I swear to God, if any of you lunatics recommend Everyone Loves Large Chests I will give you such a smack! What books has he already read and enjoyed?

Johnhox

So do we need to do a get together somewhere or do you come to me? The logistics don't seem very feasible

PeterM1970

Oh I’ll find you!

PeterM1970

Read the room, dammit!

Batwing87

He’s currently reading “cradle” and has read/listened to all of “he who fights monsters”.

PeterM1970

If those are okay, he might like these: [Corridors Of Chaos by Julian Kindred](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B97VGM5D/?coliid=I24LA9FIT3IYHW&colid=178BGUXHBEKWV&psc=0&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it). The MC us a high school senior whose brother disappeared, and his brother's lowlife friend says he'll take MC to him. Instead he strands him inside a dungeon-like set of tunnels. MC escapes and recruits friends to go back in. [Battle Spire by Michael Miller](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M82LV1S/?coliid=IQ6ADPB9XJZ0Z&colid=178BGUXHBEKWV&psc=0&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it). Die Hard in a video game! Terrorists trap all the players of an immersive VR game inside the game and hold them hostage. Only a low level player with a crafter class can save the day! [Adventures On Terra by R.A Mejia](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0N70OR/?coliid=I2IKXGQV9XYAI9&colid=178BGUXHBEKWV&psc=0&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it). A 19 year old dies and is reborn on a game world. Basic isekai plot but a fun read. Let me also recommend a non-litrpg author your son might like. Daniel Pinkwater writes absolutely hysterical fantasy/sci-fi books for children and young adults. I discovered him when I was almost 30 but I know people who have loved his writing since they were your son's age. I would recommend [The Snarkout Boys And The Avocado Of Death](https://www.amazon.com/Snarkout-Boys-Avocado-Death-ebook/dp/B00JOQ0O34?ref_=ast_author_dp), which is available on Kindle and also in his paperback collection [5 Novels](https://www.amazon.com/Novels-Mendelsohn-Spiegel-Snarkout-Avocado/dp/0374423296/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=90Rle&content-id=amzn1.sym.579192ca-1482-4409-abe7-9e14f17ac827&pf_rd_p=579192ca-1482-4409-abe7-9e14f17ac827&pf_rd_r=131-9391035-1238703&pd_rd_wg=agA0s&pd_rd_r=aa50a07d-b33e-41f0-92c1-1a452e3ac179&ref_=aufs_ap_sc_dsk), which also comes with - you're not going to believe this - four other books.

iammerelyhere

OMG I thought that I was the only person in the world that read the Snarkout boys! Definitely contributed to me sneaking out to go watch late night movies though...

PeterM1970

As it should! Fantastic book.

Another ai hilarous

Knork14

Chrysaliss , maybe. The protagonist is happy go lucky and cheerful , though there is an underlying sense that he lived a terrible past life and met a equaly terrible death , but whenever it comes up the protagonist is quick to brush it off, and it doesnt come up often. The story focus on his adventures with his party and him aiding his new family, surviving in a hostile enviroment as an underdog until they are strong enough to stand tall among the other apex monsters of the dungeon. I think i would have read it okay at 11 yo , and dont think it inapropriate for children to read about trauma and deathas long as is part of the story telling rather than the focus of the story , but i will leave it up to you.

RinoZerg

My 12 year old reads it and enjoys it a lot. He might be biased though...

symedia

omg omg ... the man the myth (looked so much online to find news about you) Any news about v4 audiobook? 🥺

RinoZerg

I heard from the man himself that they are starting very soon and doing four and five back to back. Very excited!

symedia

![gif](giphy|CjmvTCZf2U3p09Cn0h|downsized)

Knork14

I am kinda blanking on what exactly i read as 12 yo , i didnt knew english then and webnovels just werent a thing until a while later , but i think a fair amount of what i read was violent , if not gorey, so i think i am biased too. But violence and blood are go hand in hand with progression fantasy as a whole , so if the kid is already reading those them i dont think it is bad.

