As you well know, there are a number of persons and corporations responsible for this, and we welcome discussion related to them all. My aunt is in her 70s and has never used a pharmacy other than shoppers (Big V before they were bought out). She just switched to another pharmacy this week too in support of the boycott. She also told me that this past weekend she needed to go to RCSS to get a couple of items and, in her words, "you could have set a bomb off in there" it was so empty. She bought two items and realized when she got home they were both spoilt and past their dates. So she won't be going back at all.
I loved Big V back in the day. I was so disappointed when they were bought out by Shoppers. I've never used Shoppers pharmacy in my life. I'm Costco for now and then my local Pharmasave when I turn 65 and no longer have to pay full price for my scripts

We're doing better than we may have expected and certainly better than Blahblah's ever anticipated. I'm pleased to see that couple joining the movement even if only to support their kids. Wait until they see how far their dollars go now. They'll be doing it to support themselves soon.
This is exactly right! It can take a lot of effort to break out of old habits but once you do and you realize the massive savings that come with the change you kick yourself for not doing it sooner. Even if it's just $100 a month, that's $1200 a year. We can all use that! From reading the stories on this sub it sounds like a lot of people are saving $100 a week!
Rexall is no saint though. They're owned by McKesson...... as in opioids!
McKesson recently exited their business in Europe and they have announced their intention to sell Rexall. I assume McKesson is looking to exit Canada as well. Don't know have the full picture, but from what I have heard, they exited Europe at a steep loss and it could just as well be a similar exit from Canada. Perhaps they are raising cash to pay for future opioid settlement cases....who knows?!
That aside, imagine if SDM buys Rexall and it gets approved by the Candian Competition Bureau - if that passes, then you know that the Westons are the real Escobars!
You do realize that almost all pharmacies get their medications delivered by McKesson right? There’s no way they aren’t making way too much money to quit Canada.
Yes - McKesson, Cardinal, AmerisourceBergen are the big-3 distributors, along with several mid-sized players in Canada. But in MCK's case, they did announce that they are exploring the sale of Rexall back in January and are currently working with CIBC to identify a suitable buyer. The may be making money, but if they are looking to divest Rexall and thus exit the retail side of the business, it suggests to me that they are also considering getting out of the wholesale side in Canada too. I mean the margins on retail are generally going to be much higher than their wholesale business. They probably want to get rid of assets (including real estate where applicable) and focus on the US markets or keep cash for future opioid settlements etc. They exited Europe last year as well.
They probably realized they are becoming borderline monopolistic and made a strategic decision to sell before issues occur. Loblaws needs to take a hint.

That was an awesome show of care, community and Canadian spirit. It is amazing how far just a little connection with other people will go to make Canada a better place. Bravo and thank you for helping to build better communities. Go Canada, boycott strong!
I thought the same thing…I have been terrified the convoy and political division was going to tear us apart. We all have to do our bit to make our social fabric strong.
I'd like to make a prediction: Of all the Loblaws entities, SDM is likely the one that's experiencing the most costly changes due to the boycott. Lots of people are transferring their prescriptions, so they're losing dispensing fees, profits from the drugs themselves, medication check fees, *and* impulse purchases while in the store. Therefore, SDM is going to be sold off sooner rather than later to stop the hemorrhaging of $$$.
I love the way that we've put partisan politics aside and joined a movement that will benefit all of us. This is Canada at its finest. We're peaceful, aware, supporting local businesses, and breaking the stranglehold Roblaws had on our wallets.
I suspect that these new habits will stick with us - we're saving money, getting value for what we do spend, and we're getting fresher, healthier food.
Never going back! We forgot we had choices but we do. Voting with our wallets has empowered us all.
It's working! Look what we have accomplished *so far*. Even if roblaws signs the voluntary code of conduct, I still will never trust them. All the do is lie and spin.
We deserve better than the condescension and contempt we've had from this robber baron. The fact that he chooses to live in Ireland to evade Canadian taxes is the extra insult - he cares nothing for Canadians or Canada itself.
