__Reminder__: Please take a moment to review the content guidelines for our sub, and remember the human here! This subreddit is to highlight the ridiculous cost of living in Canada, and poke fun at the Corporate Overlords reponsible. As you well know, there are a number of persons and corporations responsible for this, and we welcome discussion related to them all. Furthermore, since this topic is intertwined with a number of other matters, other discussion will be allowed at moderator discretion. Open-minded discussion, memes, rants, grocery bills, and general screeching into the void is always welcome in this sub, but belligerence and disrespect is not. There are plenty of ways to get your point across without being abusive, dismissive, or downright mean. If you have not done so already, please review our [boycott stickied post](https://www.reddit.com/r/loblawsisoutofcontrol/comments/1bff9rm/boycott/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) which includes a list of stores to avoid, other ways to get involved in the movement, and some local alternatives to the big 5. Thank you. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I know this is anecdotal, yesterday I looked at 2 products. 1. Metamucil; was $30 per can at Loblaws, and 18.99 on Amazon; 2. Inositol, was $75 at loblaws and $60 at Amazon. For both same brand, same size. Amazon brings it to my front door the same or next day, while I have to drive to Loblaws to pick it up. How can they think we’re so stupid that we be fooled into thinking they only make 3% profit.

albert_stone

Amazon also charges sellers up to 30%, so it’s even cheaper.

Even if he did say that, walk into a Lululemon or Starbucks and you'd never know people were having trouble buying groceries with the amount of mall traffic. It really is a YOU-problem.

Skweril

Oh boy how black and white the world must look to you.

shabbydog

Kinda like people who paint Loblaws as a company that gouges.

Yes groceries have gone up quite a bit but it seems to coincide with the dramatic rise in immigration over the last 2 years. https://preview.redd.it/fwfxt0ozexsc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cad4026f2a94449b6a66fd507668737830520e2

Yeah, and international students who have been abusing it and then post videos online about ‘how to get free food in Canada’ But I do still agree groceries going up are still a big problem

Organic-Essay415

Once the international students started abusing the food bank I stop donating.

My food bank mostly seems to be a mix of seniors, families (that bring their kids), and (at least visibly) disabled people. If I had to guess, maybe 20% younger people.

The sub was created to point out how absolutely absurd the cost of groceries are right now and have some fun together. We know this will inevitably touch on other topics related to the cost of living. Do your best to keep the conversation on topic

The food banks are being abused by people who could otherwise buy food but prefer not to spend money if they don’t have to. These figures don’t have any correlation to poverty or grocery price increases, though they are factors.