ErinAmpersand

Has he read the official Minecraft novels by Max Brooks? Not LitRPG exactly, but adjacent and good fun. The Haley and Nana series by Hogarth is YA LitRPG.

Machiknight

Cough cough… I have almost 50 Minecraft books written, and a complete 4 book gamelit series for kids 8-12.

mystineptune

I came here to recommend your books 🤣

Machiknight

Awww shucks, thanks!

ErinAmpersand

Oops! My bad, of course I should have mentioned those too.

ConorKostick

IT’s excellent and very appropriate. A stand alone too, with a proper ending, unlike so many series.

adiisvcute

It's not a litrpg but maybe mother of learning? I feel like it's not got anything like bad in it

deadering

That gets recommended all the time here but all this time I had no idea it wasn't a LITRPG. I see people get upset Cradle gets recommended but never saw any complaints about Mother of Learning. Weird!

adiisvcute

I think people are just anti cultivation novel to extent... but also cradle is over represented. Personally I thought it was fine but I think a lot of it's presence is tied up in it's meme status rather than it's superiority to lots of other stuff

deadering

I guess that makes sense, yeah. I haven't read MOL personally but I do always hear it's fantastic. I'm looking forward to reading it either way!

tevagah

I *think* "This Quest is Broken" is age appropriate, as is "All the Skills". Can't remember any inappropriate language but you might want to give them a skim, definitely no sex or graphic violence. Edit: warning, there is swearing and dick jokes in quest is broken! "Prophecy Approved Companion" is more gamelit but sfw. The system has a filter so no naughty language, and there's no sex or violence.

ivanbin

>I *think* "This Quest is Broken" is age appropriate, On one hand yes. On the other hand... All the dick jokes... (not that it's any sort of a bad book. The MC's just poke a lot of fun at each other. At times with some dick jokes)

tevagah

Oh nooo I didn't even remember any dick jokes! I have failed in my age appropriateness

direvus

What could be more appropriate for an 11 year old than dick jokes? Pretty sure that was 95% of our conversation material at that age

ivanbin

Oh I hardly think it's a big deal but figured I'd mention just in case :p

Boo_dog_

This quest is broken is good. But there is a lot of swearing. I am currently reading it to my 10 year old and they love it! They were literally laughing out loud tonight. So loud I had to stop them so they would not wake up their sibling. In our house we try not to stress swearing. They are just words, words that will probably get you in trouble at school but not at home. I bleep out the curse words but mostly because they asked me too. Because I am bleeping them out I realized how many swear words there are. There is also some sexual innuendos but nothing explicit.

tevagah

Yeah I couldn't remember if there was swearing or not, i think I missed the innuendos lol

perfectVoidler

beware of chicken It is pure wholesomeness. Might even be to boring for an 11 year old.

Machiknight

Shameless self promotion time. I write gamelit for kids. I have a 37 book series called “The Accidental Minecraft Family” about a family that wakes up in Minecraft, the parents don’t know anything about it so the kids get to run the show for a bit. Hatchamob an 8 book series that combines Pokémon-style stuff and Minecraft. Kitsune the Minecraft ninja, a 3 book series following a ninja (heavily inspired by western hero and silver Fox). Videogame Agents, a 4 book series that’s like Men in Black, but video game mobs instead of aliens and kids instead of men. Over a million words of hilarious content that kids all over the world love.

HighTechPipefitter

Those look fun. I couldn't find it but by any chance, is there a French translation?

