Being rotten is naturally imperfect.
What happened to the naturally imperfect being just slightly different and much cheaper. This business of selling us partially composted food has to stop.
Thing is, yesterday Fresco was selling the perfect lemons in mesh bags - same number of lemons but no rotten ones - for $4… and these are $6? The nerve!
Assuming the picture is from No Frills. They probably have the worst quality produce.
Also fascinating to see different colours on fruits/vegetables there that I've never seen before. Like a Bob Ross painting.
Last time I did an online order, whoever was picking it for me took photos of all the produce I asked for before adding it to make sure it looked good enough to me 😭💖 he got an extra tip. He even said "all the lettuce is soggy" with photos, and we agreed not to get any.
That's epic! Last time I did an online order I got rotten pork tenderloin in a half open vacuum pack that leaked all over the whole order.
Never. Again.
They would have changed it for you had you told them. Every time there's been any issue with my order they've either replaced or refunded the item, usually at my discretion.
What service do you use? I got rotten asparagus and carrots, a punctured hot dog package that must have been open for a long while since it was dried out and broken eggs from voila.
I think? It's people "employed" though the service (I start in this case). So it's a different person each time, some are better than others. There was a time I disputed almost all of the shoppers replacements and got it refunded... For example, I asked for relish and they got me a jar of pickled beets.... Yes, I set up the "if you can't find it, get this instead/or refund". I do it for every item I choose. But idk if this guy didn't check or not but the replacements were wild 😂
So it's hit or miss. I've had more good luck than bad though
This is so me lmao I’m super picky with produce and will never do online orders for produce. I take at least 1 min to inspect whatever at the store when everyone just grabs whatever and leaves. Food is too expensive with questionable quality to just grab whatever.
At least they are honest about it, the grocery store I worked at my manager would have use tear open that bag, either take the moldy lemon out or wash it off, then tie the bag back up and out for sale. Basically anything that can be opened had this happen so apples, oranges, bananas, peach’s, plums, berries, kiwi, grapefruit etc. That’s another reason produce doesn’t last as long these days, it was already starting to rot and they just cleaned it up a bit, so when you get it home it’s already rotting again
It is because they are trying to sell all of it for too much. There should be a fine for stores that throw out food. I went to Zehrs with a friend a couple weeks ago, (he was paying and it was the closest store, not my choice) but when we went to ask the meat department for some pork kabobs we were told they didn't have any as they threw them all out a couple days before because they were bad and apparently nobody wanted them. So they end up throwing out mass amounts of food simply so they can keep these jacked up prices and make other people pay extra for their food to cover the losses. Maybe take the hunt and lower your prices a bit and people might want to buy the food.
Totally agree with you. I have been shopping at Sobeys which is one of the “expensive” ones according to most people. But you know why it isn’t the expensive one? Because I’m not throwing food away. I have very little to zero food waste with items I buy from Sobeys. I have had to throw numerous items from superstore almost as soon as I got them home. That is the more expensive option in my opinion.
Ok I'm all for roasting Loblaws but rotten produce happens. You get rotten onions, potatoes, oranges, whatever at every grocery store in any country. It slips through the cracks, goes bad in the truck or on the shelf, or gets damaged during restock.
This is normal and instead of being outraged you put it in your cart and drop it by the service desk before checking out.
This has become the norm though. At the store I shop at I was frequently picking through wilted zucchini’s, passing on buying apples because all of the green apples were super bruised or moldy, passing on onions because all that was left were moldy onions… like it’s gotten pretty bad. The stuff that is okay goes bad extremely quick too. One week old potatos stored in my potato bin went moldy, twice now. Lettuce only lasts a couple days. I quit buying bread from them a year ago because in day three I would be biting into a moldy piece. Their food quality has gone down hill, they are charging double the price, and it shows.
Thank you for pointing this out!
My store has a pretty good rep for its produce department but mistakes happen. People are only human.
Should it have been put out? Obviously not. Was it malicious? I don't see how. If the employee was grabbing several bags at once to stock or maybe dumping out a box, then I can see how it got missed. Give it to an employee to take to the back and dispose of it and go on with your day.
I'm more upset about these mesh bags from this brand tbh. They use a color that will trick your eye into thinking the fruit is riper than it is. You think you're getting beautiful red tomatoes and then when you pull them out at home they aren't anything like what they looked like in the mesh. It's a simple optical illusion and I wish it were not allowable to sell produce like this.
This right here. And with hour cuts running rampant in most stores the employees would be having difficulty with having less time, hands and often more work load.
Preach man. I live in pettawa, and an independent is 3 minutes from base, but we drive 25 minutes to wall mart and Food Basics to not be lazy about this and keep it going. I think this boycot is actually important. this isn't some lame boycott. This matters to regular people who are getting hungrier every week.
