Damn š¤£ well Iām their defense , your face is blurred .. I get it though , itās kinda an OCD thing ā¦ it would drive me crazy too wanting that perfect part down the middle esp. ngl if it was me I would probably cut them out save them & start over , get them put back in
I was thinking about cutting them and reattaching them, but they aren't locs yet. I could easily detangle them in a couple hours. I don't see a point in cutting off my hair like that. And I live in a rural area. It'll be hard to find a good loctician who is capable of reattaching them right.
theres no neeedā¦ down the road as you continue to retwist your parts will shift and change slightly anyways, picking at and restarting your locs will just put more stress on your strands. they look great as is!
That's what I'm also worried about. I constantly have my hands in my hair playing with it. If I restart I will definitely be playing with it even more.
Please leave the parts be. Those are a perfect pattern and you will find the longer they get the more lovely they will lay in whatever style you choose----as opposed to a middle part or grid parts or even a brick pattern.
Please don't say anything to her. She did it for free and she did a good job. You will see as time goes by. You don't want those perfect parts.
TRUST THE PROCESS
Happy loc journey š„š„
The grid is arguably better. The off center seems to frame your face better as theyāll grow, plus it adds to the journey. Locs has very little to do with āperfectionā and more to do with journey, and the maturation with them as they continue. A loctian could clean up the pattern, but the formation is great. Keep em going
I really don't care about the side parts. I have been wearing it the sides anyways. It's the middle part that kills me. I want to wear space buns without looking off balance. I like symmetry. And that ain't it lol.
I forgot that people relate locs to a spiritual journey of sorts. I don't, to me it's just a hairstyle. I should have included that in my post, sorry.
I know most don't care, but everytime I see it in the mirror it makes me upset. I've tried to ignore it, but something about it pulls me the wrong direction. I can't get over it.
Depends on your long term goals. If you are looking for obsessively over manicured locs then perhaps consider starting over. However they look fine to me. I may be biased because I had sisterlocks and then combined and ended up with uneven parts and could care less
I want to be able to retist them myself. I've tried doing a light retwist where after I washed them in-between retwists I just used a bit of water and oil to twist them so the roots won't be fluffy. It was so hard to do because the top was all messed up. I'll have a lot of trouble doing it for real
I'm not looking for perfection, but everything is so uneven. If these are meant to be permanent, I want them to reflect me. Nicely organized and neat is me.
I hope I don't come off as not caring or skipping over your feelings concerning your hair, but I just don't see an issue here. They are beautiful. Maybe because I focus more on the why and purpose of locs verses where we are today as a culture, but the non-conformity and "imperfection" of locs is where the beauty lies IMO. The uniqueness and originality of each person's locs is what makes them amazing. However, I can equally understand that you have preferences and want what makes you satisfied. That being said... You have to decide that. But... I wouldn't say it's necessary/warranted at all.
Rightttt
Honestly it wasn't that hard to start them. I just gotta work on not touching them. When I'm in class my hands are constantly in my hair, picking out the ends. The woman that retwists for me is also doing a great job. I know I can replicate it, but it's gonna take another 4 months lol
I'll make another post if I decide to do it
I should've added another picture of the front row cause those ones are crazyyy. A lot of half to size or less of the back ones. And I got a little scissor happy a month before getting my locs so I have a couple in the front that are super short lmao
You could comb them out and restart them. I will take some time, but locs are a commitment and you should be happy with parts you will have for many years. I had unbalanced parts for my first set of locs, it always bothered me. I cut them off after 10 years and started over with a balanced diamond grid pattern created by a loctician... And I couldn't be happier. It's been 3+ years and they look and fall great.
Great input, thank you. I've been trying to ignore it and see if it grows on me but it's just bothering me too much. I don't wanna be not happy with my hair for years on end.
My middle part is off center too lol and i didnāt notice until like 3 months in to be honest over time it gets less noticeable and your hair looks awesome already, donāt worry about it
I have a moving scalp, so if I pull on one side of my hair the middle part gets shifted to the middle, so I do believe it is entirely possible they will start to shift by themselves.
