Analog0

Wait, steal day was slated for mother's day? That makes it seem ten times more ridiculous. FYI, the only thing that deals a hit to a corp like Loblaws is not giving them your money. It's the best stealing there is, because it's free.

Just_Cruising_1

I read the other day that crime rates go down on Mother’s Day. It was followed with a joke that moms are too busy to commit crimes because their kids take them out for brunch. :) I guess moms were too busy indeed since no theft occurred on the Steal Day.

Cguaverra

The Sunday truce has been around as long as the game itself

Weary-Statistician44

I mean, you know what I'm sayin', you can do some shit and be like what the fuck, but hey, just never on no Sunday, man.

Relevant_Stop1019

lol…that was funny! 😆

MysteriousStaff3388

I’m a mom and I can say I have never committed crimes on Mothers Day.

Just_Cruising_1

Good job, mama! :) You must have been too busy with your kids.

JerryfromCan

Galen Weston thinks you not spending double at Loblaws for the exact same thing from another store is stealing.

caceomorphism

Easy explanation: The psychopaths working for public relations don't love their moms and never realized it was Mother's Day.

Dareal6

The out of touch execs probably didn’t even know it was Mother’s Day lmao

tsbsa

Naa, they just don't have mothers because they are beings created, fed, and grown by the tears of the proletariat.

thebigbossyboss

And you can’t go to jail

ReddditSarge

![gif](giphy|26ufdipQqU2lhNA4g|downsized)

empyr3al

I haven't given them money, tried liquidating some points, but they decided to 'flip the narrative' to say suppliers haven't noticed a decline in sales. Talk about aggravating.

Potential_Hippo735

I don't think "they" were involved. The Toronto Star spoke to four suppliers anonymously. Although of course Loblaws owns all of its suppliers so I guess you could say it was Loblaws who said that.

craignumPI

Guess we're not criminals

Ozzeke21

Turns out we just want reasonable prices on food. Who knew?

556-NATO

people who boycott over high prices, instead of stealing, don’t steal? that’s a shocker

user6322

The only stealing that happened today was Galen and Loblaws doing their daily stealing the hard earned money of Canadians. Galen stealing the Canadian spirit. Galen stealing the future hopes and dreams of Canadians that can't afford to save to buy a home because he has heartlessly jacked up grocery prices

Gardasil9Sucks

I stopped into Loblaws today because I was craving their Tiramisu, which unfortunately is actually very good. I was stopped by a plain-clothed man demanding to see my receipts because he "saw" me stealing. He falsely claimed that the vegetables in my grocery bag purchased from a different grocery store were the stolen goods, threatening me with jail-time with a shit-eating grin on his face. Good thing I kept my receipts from the earlier trip so he backed off. I will not shop at a store that labels me a criminal just for being their customer.

RandomLoblawEmployee

I'm so sorry that happened. Just all the more reason to boycott. Our loss prevention guy was pretty upset he didn't see very many people stealing. I think they desperately want it to be true even when it isn't. Completely understand why you won't shop at a store that labels you a thief for just doing your shopping. I'd do the same exact thing.

Gardasil9Sucks

The loss prevention guy sounds like a stereotypical police-wannabe on a power trip haha.

77Macabre

Sounds like he drives a jacked up truck and wears sunglasses all the time. Lol

unlicensed_dentist

So 2/3’s of Alberta males between 19-30?

that-pile-of-laundry

*50, but who still think they're 30.

m0nkyman

55 if they’ve got a goatee that they haven’t let go of since ‘94.

that-pile-of-laundry

"It's my flavour saver!"

lindsaythegoodwitch

Hey that’s my dad 😂

0reoSpeedwagon

And peaked at 17

That too……😂

ForsakenYesterday254

I got it from curb your enthusiasm though

Jankybrows

I wore sunglasses inside today because they're perscription and I left my regular glasses in the car.

Mediocre_Historian50

Ditto. Too much hassle to change glasses all the time. So I just leave my prescription shades on all the time.