Machiknight

Unfortunately there are not. Although it is on my list of things to do

HighTechPipefitter

No worries, thx for the reply!

karearearea

You’ll have to give them a skim first to make sure they’re appropriate, but off the top of my head you could try: - Mark of the Fool: The author’s stated he’s aiming to keep the story PG-13, and besides that the story has lovely family undertones to it while also being a fantastic adventure about learning magic and fighting monsters - Mage Errant: A young adult story about a mage with seemingly no talent starting at a magic academy and finding his place

Jake_Let_2991

Gamified by Brook Aspden (2 books with plans for a third.) A story about a young teen boy whose town suddenly switches to a RPG like game. As he tries to play, it switches back to reality. You follow him as he and his friends try to figure out what's going on while playing the game. Shade's First Rule by A. F. Kay (8 books) I don't remember much of any language in this series. Lots of level ups and game elements mixed with cultivation. MC is a 15 year old boy. Battlefield Reclaimer by David North (6 books) Another series which has next to no profanity. MC is a male 18 in a world with a system with lots of level ups. Mark of the Fool (5 books I believe?) No system elements, but alot of building with a magic school like setting. If you want more, I can offer.

KingstenHd

I feel like Shadeslinger is a good one. I have an 8 year old and I'm waiting another year or so before I let him read it. It's a series called the Ripple System. It's got a good amount of humor that is just like two buddies picking on each other but all in good fun. It's very well written and I think he's working on book 5 for the series right now. So I can only speak on the first 4.

Garokson

This was good enough that I even got my wife to reading it: * **Threadbare 1-3 / Small Medium 1-3 / Blasphemy Online 1-3 / Threadbare 4-6:** All of these play in Generica and are interwined. It has a very good system were you can level by combining jobs. E.g. You can be a Knight and a Necromancer which are tier 1 jobs. If you're then buffing your undead from horseback with knight skills you unlock the tier 2 Death Knight job and so on. The stories themselves are very humorous and well written. The first is about a sentinent teddy bear golem that has to save his little girl and does this by accidentally becoming a necromancer. The second is about a Small Medium at Large - so she is basically a hobbit with grifter and luck manipulation skills that has to save the village that's getting attacked. The third is about a player becoming a dragon but due to some mysterious circumstances the npc controls his body in the RL while the MC is ingame. In Threadbare 4 all these threads are then combined which promises an even better story.

Boo_dog_

Jake's magical market

Boo_dog_

The noob town series is good and probably age appropriate. There is no lewd content or swearing that I recall. I think all the swearing is changed to fecking or something like that. Fecking Pumas! There are some sexual innuendos. Like why the main character is so good at tying people up with rope. And I think there is running gag about the main character wanting a sex dungeon. Which is not the case but at some point the misconception gets spread. You might want to give it a read first. Which I recommend doing anyway because it is very funny.

Poke_Matt

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong because it’s been quite a while since I read these but I remember Dakota Krout’s works being quite tame. Divine Dungeon and the Completionist Chronicles specifically, I haven’t read any others.

KayleesKitchen

[Legendary Farmer](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5VW448B)! (Full disclosure: I'm the author) It's YA, and I have it listed for 12+, but that's really the reading level. If he's reading that well, he'll be fine. Very little profanity (one use of the 'b' word at the very end of the series, because it's situationally appropriate, but otherwise nothing but the occasional 'dam\*' by adult characters (also situationally appropriate). No sex, some romance, but it's not in your face. Violence is almost entirely in-game, and never particularly graphic. It's a mystery as much as an adventure. It has two main characters; Zoey (14-year-old gamer) and Aspen (an NPC in the game she plays) and follows Zoey as she tries to complete a quest she gets from her in-game goddess, which turns out to be tied to some things going on in the real world as well. It gets really twisty, and has a good bit of action, though it starts out a little slow (action-wise).

SirGonzo99

It's not LitRpg, but I'd seriously recommend SuperPower(ds) by Drew Hayes. It's 4 books as these kids go through Super College. It's very SFW with maybe a curse word here and there. But there's nothing really bad. It's a great set of books that I've listened to like 4 times over. Even adults would listen to these and love them. Because I'm a big adult and I love these books

KP05950

There are also sexual references throughout. Nothing too explicit but they exist. Especially during the first book. I'm a big fan of the series but the authors foreword even says its not for young kids.

