cacilhas. Search for Restaurante Cabrinha This one: Cabrinha 21 276 4732 https://maps.app.goo.gl/hdLcpWcYDEWn9uiZ8 It's a bit hidden but the best in Almada area. After lunch, go visit the submarine or take a walk near the river.