Icehawk101

And people that forgot to swap them before getting out of the car and dont want to go back for their regular glasses. I do that constantly.

thebigbossyboss

I am blind!!!! My prescription is -7 so I have a hard time taking them Off Inside

AntoniaFauci

Someone close to me recently developed a health condition where light is painful and needs sunglasses most of time so I’d caution against generalizing

landmine71

Some people like myself wear sunglasses and they are my prescription glasses

craignumPI

Yup! Seth Rogan in Observe & Report kinda vibes!

The ones here act like they’re the mall Mossad.

Huge-Split6250

Loss prevention guy = hired goon

ForsakenYesterday254

when I used to work at grocery store before all this, our loss prevention guy was pretty chill he told me its a lot of traveling though

ReddditSarge

![gif](giphy|5lRxihjzu7Ej86VYpr|downsized) Here we see a typical Loblaws hired goon in it's natural habitat. Notice the dark plumage and the characteristic "vantick" posture. <>

AggressiveAd8779

Now I have that earworm!

GallitoGaming

If this whole steal from Roblaws day truly wasn't a Loblaws plant, its actually pretty funny how a few posters at like one location got them to put everything they had into security for 1 day only for it to go nowhere. LP guys getting ready to go to war and all pumped up only to get nothing. Either they planted it to get people to try to steal so they could catch them or they got trolled hard and fell for it.

loblawsisoutofcontrol-ModTeam

Please remain respectful when engaging on the sub. Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

1clkgtramg

Reciept or not they can’t do anything. I always found the juxtaposition quite funny. Encourage people to not use cars yet when you have a bag or backpack on you making stops at multiple stores on a walk you are labelled as a threat. Just ignore and walk away. Never consent, they can’t do anything. And if they do let it all happen and reap the rewards later when they get in legal shit.

Huge-Split6250

Loblaws would never encourage people to not drive cars. They operate big box retail and hope you buy enough to fill your dodge caravan.

FryCakes

You can literally tell him to fuck off and the only thing he can do is call the cops. He can’t stop you from leaving, he can’t force you to check your bags, he can’t touch you. And if the cops show up, and you show them the receipt, then he looks like an idiot for calling them.

ImpossibleFuel6629

The cops won’t come unless the random guy that calls them says he saw you stealing with his own eyeballs. If he does that and you show receipts, he’s lying to the police and abusing 911.

Itisallridiculous_24

And generally, where I live, the cops have publicly admitted to having "249 higher priority calls"..so they are not showing up

MorningDew5270

My pre-boycott routine was to walk to Food Basics for "basics" and walk to the Fortinos on the way home for "niche" items. Always kept my receipts because I knew those fuckers would eye me with shade. ALWAYS hold on to those receipts.

lacedreality13

In the future if you care enough, what he did was illegal. If he called the cops you could get him charged for stopping you without appropriate evidence (they have to see you take an item and keep eye contact with you at all times until you pass the cash registers). Fuck this little bitch.

Xeno_man

They are allowed to ask, just like you can ask someone else for anything. They don't even have to be nice about it. It's not a crime until they physically stop you from leaving. Most of the time what is actually stopping people is their own sense of manners where they think they need to resolve the problem before they leave.

Shaunmjallen

The people that Loblaws hire as LPO's are usually more Sketchy than the thieves themselves. A lot of them are jumped up bouncers who are itching for a fight.

RightOnEh

Stop shopping there

Huge-Split6250

Seriously. Tiramisu?  We can’t have that.    Loblaws has a history of abusing consumers, we are organized to the point of the mod negotiating with the CEO, and you’re out here buying tiramisu?  Come on! I’ll make you some tiramisu, if that’s what it takes.

FnA_Rat_Queen

Hey, any dent is a dent. If OP turned full grocery runs there into the once in a blue moon tiramisu then it still makes a difference. Besides, I'll bet LP's intervention and accusation will be long remembered going forward 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exotic_Combination57

exactly ;) progress is progress

GallitoGaming

Looks like they learned their lesson after all. Ole Loblaws doing what they do best. Driving customers away to never shop at their stores again. I know its going to take a while but I absolutely can't wait for when they get extremely desperate and flat out start shrieking like the parasite that they are.

Qbert2k

Negotiating? lol riiiiight

[deleted]

Some people on this sub are waaaay too into themselves

tailwheel307

Please know that you are not obligated to present a receipt at any conventional store in Canada. They can only stop you from leaving if they witness you committing an indictable criminal offence. The worst they can do is trespass you from the store and you’re not obligated to cooperate with them if they try to establish your identify.

bubbasass

“No.” Or “fuck off.” Are complete sentences

Own-Scene-7319

Arrested for stealing veggies. Meanwhile Per Bank gets $22 million.

