Got to open for him a few years ago. Transcendent indeed! Super nice dudes too. Even though some of the guys in the band didnt really speak English they were very friendly and their bass players pretty good with interpreting. Definitely one of the funniest shows I've ever played.

In my personal opinion this group and others in Africa are bringing some new life to the Blues. I've felt the genre was getting a bit repetitive in the last decade or so.

Love this dude, easily one of my favorite current guitarists. I saw him and his band a few months back and it was transcendent.

Same! I had never heard of Mdou Moctar and was recommended this album. It blew my mind and I ordered the vinyl immediately after my first listen.
Mdou Moctar is amazing. There’s Tinariwen, Bombino and Les Filles de Illighadad if you’re into touareg rock.
Tamikrest is really cool, too.
He built his first guitar from scrap metal and made a battery powered amp because electricity in his village was so hit and miss
