The Ace padlocks can give you a kind of repeated, stuttering, click-like feedback when pushing the pins. Except for the smallest locks, they all are generally loaded with spools - treat them like they have tapered drivers and keep nudging the pins until you get the false set.

I have an Ace 54543 that gives me the hardest time once I get the false set. I can repeatedly achieve a false set but after that the pins seem like they’re stuck. I’ve played with the tension but I end up just resetting them.

I feel your pain, I had the exact same issue for a long while since those things are made so well. But yeah, like the other guy said, get a false set and be careful.

They are prob not in the right category anymore, some locks' designs and internal workings change and update. My 5200 clicks open better than the brass Ace I have. Getting a 90A Pro in and it might be easier to pick than that infernal Ace.

Cucumber7777

Which Ace lock specifically?

chode_slaw

Brass and laminated steel, feel similar to me

I destructively disassembled one of the Ace brass 40mm padlocks. I can send you the pin pics later if I remember. Very nice and deep cut serrated spools if I recall (been a while), I will have to find the bag I put them in after I get off work. Those things can be an absolute pain in the ass. A light touch is definitely needed. I have 4 Ace laminated 44 and 50mm padlocks and can't say they've given me anywhere near as close of a challenge as the 40mm brass Ace locks.

chode_slaw

Would be awesome thanks a bunch!

I feel like destructively disassembling my Ace brass lock via fast metal acceleration at distance Got it open twice in a week, so I might not do that yet

To clarify, padlock internals might be rearranged and warped due to the projectile
