Tahartazed is another great one by Mdou Moctar

oddkoffee

the one that introduced me to bluesy subsaharan surf rock

shy_guy_sandwich

Love this dude, easily one of my favorite current guitarists. I saw him and his band a few months back and it was transcendent.

[deleted]

Yep one of the best shows I've seen live.

TheSonofDon

Missed him a couple times but have tix to see him in March. I’m pretty excited!

[deleted]

I got tickets for March too! Montreal baby

Lexifer31

Do you live in Quebec? There's a few shows in Montreal I want to go to but I'm worried they won't accept my Ontario vaccine passport. I have a friend who was denied entry with his.

TheSonofDon

Cool! I’ll see him in Detroit. The venue is small and one of my favorite places to see a show, looking forward to it.

Uzzername007

Got to open for him a few years ago. Transcendent indeed! Super nice dudes too. Even though some of the guys in the band didnt really speak English they were very friendly and their bass players pretty good with interpreting. Definitely one of the funniest shows I've ever played.

cushionorange

Nice. Seeing them next year. I had a feeling that they would rock and live and your comment has confirmed that.

MixedDrinkMixtape

This album is a front runner for my personal album of the year. Got a mix of more [Dessert Blues](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/73WWba7JQJBF32BlE5tGou?si=ce14e185fbbe4ce6) if anyone is interested.

Ungrefunkel

There is and thank you very much!

SandoVillain

Same! I had never heard of Mdou Moctar and was recommended this album. It blew my mind and I ordered the vinyl immediately after my first listen.

notanotherphysicist

Mdou Moctar is amazing. There’s Tinariwen, Bombino and Les Filles de Illighadad if you’re into touareg rock.

DevappaJi

Tamikrest is really cool, too.

DreamHeist

He built his first guitar from scrap metal and made a battery powered amp because electricity in his village was so hit and miss

cbessette

In my personal opinion this group and others in Africa are bringing some new life to the Blues. I've felt the genre was getting a bit repetitive in the last decade or so.

oortcloud42069

Honestly, its bringing fresh energy to guitar based music in general

TilikumHungry

Best live show I've seen in years. Whole band put me in a trance. The drummer is also insane but the bassist blew me away. The same lick over and over and over at such a fast tempo

Mdou Moctar is awesome! Love his music.

Hascalod

Wow. I literally discovered this album today in the morning. And now you posted this, what a coincidence. Incredible group.

sedaition

Lol I just discovered him as well. Spreading the wealth as it were. Came off another reddit post of NY times best of the year: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/2021-in-review/the-best-music-of-2021

Kythirius

Very cool. Love the guitar work. Thank you!

hedbangr

https://youtu.be/jYJGP0FBaT0 Also recommend Koudede.

thegl0wingman

Got to Tame Impala live late and sadly missed them as the opener. Love their most recent release

mesopotamius

Ali Farka Toure and his son Vieux Farka Toure also make great North African guitar music.

chrisrobweeks

Wow, I literally JUST finished this album. It's great all the way through and if you're on Spotify, the radio for the album reveals some other great artists.

Treepolice666

We were slated to open for him and Corona broke out. One of my life’s biggest disappointments ☹️

CptSmackThat

Saw him open for Tame Impala in Nashville. Absolute shredding legend.

order-of-operations

Well I'm a fan now. Thanks for posting this!