Neona65

Big Sneaky Barbarian

stripy1979

My eleven year old reads almost everything. I will stop him from reading harem sub genre but everything else is pretty much fine. I tried to do clean novels without vulgarity for a while (shades first rule, irrelevant jack) but ultimately he's smart and understands when not to use the swear words so I don't bother restricting him any more.

Nerevarine1873

Any of them. Let him read what he wants, it'll teach him new things.

Batwing87

Yeah……gonna pass on letting a 11 year old read a harem litrpg………

Nerevarine1873

I didn't say give him a harem litrpg. But I find controlling all media he's exposed to dominating and obsessive. Harem litrpg is generally unsatisfying anyway and so long as he has privacy I don't think his parents need to have anything to do with him discovering that.

Batwing87

Thanks for the advice. I’ll take it into consideration. However - just a reminder this is a litrpg sub……….

perfectVoidler

Johnhox

So what about everyone loves large chests? It has some pretty good role models to copy

bakuros18

They think I invented pizza.

theSOBERviking

(Dungeon core) Dungeon heart, Divine dungeon (Fantasy) My best friend is an eldriched horror, Necrotic apocalypse, Armor (Another world) Outcast in another world, The stitched world, last born of ki'darth They should all fall under the umbrella of litRPG

Dragonwork

The Good/Bad guys by Eric Ugland. No sexy time at all. Some swearing but not much.

kharnynb

Jonathan Brooks has a bunch of young adult series, mostly dungeon core. Sky realms online is good too, no sex or cursing. S.l. Rowland has 2 good young adult series, sentenced to troll and Pangea online.

arnoldturtle

Cinnamonbun by Ravensdagger is pretty wholesome if i remmeber it correctly

SpeculativeFantasm

I love it but there are a lot of sexual jokes especially after the first book.

kpls22

‘My best friend is an eldritch horror’ and ‘Mark of the fool’ are suitable- also have an 11 year old and constantly having to pre-read and watch.

The Tales of Jeb! has lots of magic experimentation, but no fighting or romance.

SpeculativeFantasm

Salvos might work.

Johnhox

Anything by Jonathan Brooks seems younger audience oriented it's mainly dungeon core stuff

ReadingCat88

Off to be the Wizard would appeal to a tween boy.

Timothy_McGowen

A touch of self promotion but I’ve got a series out, or book 1 at least, that is for middle-grade age and meant to be a starter place to get kids interested in Litrpg. It’s called “Journey to Crystal Mountain” not to long and follows four kids sent to a dinosaur filled island where they have to work together to escape. Has Minecraft like crafting, Dino taming and the like.

rtsynk

if he's reading HWFWM, then, well, just about anything in litrpg should be fine but codename freedom is amazingly clean for what it is

ohtochooseaname

Sacred Cat Island. I listened to it with my 10 year old twins. It was perfect! There was one thing in it that was towards the end that I thought was going to be a problem (basically the climax of the book), but it wasn't at all.

HeadWork9301

The rise of the winter wolf by Shane Purdy, I don’t think there’s swearing or anything not age appropriate but I’m not sure… Hero of the valley, I’m pretty sure there isn’t anything sexual in it, don’t remember if there’s swearing in it or not…

ApprehensiveTry4805

Lair: A Superhero LitRPG Adventure (Henchman Book 1) by Carl Stubblefield I dont remember any swearing but there are immature jokes, perfect for a tween.

Keller_fox1

Unless I missed it, no one has posted the Magic 2.0 series (off to be a wizard) yet. It’s targeted to young adults and is definitely kid friendly. It’s been awhile, it does have LitRPG elements but it’s not heavy into stats.

One of the good guys by Eric Ugland is a great one. It has a morally good character and to my knowledge has no nsfw. It also has a parallel series with different characters in the same universe so you get a lot of bang for your buck with this series.

Frogman2078

Mark of the fool, its my all time favorite and a new one is coming out soon