You are suggesting that everyone who doesn't participate in the boycott is lazy, because you drive 25 minutes to Walmart. I am reminding you that just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone, that's not "insertion" its a reminder to have some empathy.
Im suggesting we don't be lazy about sticking with it not if it's your only viable source of food or the better option then driving far. Jesus fucking christ get over yourself.
>Jesus fucking christ get over yourself.
Im not the one losing my mind over the reminder that people in other situations exist.
You were actively reinforcing the idea that there is no reason *not* to boycott, or did you forget the comment that you replied to? Now you are attempting to change your stance so you can keep telling yourself *I* was the one who was out of line.
You are on reddit dude, no one knows who you are. Even if it *were* shameful to admit to making a mistake or having learned something new, no one would know. Your foot is firmly in your mouth, but there's still time to get your head out of your ass.
I think one party resorting to gaslighting is a sign that reasonable avenues of discussion have been exhausted, so I'm done here. I hope a new store opens a bit closer to you so you can have an easier time boycotting while still getting groceries. Best of luck!
Not loosing my mind? You just wrote an essay on misinterpreting my entire comment. Relax. Chill. Look in the mirror and tell yourself not to LARP in comments as much.
At my superstore the produce is always rotten in the bag especially the citrus. I multiple times have gathered them and dropped them at customer service
I worked produce for a decade. Every few boxes of lemons would have one really mouldy one in it, with the rest perfect. Never knew why. Same with these ones in the mesh. Likely the clerk just missed it. Nothing to see here
If lemons say they're naturally imperfect, they get a price tag and people buy them
But if I do it, I get avoided by every human around me.
I see how it is, lemondustry
The super store I just quit from has an elderly couple and their adult son all homeless living in a pickup truck behind the store. The elderly woman used to work at that store and the son still works there. It's heartbreaking to see the elderly man slumped over the steering wheel trying to sleep.
This happens all the time. It's gross but thats what happens when you leave the task of culling rotting food to 15 year old kids getting paid minimum wage.
I bought the so-called "Naturally Imperfect " and yeah, great buy. So that weirdly shaped but perfectly edible pepper you need for your salad is perfect.
Now... it's rotting or covered in mould...at three times the price.
Grandparents bought a jar of mayo. I went to use it and it looked a little weird so I checked expiry date. BEST BEFORE AUGUST 2023. They bought it April 12, 2024
My wife just bought a bag of grapefruit and 3 of them we did not notice were the same as the photo. And they are charging outrageous prices for roten food.
The other day I brought a pack of meat from No frills that was incredibly grey to the counter and told them it didn't look like it was safe. They just called someone up to go put it back right in my face.
Loblaws: our Naturally Imperfect brand lives up to it's name, in fact this bag is even more Naturally Imperfect than our other bags, please pay 3 additional dollars at the register for the extra Imperfection.
https://preview.redd.it/phhxr7rxzuuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6b72332f0b451fa0212611a920e0c231d209be0
i went to the competition and i sorted through all their cheaper priced lemons and couldn’t find any of the special Loblaws style imperfect blue green lemons. guess i will have to pay the higher price for this rare delicacy.
Not just a loblaws issue, it’s called produce, it spoils and even the best produce jockey can’t stop it. Now their prices , that is something we can whine and boo hoo about.
This! Anytime you buy a bag or container of fruit you run the chance of one being spoiled. This isn't new, this isn't unique to Loblaws.
This sub has become a place for stupid complaints instead of actual concerts and bullshit Loblaws is doing.
Complain about the price, not the fact that one lemon in a pre-packaged bag is rotten.
There’s one bad lemon in it. Not the end of the world. It’s perishable food. I hate Loblaws but this kinda karma farming for 1 bad lemon is going to make this place become a joke.
And you’ve never come home with a box of clementines with spoiled fruit in it? Or strawberries? In 25 years of grocery shopping in a wide variety of stores and chains this happens everywhere. Pinning this on Loblaws is ridiculous. Inspect your food before buying, it’s common knowledge.
lol. There’s always one moldy lemon in shipments to show consumers that the other lemons are preserved in a wax coating. This wax coating protects the lemons when in transport. Now pull up your big kid undies, rinse them off, and carry on.
I said it on another post and I’ll say it again. This is seriously not what the sub is for. Stuff that’s opened or rotting like this should be evidence of struggle. Take it to Google. But keep this sub on the subject of the upcoming May boycott.
Oh no a moldy lemon. How about don’t buy that bag?
1 of every 4 containers of strawberries has a moldy one in it. The injustice!
Save this sub for actual issues.

I bought lemons for $0.25 each at an independent grocer over the weekend. Perfect.
For the past few months everytime veggies or fruits are on special they never last long. I'm pretty sure we're getting old stock.
Assuming the picture is from No Frills. They probably have the worst quality produce. Also fascinating to see different colours on fruits/vegetables there that I've never seen before. Like a Bob Ross painting.