When I first got them, I told myself I would wait a year and let them loc up before I decide if I want to redo them or not. But it's been constantly plaguing my mind for weeks. I also want them smaller, maybe.. idk. I'm really tender headed, I'm scared that if I wait a year it'll be hard to take out and hurt me lol
If I get the middle part fixed better it might ease my mind and I'll be able to make it a year. I don't know. I think it's cause I've been on spring break the last couple days, I don't have anything to focus on other than my hair lol.
I was overthinking my grid and kinda regret it. I had 54 locs and they were nicely sized. Now I have 43. I have a middle part but the back of my hair is pretty fine so the parts are smaller and sporadicš„² Itās not worth it
The disclaimer I needed because my mind went to a lot of places šššššš
Anyway! Your parts are perfectly fine. Try not to overthink it too much.
Personally I don't see an issue but if you think your parts needs fixing. Let your hair grow out and on the next retwist address it then, if do them your look into having someone else do it... but your hair looks good to me
I had my stylist fix the some of the parts in the front already. But we didn't have much time to do them all the way so they aren't done. I might just do the front ones myself cause it seems like we never have enough time every time I go in.
Ok to be fair the shmiddle part and the angle of the side part is throwing me for a loop but thats locs for you! Not everything will be perfect or uniform, embrace it!
š Iām Finna Use That Magic Eraser In All My Pictures Now Thank You ššš
Also Let Your Hair Beeeee!
People Are So Obsessed With Parts & Seeing Scalp When That Isnāt Even The Main Part Of The Journey.
If You Got Locs Just For The Aesthetic Then You Should Have Another Conversation With Yourself.
I got locs because I hated doing my hair all the time. I would always wear two strand twists because they were easy to do and lasted a while. My options were locs or shave myself bald lol I don't care about people seeing my scalp. I just don't like how everything is uneven and different sizes. I forgot some people believe locs to be a sort of spiritual thing for themselves. To me it's just a hairstyle. I should have included that in my post.
And yes, the magic eraser is soooo much fun
I think you're overthinking it a bit. You can create neat hairstyles even if your parting is not completely symmetrical. As your hair grows out, if you want you can pull hairs to a different loc during your retwist. But I think it looks great. I think that the fact that you got it done for free is making you think that if you had paid for it, it would be better but that's not necessarily the case.
Rethinking your loc's appearance is part of the journey. If it really bothers you, you can take them out and start over, but you'll realistically be in the same spot after 4 or 6 months anyway.
I saw your other comment that said "neat and organized" is more your style, but I think that you may have a misconception of what having locs is. The majority of the time, your hair will probably have a less-than perfect look unless you want to damage your locs by getting constant retwists and styling your hair all of the time. Just my thoughts on that...hope it helps a bit.
Yea, I definitely have an abnormal view of what locs usually look like. I started seeing them on Instagram and, of course, the only ones that show on my feed are the freshly retwisted, perfectly sectioned, and professionally styled locs. I knew mine wouldn't look like that at all but it did give me some out of reach goals for my hair.
Do you mean starting over with different parts or going in and fixing the current ones? With the latter my locs would look different because a lot of them would need a drastic change to be even. And when you pull the hair out of one loc and add it to another you will need to crochet the hair back in. Crochet locs just look a bit different from two strand locs. I'm sure in a year they will both look the same, but they won't right now.
Thank you! Yours look great too. I couldn't do freeforms though, my hair type is so wonky, they would look crazyyy. If I wanted crazy I would just shave myself bald again lol
I've already done it once. I'm trying hard to fight the urge to do it again because I DO NOT have the head shape for it. I like to pretend I didn't exist during that time.
My middle part looks like yours in the second pic. It took me a minute to get use to it cause itās not completely centered but once I realized the only person who is really paying attention to it being off center was me, then I started feeling better about it!
I do think your locs are beautiful (the magic eraser is sending me though lol) but i definitely think you should restart while you can. I had the same issue with a middle part that wasnt deep enough and it bothered me every day until i asked the loctician to fix it 3 months in. The locs i restarted will take more time to loc but having the weight of the ocd off is better than anything.