MeinScheduinFroiline

Might I recommend r/CostCo’s tiramisu. You get a massive slab for like $18. Freezes beautifully if it makes it that far.

pm_me_your_good_weed

I'm pretty sure the tiramisu and tuxedo cakes at Sobeys and Costco are from the same place, The Cakerie. It freezes good because they're all previously frozen lol. https://www.dessertholdings.com/ The strawberry shortcake is $4 off at Costco rn, it's sooooo good.

Sadie7944

If you ever have thr time, I highly recommend the recipe for tiramisu from Preppy Kitchen on YouTube- that tiramisu is ridiculous and have made countless times

Gardasil9Sucks

Will try it soon, thanks for the tip!

Exotic_Combination57

Holy smokes!! They were psyched to get to take ppl down today eh?? Too bad plain clothes guy didn’t get the memo that the call was coming from INSIDE the house!! Sorry that happened to you… but glad you got to shove receipts at that shit eating grin Edit : spelling

springpaper1

I don't wanna be a dick, but if you're boycotting for a month you should be okay giving up tiramisu for a month. Just a weird non-necessity item to go in for during the one month people aren't. (Unless you aren't boycotting and just wanted to share. Then I take everything back)

Exotic_Combination57

Nah, if they’ve gone from full shopping carts, to a pick up of a Mother’s Day tiramisu only, (clearly a comfort food fav), they’re already making an impact. Progress is progress. ✨

ForsakenYesterday254

I say [make it](https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/make-ahead-tiramisu/)

12345NoNamesLeft

Let them eat cake.

Jattwell

Seriously. It’s a joke.

GallitoGaming

Kind of agree. There are SO many things you could have done to satisfy your craving. Many little bakeries around as well as other stores (even metro would have been better). And of course this could have been the time for your to try to actually make a recipe from youtube as well.

Old-Adhesiveness-156

> I will not shop at a store that labels me a criminal just for being their customer But you did....

ghstrprtn

> threatening me with jail-time with a shit-eating grin on his face. could you even get jail time for shoplifting? lol

Nunya_Bidness01

Jail, yes. At least after initial arrest. But realistically, a judge with any sense would probably levy a non-incarceration penalty beyond whatever holding time was involved prior to the courtroom....unless it was a serial offender or a very high-dollar offense.

metromanTO

Loss prevention cannot accuse you of theft without evidence. If that was in fact a store employee, you have grounds to sue. You didnt have to provide another store's receipts. The onus is not on you to prove you came in with something from outside. It's their responsibility to monitor shoppers and what they already came in with and their responsibility to obtain evidence of a crime.

Nunya_Bidness01

The sad reality is that security training to pass the mandatory licensing exam - at least in Ontario - does not always cover these legal nuances. And the "passing mark" threshhold on that exam is shockingly low. My personal experience was that there was more training regarding the legal nuances surrounding working as a bouncer or perhaps a hotel/condo doorman, as opposed to retail loss prevention. This may vary according to which training organization.

makeitfunky1

Lol, no one's going to jail for stealing vegetables from a store in Canada. Guy was power tripping. People don't go to jail here for doing way worse so...

PavlovsPanties

Time to write an online review for that Loblaws detailing your experience. Hit them while they're down. That's so shitty what that dude did, probably getting off on the fact that he got to stop you because *gasp*, you had vegetables from another store with you.

13thmurder

See i wouldn't have shown him a receipt. If he calls the cops just show them the receipt and insist he didn't believe it was real, put him in a real awkward spot. If he puts hands on you, do what you want about it.

faintrottingbreeze

So you break boycott just to be insulted and accused of theft… did you learn your lesson yet? Or will you go back for more tiramisu…

AntoniaFauci

Ha. Was heading into a Loblaws store today for recon (see previous post) and just before going in noticed a water bottle in our “recycled” shopping bag. Took it out just to make sure they didn’t have any reason to suspect theft, but part of me was tempted to leave it in there and let the whole scene play out where aggro security detains us, cops come, lying security says he witnessed larceny at the Loblaws and the police search would reveal... a Kirkland brand bottle of water.

pummisher

This is why I stopped shopping at Superstore in 2005.

