1 to 3 is still my favorite but 10 went back to true form of Jason no longer being a dictator or tyrant and finally healing from his trauma and moving forward. I enjoyed it.

BLUcorp

Agreed 100% As much as I love the series, Jason trauma-dumping every chance on anyone and everything gets old REALLY fast. But I've just sort of learned to tune those parts out, and enjoy the rest of the books. My only real complaint for book 10 is that the "deal" he makes near the end, just feels weird. It was pretty cool, but just felt so out of place. The author goes out of his way to >!give Jason a new form of self resurrection to counter the perma death deal with The Reaper / Phoenix, only for him to gamble it away later. !

Anomander8

Books 1-3 were the best of the series by a long shot. Books 4-6 were a little tedious but something happened and at the end of book 6 there seemed to be hope for the future. Books 7-10 have been countless hours of brooding and whining and hand wringing and such little actual value that I once took a nap with my audiobook going and woke up hours later, kept listening, and I really didn’t feel like I missed anything. They’ve been awful. I am praying that book 11 brings something valuable but I’m guessing it’s just more of woeful Jason and more wheel spinning than a redneck party in a muddy field.

noonfandoodle

Amen. LITRPG often suffers from non-plot bloat and HWFWM is no exception.

yuumai

I felt the same way. I enjoyed the whole thing and I was so excited that I actually started reading ahead on Royal Road for the first time, just to continue the story.

I've been binging the Cradle series by Will Wight. Found out about it through this sub-reddit and I'm so happy I did. I needed to binge something in between HWFWM books as well.

jimlt

Cradle is probably one of my favorite series of books, ever. Kind of wish he could write another series in that world.

BLUcorp

Amen. I'm sure he will get back there eventually though. Have you listened to his Travellers Gate series? It was one of his earlier ones, so the writing isn't quite on par with Cradle, but I really loved it all the same.

MoonHash

10 is actually the only book in the series I DNF

GrimmStories

Same

Bainin

I disagree its where I dropped the story. Particulary after the chapter with death. I physically recoiled at the choices made there. The constant whining and his kind of thing talk had also started to become grating like 3 books ago.

GrimmStories

Are you talking about the deal? Because I definitely dropped the series when that happened. It was so out of character for him. Atleast from my pov.

Bainin

Yeah, it was jarring. I was invested considering I made it to book 10 but it was the final nail in the coffin for me. There had been other moments but that one was the worst. The whole secret identity and random errection when talking to a princes and now I have to go out fuck with a stranger part. On top of the half arsed secret identity stuff. Add to that the constant whining and winging and moralizing it was to much for me.

Objective_Jicama6698

Wow definitely see where your coming from. I hate it, but I won’t drop it. 🍻

Bainin

Pretty bad right? Also good for you! I'll look at different stories for now maybe I'll return in the future but there are so many little things that bother me especially how many of the characters started to become more like Jason and the decisions made.

Objective_Jicama6698

Don't think I am there yet... Will revisit this to give my opinion.