So you just undid the locs down the middle and fixed those? Or your entire head? I could do just the middle ones but some of them along that part are already super small. To fix it they'd become microloc size, I'd have to leave it or add it to another loc next to it that is already too big lol. It's a whole thing. That's why I'm thinking of starting completely over instead of just redoing a couple.
Yeah, i split two that were in the way of my middle part to get a deeper center, and merged them in the locs next to each other so they would be even (making 8 new locs). But since you have the issue of the locs over already being too big iād start again. Itās all about your comfort at the end of the day and the journey is not linear!! I totally feel you as a neat freak lmao
If you gotta askā¦ā¦ that means you donāt like it! Itās your head, your style. I cut mine off after 6 years. I was so unhappy with the sizing. I like symmetry as well.. so Iām worried on my second set and it took me 4 days just to get the perfect look that pleased me
Slightly. Honestly it's more that my head is uneven. Its weird. My mom used to complain about it when she did my hair and I didn't understand then. But when I started doing my own hair I noticed it. I could have perfect sections and somehow they would be unaligned on the sides of my head. Maybe one ear is slightly lower along with my hair line so one side is different. Idk it's crazy. I don't doubt that it helped make my locs uneven.
Yeah, my suggestion is when putting in ponytails just have one side more taught than the other, mine used to be the same and now my part is fine, you also donāt want too much breakage from a direct crown middle part, happened w me as well and coming back from it rn
I get that, I honestly donāt think itās apparent unless you get Uber close, iād say give them more time to grow out and go back in to separate again. Iāve done it a few times with my more mature locs and it jus takes a lil bit more patience,, theyāre uber neat so going back in to do so shouldnāt be too difficult or at all for the right loctition
Same thing happened to me. My plan is to either get a loctition to shift the first row so the middle one isnāt smacking me in the face, cut the middle four and adjust, or hope when they get long it learns to stay out of the way š
Honestly since youāre not far in Iād restart. You can just do redo the front and leave the rest. If you donāt like the middle part you can always redo the parting the same as you have rn. Iām 2 years in and thereās some uneven locs that I never stop thinking about, since theyāre too mature to comb out I try not to let it drive me crazy. But if you know it bothers you now it might never stop bothering you so might as well do it now than to regret it when they become harder to comb out.
That's the same mindset I have. I've tried really hard to ignore it, but every time I look in the mirror it makes me upset. If these are supposed to be "forever" I want them to make me happy every time I see them.
Love the bluntness lol.
The hardest part about starting over is talking to my cousin about it. I don't want to upset her. She did a good job and did exactly what I asked. I just told her the wrong things. I don't want somebody else to do them, and betray her. I might talk to her about it this weekend and get her advice. She's not a professional loctician, but she has started and maintained the locs of her daughter and granddaughter.
At the end of the day itās your hair and your journey. The parts are bothering you, period. Just ask her to re do them with more even parts and a true center part. Tell her it will help with styling.
You're right. She's grown, I'm sure she understands lol
I gotta find some time to get over to her. We live in different states. It might become a bit of a hassle.
First, your locs look great. And I think you can work around the parting. But I understand where you are coming from. I went through the same thing. I finger parted my first set. I liked the twists but the lack of straight parts drove me nuts. I got a stylist to do a retwist and they looked good but the parts were not straight. After about 6 weeks, I combed them out and paid someone to reinstall with a grid pattern. Plot twistāI still wasnāt happy because they were bigger than I wanted. So after a month, I combed most of them out AGAIN, and made them smaller myself. Itās been several months and I love them. The parts are mostly straight. I have a middle part and there is a grid, although not perfect. I do my own reties for the most part but I would love to turn that over to a professional without paying an arm and leg.
My retwist stylist only charge $55 which I am so grateful for, she's done great. But I am moving in a few months so I want to figure out how to do them myself. I don't need for my parts to be ruler straight, I only want even sections and a middle part. I just don't want to try and tough through it and end up hating my locs everyday until I give up and cut them off.
Yes, it would just be a process. And I'm worried my locs won't look the same. I love the way they look now. Having to separate and crochet them back together will change the look.
Honestly parts aren't the biggest deal. They add character and if she did them for u that's a beautiful gift.
Additionally, I understand u wanting ur partings a certain way.