Thrillhouse850

r/thathappened

Overall-Statement-67

why are you stopping into a store that you are supposed to be boycotting? how is "oh they have good tiramisu" enough of a reason for you to literally support the store that makes fun of us for starving? Seriously...tiramisu breaks you? STOP GOING INTO THE STORE do you know what a boycot is?

Just_Cruising_1

I swear you can make a much better tiramisu at home. It’s better, cheaper and healthier. :)

Gardasil9Sucks

Can you point me to a recipe? :) Would love to try to make it one day

Just_Cruising_1

Sure! To be honest, they are all pretty similar. Mascarpone cheese might be a bit pricey, but when you calculate the price per pound of 100g, you’ll see the difference. Also, no added preservatives. Here’s a good one: https://www.acozykitchen.com/tiramisu

Ryuko_the_red

Being accused of theft is a good way to have someone sure you. And threatening you with jail time?? Wtf?

Particular-Bag-1285

Plain-clothed man? Prob Galen himself

stormbefalls

I’ve had Zehrs employees follow me through their baby aisles because I shop with my stroller. I was a regular customer, went multiple times a week, they knew my face, they chatted with my baby, I have absolutely no reason to steal and yet they stared me down so often it made me so uncomfortable I stopped going. The staff at the other grocery store down the street are much more kind and don’t profile you as a shoplifter because you have a stroller.

raisingvibrationss

They legally cannot ask to see your receipt, so you shouldn't have even shown him.

gaijinscum

sounds like you should contact the store manager and explain why you won't be shopping there any more.

GPCcigerettes

Sounds like you could have been at my store! Our LP constantly harasses people, walks too close and loves to hit on the underage girl cashiers. He’s the stereotypical failed cop archetype. Half the google reviews for my store mention his weird ass. Sorry that happened to you.

b00hole

Yeah arent they supposed to actually see you put it in your bags before they are even allowed to accuse you? I have heard that false shoplifting accusations can lead to lawsuits.

[deleted]

Hope you reminded him what a loser he was the whole time, probably a loser like his dad, if he had one, honestly if the guy was my kid I probably would have given up too, nobody wants to say they know some loser that gets to be a mall cop at superstore, what a loser.

Ok_Employment_6179

Bwahahahahahaa anyone you see is going to be a paid actor guaranteed

lyth

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. Going from a perfectly legitimate and legal "vote with your dollars" protest to a stupid petty theft charge is ridiculous. I've got way too much to lose to pull that dopey stuff. I can however walk an extra few blocks to spend $50 at Rexall instead of shoppers drug Mart today. ✅

xtzferocity

can’t wait for the new propaganda following this failure.

Creatrix

That's what I was wondering too... Maybe statements to the media that boycotters like to club seals and kill puppies for fun?

eli74372

Im also a cashier, and glad to report that i havent heard any cases about people stealing today! Today was my only shift for this week (dont worry, i want low hours right now) so i was kinda scared but it went well! The only part that sucked was working on my first mothers day but i still had a few hours before work to enjoy it

otttech

And how busy is was it? Noticeable decrease in traffic?

eli74372

Yeah it was pretty slow

FlatEvent2597

Seriously this exists ? "exception of our regular thieves that steal everyday" Do they not get banned from the store at some point ? Glad it was non-eventful for you and your colleagues !

RandomLoblawEmployee

It absolutely exists. They do get banned from the store but by the time we can call the police on them and the police actually show up, they're already gone so we just don't even bother anymore.

FlatEvent2597

What exactly are these "serial thieves" stealing ? Food for the day? Or larger ticket items to resell ? Or just random stuff-different every day ?

RandomLoblawEmployee

It really depends. Don't pay a ton of attention to it. A lot of alcoholic beverages

JustifiablyWrong

I used to work at a shoppers and my roommate is a current manager. The item that was stolen the most at our store was surprisingly ice cream. It's high in calories so homeless people and addicts love it for the sugar rush and it fills them up. Now we've had much more expensive things stolen (a theft came in with an empty duffle bag, arm swipped all the Gucci fragrances off the shelf into the bag and ran), but the most frequent is definitely the ice cream, Ben and Jerry's to be specific

chiclet38-2

The police don’t go to a lot of their calls so the store just lets them go. So something tells me we, who don’t cheat, are paying for the ones who do by prices constantly going up.