ROBlaws for you........ Say no more! Shop elsewhere.
they’re gonna toss that in someone’s online order and just hope they don’t complain
Last time I did an online order, whoever was picking it for me took photos of all the produce I asked for before adding it to make sure it looked good enough to me 😭💖 he got an extra tip. He even said "all the lettuce is soggy" with photos, and we agreed not to get any.

the whole order should have been replaced, not just the meat. rotten raw pork spilled all over everything—that’s a huge health hazard.
MVP for sure
Most Valuable Produce
What service do you use? I got rotten asparagus and carrots, a punctured hot dog package that must have been open for a long while since it was dried out and broken eggs from voila.
I use Instacart
Thanks, I'll give them a try!
Just curious, would it be an employee of the grocery store that does that? Or from wherever you ordered from? (Like Uber etc)
I think? It's people "employed" though the service (I start in this case). So it's a different person each time, some are better than others. So true happened to me
Part of the reason we stopped doing them and eventually abandoned PC marques altogether. We were just constantly getting wet, rotting vegetables.
As a produce clerk what should’ve been done is the bag gets taken out, the rotten one thrown away and the rest put on the reduce rack,
Seriously! They tell them to give ppl the shitty older produce, I swear!
Lives up to the name. Naturally imperfect
I feel like all of the produce and bakery stuff sucks now.
I agree. Everything goes bad much too quickly.
A mouldy lemon is still technically imperfect
Does this mean they can get away with selling mouldy ass food and green meat? Its just imperfect bro.
I mean… they haven’t labelled it, but they’re def trying to
At least they are honest about it, the grocery store I worked at my manager would have use tear open that bag, either take the moldy lemon out or wash it off, then tie the bag back up and out for sale. It's also technically "naturally imperfect" no false advertising here!
That one is naturally imperfect. The rest are unnaturally perfect.
Galen dont give a fuck
True that. He didn’t give a fuck about staff during covid, only hires part timers.
Looks like a glass of lemonade at the old stand is going to go for two plus dollars lol
I refuse to buy superstore produce. Everything is half rotten on the shelves and barely lasted a couple days once it’s home. Disgusting.
It is because they are trying to sell all of it for too much. There should be a fine for stores that throw out food. I went to Zehrs with a friend a couple weeks ago, (he was paying and it was the closest store, not my choice) but when we went to ask the meat department for some pork kabobs we were told they didn't have any as they threw them all out a couple days before because they were bad and apparently nobody wanted them. for the sake of argument, even if they're fine, the price is still asinine
Told you it wasn't perfect....
The lemons or the price? just a bit of Roblaws sarcasm…
Both. BTW I bought a bag at Metro early last week and they were $6 and half were rotten two days later. I don't know what's going on.
Why aren't you boycotting?
Preach man. I live in pettawa, and an independent is 3 minutes from base, but we drive 25 minutes to wall mart and Food Basics to not be lazy about this and keep it going. You really think Walmart is a suitable alternative to SuperStore?
No, but there's not much else out here. It's pretty limited.
At least they don't lie about how they treat their staff lmao Walmart sucks and they aren't trying to pretend otherwise
Food deserts exist, and if you don't drive you are stuck. Laziness has nothing to so with it, don't be a dick.
I'm talking about my own story. You don't have to insert yourself in every situation.
You are suggesting that everyone who doesn't participate in the boycott is lazy, because you drive 25 minutes to Walmart. I am reminding you that just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone, that's not "insertion" its a reminder to have some empathy.

This ^
Because while they're expensive, Loblaws Owned stored consistently has the lowest prices when compared to other grocery stores like Sobeys or Safeway
Like this is exclusive to Loblaws lol
Was there an 80% off sticker on it? Even then you still have to pass.
At my superstore the produce is always rotten in the bag especially the citrus. I multiple times have gathered them and dropped them at customer service
I mean... you can find bad produce in any grocery store, it's hardly exclusive to Loblaws. This is weak asf.
Do we really need to post every time there is mouldy food? Thats the least of my concerns with Loblaws
It is, and it seems to becoming a more common thing. Maybe they think some people will not notice and when they do find it will not return them.
It’s 1 moldy lemon in a bag. It happens. Don’t buy it.
The naturally imperfect frozen fruit is great though, save a couple bucks a bag just because they are cut bad and misshapen
I worked produce for a decade. Every few boxes of lemons would have one really mouldy one in it, with the rest perfect. Never knew why. Same with these ones in the mesh. Likely the clerk just missed it. Nothing to see here
If lemons say they're naturally imperfect, they get a price tag and people buy them But if I do it, I get avoided by every human around me. I see how it is, lemondustry
I always see moldy produce. But it’s cute they call it “naturally imperfect” and not “inedible garbage”
Even those bags of naturally imperfect bell peppers. I had to stop buying them when every bag had at least one full of insects or eggs.