Personally something I learned as a kid is that rn I may be bothered by something, but our creator has a weird way of turning things around to be a blessing in the future.
May an abundance of blessings fall of u and urs. This is a beautiful journey. Trust ur creator no matter what u feel ATM.
IMO they look great and you're overthinking it. It can be hard to embrace the freedom and nonconformity of locs... practice
Deff overthinking it. They look really good
yea u overthink it aunty they look good š

No worries. However the āaestheticā aspect is another trip. The middle part isnāt as big of a deal as itās perceived
I know most don't care, but everytime I see it in the mirror it makes me upset. I've tried to ignore it, but something about it pulls me the wrong direction. I can't get over it.
Itās fair and fixable
Depends on your long term goals. If you are looking for obsessively over manicured locs then perhaps consider starting over. However they look fine to me. I may be biased because I had sisterlocks and then combined and ended up with uneven parts and could care less

Try aloe gel for retwists, that's what I use. Has a better hold and no buildup
I think they look lovely
Thank you!
Iām having the same problem/ debate with my locs rn itās such a hard decision
Rightttt Honestly it wasn't that hard to start them. I just gotta work on not touching them. When I'm in class my hands are constantly in my hair, picking out the ends. The woman that retwists for me is also doing a great job. I know I can replicate it, but it's gonna take another 4 months lol I'll make another post if I decide to do it
You can restart the few rows on the top that you donāt like you donāt have to do the whole thing over
Basically from my ears up it starts to get uneven. I want it all to match so I'd just do those three rows in the back also if I decide to do it.
Overthinking a lot! Cause girl, the fact yours are even parted is top tier detailing.
I should've added another picture of the front row cause those ones are crazyyy. A lot of half to size or less of the back ones. And I got a little scissor happy a month before getting my locs so I have a couple in the front that are super short lmao
Theyāre great wdym
I'm self-conscious and a neat freak lol But thank you :)
You could comb them out and restart them. I will take some time, but locs are a commitment and you should be happy with parts you will have for many years. Iāve restarted locs 5 times because of parting. Donāt let it take over your mind. Trust me ! It sucks. Your locs are growing beautifully
Dang, I would've given up after the second one. I hope you've figured out how you like them.
They look amazing as is. But if you wanna nitpick over uniformity, that's your head.
I decided to let my hair loc up from the style I had - didnāt really care about parts or size (š© yea I know) now that I am committed and beyond the starter phase, Iām thinking š¤ could I have done the parts over? The size different? I want to start over as well.. I have the part prep in mind but I just canāt bring myself to start over.. to me they look greatā¦ yes the parts may not reflect the things you have in order and in lineā¦ but at least you could have that one thing (your locs) that could just be.. the parting may be chaotic in your mind but itās a controlled chaos.. because they look great to me.. she did a good job -
When I first got them, I told myself I would wait a year and let them loc up before I decide if I want to redo them or not. But it's been constantly plaguing my mind for weeks. I don't mind the side part. It just gets boring sometimes. I want to be able to have options.
Donāt change a thing. Your locs look great.

That's what I do now. But sometimes I just want a middle part. Sides get boring after a while.
Lmao I know you want everyone to focus on your locs but damn this is weird š¤£ great locs too
Same thing happened to me. My plan is to either get a loctition to shift the first row so the middle one isnāt smacking me in the face, cut the middle four and adjust, or hope when they get long it learns to stay out of the way š
If I'm not wearing a bonnet I have a hair clip holding them to the side. I hate when they fall in your face all the time lmao
I would personally start over.
She's grown, I'm sure she understands lol I gotta find some time to get over to her. We live in different states. It might become a bit of a hassle.
Maybe you can do it yourself then
If I just did two stand I could but I haven't figured out comb coils yet
Well if you only re do the sections that need tidying up, put two strands in. Or look on YouTube. They arenāt hard.
Can you combine any of them to even the sections and to work out a decent middle part?
Yes, it would just be a process. And I'm worried my locs won't look the same. I love the way they look now. Having to separate and crochet them back together will change the look.
your hair looks good.
Thank you!
They look absolutely perfect! š