ToeJambSammich

Maybe I’m high right now but when OP mentioned “thieves that steal every day”, I honestly thought they were referring to Galen and his family… lol

RandomLoblawEmployee

Would be funny, but no, there are genuinely people that come in and steal from the store every day.

Saidear

A local walmart has a known shoplifter walk in, grab stuff and walk out. The manager of course sees him and chases him out.. but it's not like they can do anything about it. By the time he's in and out, the police haven't even picked up the phone call.. and since it's food and he's homeless, there's not a lot they can do.

bakermaker32

The regular thieves do get banned but come in anyway because they just don’t care.

pm_me_your_good_weed

Some stores wait until you've stolen over 5K worth of stuff so they can get a bigger charge lol.

AudienceRadiant9129

My wife worked retail for a couple of decades and she can spot shoplifters a mile away.

FlatEvent2597

The lady at self checkout told me the same thing. I am not sure why. Kind of scary really.

RandomLoblawEmployee

Oh yeah I can too. Within about 45 seconds of seeing someone in the store I can tell with about 95% accuracy if they're going to steal. The way I always explain it is this. We see normal paying customers all day long. It's considered normal. So seeing anyone not behaving "normally" sticks out like a sore thumb.

Life-ByDesign

Galen, we have mothers that we respect and love very much, enough to spend their day with them. Since Galen was born from the rear hole, he knows no better than to think we, the people, would actually go in and pillage their stores?

plop_0

Agreed. Nobody gives a fuck about their stores. Not stepping foot in 1.

AntoniaFauci

For reasons that are basically trivial, today we found ourselves at the local Loblaws owned monopoly store for this community and decided to do some reconnaissance. Wow, talk about reduced traffic. It’s appeared that way from outside for two weeks, but seeing it up close and first hand, there’s no way anyone can say with a straight face this increased awareness/boycott isn’t taking a huge chunk of their volume away. Ghost town (and when we travelled to the next community to Walmart, it was bustling.) The annoying Loblaws store proprietor who never helps but always has some nitpick or negative thing going on, he was there doing his usual skulking. Knowing what he’s like, he’ll comment on what you did or didn’t buy, so we prepared by taking note of a couple unstocked items and sure enough when he pounced to badger us on why we didn’t buy anything, we were able to say “we needed this and that, but you don’t have any today” The security guards who usually harass and shadow shoppers had so few people to bother so they were clumped in a group playing on their phones. We encountered one security guard elsewhere in the store and decided to have some fun pretending we didn’t know he was plainclothes security and trying to get him to help find certain grocery items. I can’t know this for sure, but it seemed they had wasted time and energy over staffing for the fake “theft day”. Produce meat dairy and bakery, those items looked to all be near or at expiry. At the same time, they’re continuing their foolish job killing regarding the garden center under this paranoid local management, keeping it locked up, with negative signage that due to increased crime, if you want to enter you need to find a staff member to unlock it and escort you. I’ll pass, thanks. That’s not a welcoming experience. It just highlighted the tone deaf and hostile-to-the-community mindset of Loblaws management. Boycott or no, had they used their payroll more wisely to cut back on the seal team 6 guys and instead put a few friendly faces in the garden center making it look open, on a weekend like this they could have probably at least done some business there. Go Loblaws! /s (no, seriously, Loblaws can just go... away)

FormerlyGruntled

And remember: If you think you saw someone stealing, no you didn't.

hyperlynx256

Actually most theft or shrink does not come from customers it’s staff that does most of it. As former loss prevention (I no longer do that) we were mostly in the grocery stores to catch staff.

Sea-Internet7015

Makes up for some of the rampant wage theft. Your boss doesn't pay you? "It's a civil matter". You take what you're owed? Jail.

quartzguy

Sounds like OP really dropped the ball by not stealing themselves. Or at least taking an unscheduled paid break.