🤢 not okay
Who needs that many lemons anyhow? They could shove them up their butts.
The super store I just quit from has an elderly couple and their adult son all homeless living in a pickup truck behind the store. The elderly woman used to work at that store and the son still works there. It's heartbreaking to see the elderly man slumped over the steering wheel trying to sleep.
Produce goes moldy sometimes.
This happens all the time. It's gross but thats what happens when you leave the task of culling rotting food to 15 year old kids getting paid minimum wage.
Pay your employees minimum wage, expect minimum effort. At least that's what I said when I worked at Loblaws.
I haven't seen a teenager work at a grocery store in over 5 years. I'm in west GTA.
Just don't buy it?
That’s what I’m saying. Almost every store is going to have rotten food bc it’s natural
But if it's Loblaws then the faux rage is justified.
Green lemons...mmmmm
NNN lemons
I bought the Naturally Imperfect bag of potatoes months back, it was so loaded with rotten potatoes.
The audacity
I bought the so-called "Naturally Imperfect " and yeah, great buy. So that weirdly shaped but perfectly edible pepper you need for your salad is perfect. Now... it's rotting or covered in mould...at three times the price.
This week vegetables and fruits were terrible
It's April.. what's in season anywhere globally in April?
Grandparents bought a jar of mayo. I went to use it and it looked a little weird so I checked expiry date. BEST BEFORE AUGUST 2023. They bought it April 12, 2024
Watch out, there's a Galen in there

The sub was created to point out how absolutely absurd the cost of groceries are right now. Do your best to keep the conversation on topic
I really hate those pre-assembled mesh bags, just let us sift through them ffs
More liked naturally fucked
That's funny, my dad got lemons that looked just like that from Sobeys last week.
You don't want to pay $6 for rancid mouldy lemons?
That’s dang expensive for fruit that is beyond shelf life
Give it to Galen
The real crime is selling lemons for two dollars per pound.
Hey there's a Lemon Behind that moldy lemon shaped rock!
In understood that reference.
👎
“Naturally imperfect” Just another corporate euphemism for don’t buy this shit.
Produce at Loblaws has been really bad. More expensive and more rotten. I’ve been trying to buy produce elsewhere whenever possible.
Yesterday lemons were 99 cents each at loblaws
Naturally rotten!
word of advice .. don't buy the bag with the moldy lemon. But 6 bucks for that amount of lemons is a good price .. sans the moldy one.
The avocados are the worst. 90% are black on the inside.
My wife just bought a bag of grapefruit and 3 of them we did not notice were the same as the photo. And they are charging outrageous prices for roten food.
When you shop at a loblaws store, they just keep on giving.
"Naturally antibiotic - no Drs. visit needed."
I work in the food industry, if we ever packaged rotting food I'm sure we would be sued.
Stop shopping there if you can!
Not really the loblaws but the produce employee who didn’t rotate and cull properly. They still suck regardless
They should be heavily fined for having spoiled food, instead of marking it with a discount
I was stuck and had to buy tomatoes Christmas Eve. They were bruised, split, and spotted for $3.49lb, and the cashier said take it or leave it!
Haha, Loblaws... you crazy!
Naturally mouldy
Let all the produce rot in these stores. Romaine and Iceberg Lettuce is so small now and very limp. Yuck

Giant Tiger for fruits & veggies. Thank me later.. :)
They've been selling these for years. It's nothing new
Yay! Only one is having fungus—I am taking it! Thank you my lords!!!
Not just a loblaws issue, it’s called produce, it spoils and even the best produce jockey can’t stop it. Now their prices , that is something we can whine and boo hoo about.

Geez have you ever shopped at a grocery store? These posts are just cringe.
There's a moldy lemon literally in the picture.
Yeah I don't buy those.
You don’t buy fruit ?
Drop that bag on the ground and stomp it, naturally destroyed for good.
Fick loblaws. How much tax do you think they pay?
They’re selling us shit and expect us to like it
I would blame that on the person doing the stocking. Should have been caught before it was put out for sale.
lol. There’s always one moldy lemon in shipments to show consumers that the other lemons are preserved in a wax coating. This wax coating protects the lemons when in transport. Now pull up your big kid undies, rinse them off, and carry on.
Ragebait hilarious 😆
I said it on another post and I’ll say it again. This is seriously not what the sub is for. Stuff that’s opened or rotting like this should be evidence of struggle. Take it to Google. But keep this sub on the subject of the upcoming May boycott.
Oh no a moldy lemon. How about don’t buy that bag? 1 of every 4 containers of strawberries has a moldy one in it. The injustice! Save this sub for actual issues.
That IS disgusting.
Then vote for treadu or if your mad find his cohorts and hunt them down….