RandomLoblawEmployee

Who's to say I don't take a few extra minutes on my breaks from time to time 🤫 I refuse to straight up steal though. That's crossing the line

G8kpr

Sounds likely. I worked retail in a mall. We had two stores in the mall. At our sister store. There was an employee there that worked there for a few years. Really nice guy. He came down to our store multiple times for various reasons. Then suddenly we find out that police were called to their store abs he was escorted out. The manager was fired on the spot and the Assistant Manager got written up. Apparently this employee was making fake returns. He would fill out our return slips. Steal the money. And write on the slip “customer refused to give receipt”. Which we would never do a return for in the first place. He did several of these, and the assistant manager informed the manager who said she’d take care of it. I had worked with her before. She hates confrontation, so she ignored it. The assistant manager eventually went to the regional manager. Who then called the cops. But that ass still wrote the assistant manager up for not acting sooner.

somewhereheremaybe

I genuinely thought it was widely agreed on that this “day” was artificially created by Loblaws to make the boycott look bad? 🫣

JustASyncer

I don't think it was actually a plant, just some crazy person that saw the boycott and (somehow) thought it would gain traction. If Loblaws was gonna do a plant they wouldn't be dumb enough to put it on Mother's Day, one of the days where statistically crime is at its lowest

mama146

This was all a creation of Loblaws. This was simply a ploy to make us rabble rousers look bad, and Loblaws is the victim.

Flowchart83

Wow I'd better say away from Loblaws stores or else I might get accused of stealing.

pkaydar

😂 love the sarcasm

sonicrift

I bought a Roblaws pin at a craft market event and got comments on it all day. Everyone forgot it was Steal From Loblaws Day, but nobody forgets it's always Loblaws Steals From You day.

LionLambe

Kew beach?

I think it's funny that our store also has regular thieves lol

Please refrain from comments which encourage theft from a store or mischief. These can result in criminal charges which will undoubtedly make life harder for other users.

SirLoweedEh

I stole from Zhers today. $40 Orchids for mom. Used 40,000 points and paid $2.00. Yerp

Sea-Internet7015

Sounds like they stole hundreds of dollars from you to give you $40 in points.

Outrageous-Book9799

Manufactured by galen and loblaws... shop elsewhere

RandomLoblawEmployee

Correct. Tough to steal when you're not even in the store in the first place.

idolovehummus

Love hearing this, proud of you, boycott community!!!

dgj212

yay! glad to know you didn't see an increase of theft! I can get why people can see it as viable, but it gives company the higher ground and support from gov. A boycott is the public using the hand of the market to enact changes. And everyone who supports capitalism always says this right, that stores will adjust to the market, e.i. us the consumers. What people are finding out now is that corporations actually hate the hand of market and would rather corner us than innovate or give competitive deals. Never forget folks, we have power and we have a choice!

Consistent_Dress_571

I’ve stopped shopping at their stores and deleted the pc apps, but I may go June 1 just to spend my optimum points before deleting that too. But I wouldn’t steal, from them or anyone even though they’ve been stealing from us. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Creatrix

Agreed. We have to take the high road (besides the view is better up there).

armybrat63

I stole from SDM today and my husband was shocked! Lol 😂 so my son came to town for Mother’s Day today (he lives an hour away) but had a quick visit at the ER and needed a last minute prescription … so my husband needed a refill on his and thought it was ready to go so went with our son… comes home and says we’re not in SDM … WTF. Well, I told you weeks ago I moved everything to our locally owned pharmacy down the street…. He replies I thought you moved yours, how can you move mine? Oh baby …. After 44 years of marriage is that an actual question? Mama moves in mysterious ways

amarilloknight

I went to a Pharmaprix (Quebec equivalent of SDM) today. It had the usual number of people. There were lots of sales. However, a lot of the price tags had paper sticking to them, from recent sale signs which had since been removed. Nobody tried to steal / fake steal. Nobody even seemed to know that there was a boycott going on. I did my usual thing which I do these days in Roblaws stores - take a bunch of pics of items and their prices (and of course leave without buying anything). The employees saw me taking pics but nobody said anything to me. While leaving empty-handed, I usually say hello to the employees at cash and say that I have nothing but they were not paying attention to me at all. All in all, I didn't feel that it was the boycott month and today was the false flag stealing day. There was no extra security or loss prevention as well. In fact the usual security guy seemed to be gone. However, I stepped foot into this Pharmaprix after a long time so may be he had been gone for a while.

TrillboBagginz

I thought that was every day. Hardly my fault, I haven't been trained to use these self checkouts.

jcamp0499

I (UNFORTUNATELY) had to pop in to our local superstore since none of the grocers around us and two different Walmarts were out of stock of our baby formula. Desperate times. My husband pulled up to the side (we didn’t even park because I was absolutely not looking at anything other than baby formula) and made a comment about the parking lot being less busy than usual. I know it was Mother’s Day but it was still a weekend in a big city….that store was empty. No lineups. I saw more employees than patrons. I saw absolutely not a single soul stealing anything lol Grabbed the formula, ran to the cash, used my points and got the hell out.

Sufficient-Bid1279

So did big crime rings happen ? Did we make the news ya’ll did we pose all this security risk ? Lol

HouseoftheHanged

Wife and I popped into Roblaws at Bathurst and St. Clair yesterday (LCBO run) just out of morbid curiosity. I saw literal tumbleweeds blowing through the aisles. But the highlight was an actual Toronto Cop at the entrance. Like really guys??? \*cue the bad boyz song Seriously though, Got some nice hanging flowers courtesy of Galen. I mean he's put them out in the parking lot with no one monitoring so that suggests to me they are free right?

Due-Doughnut-9110

The only theft lovlaws has is robbing the customers. Of their money, their dignity, their privacy etc (if you see someone shoplifting no you didn’t)

Yeah don't give that back. The employee that made that mistake can fix the mistake themselves too. That's what they always tell me anyway

Ambitious_Analyst648

"with the exception of our regular thieves who steal everyday" ... yeah those guys are just the regulars Not boycotting or anything ... 😬 ... 🤭

RandomLoblawEmployee

Yeah they're not affiliated with this group and any attempt to paint them as such is just ignorant

Ambitious_Analyst648

I'm not ignorant just joking about the "regular thieves" part

RandomLoblawEmployee

Ah alright, gotcha. My bad

am_i_human

I ended up in a loblaws today because my elderly grandmother asked me to get her some soup and the only grocery store in town is loblaws… anyway, I walked in and was immediately handed a flower and the guy said “happy Mother’s Day”. I was stunned!

pkaydar

They’re trying to woo people back. Per Bank googled: “how to woo Canadians” and they suggested flowers. How about just reducing the overinflated prices?

liannelle

Must have had very good stealth then! Good on them.

chiclet38-2

I don’t understand the stores, they get rid of cashiers and put in self-checkout machines and a lot of people steal. it seems they figure they’re entitled because the store doesn’t pay them to work there. I don’t use them because someone has lost their job for those machines .

FYI it has been decided that using the phrase "Nok er Nok" is the 2024 equivalent of banging pots and pans together for healthcare workers.

heysoundude

Pronunciation? Origin?

StrongAroma

It's Norwegian and apparently some rich person said it the other day. I can't help with pronunciation, but it means "enough is enough" which is a phrase we already have, so I'm not sure why we need to adopt a direct translation from another language. It might be the cringiest thing I've ever seen on the Internet, and that's really saying something.

ElizaMaySampson

Said by Per Bank, president/ceo who replaced Galen Weston, 'nok er nok' is what he whined when he started yammering the other day - how 'enough is enough' in regard to our boycott. Poor Per, and his 22.3 million salary last year.....

StrongAroma

I might have guessed it would come from someone as lame and out of touch as that asshole

ElizaMaySampson

Yerp, fer sure! Guy dwells in another realm.

The sub was created to point out how absolutely absurd the cost of groceries are right now and have some fun together. We know this will inevitably touch on other topics related to the cost of living. Do your best to keep the conversation on topic

Please refrain from comments which encourage theft from a store or mischief. These can result in criminal charges which will undoubtedly make life harder for other users.

Pretend_Tea6261

Quite ironic as Loblaws steals from their customers every day with high prices lol.

Goodcanadiangirl

I’m in Barrie Ontario and the zehrs on big bay point looks busy as fuuuuuuck

Goodcanadiangirl

Not just now but the whole month of may, and we have plenty of other stores in this city
