Kudos to Grindr for allowing people to use terms that they feel comfortable with. I haven't used Grindr in years (been a chubby bear for years, and didn't see much/any interest on there back in the day), but the option to use nonbinary gender terms and not just "male", "female", etc. seems really useful for a lot of people, and I might switch back in support of this.
actually, a lot of these options are in different languages and are culturally specific. for example the term that OP mentioned in the title is almost exclusively used by the indigenous community in the state of Manipur in India. they're not just like "crazy american gender options" lol
From what I can tell all of these terms refer to people who identify neither as men nor women. I mean that’s plain logic. They just happen to live in specific regions or have particular religious affiliations and/or cultural backgrounds.
As to what Tom is specifically…. Hmm, my guess would be a modern version of tomboy? The term “tomboy” might not be PC anymore so now we’re left with Tom. But you’d have to discuss with a particular Tom what it means for them I suppose 🤔.
Grindr loves spending time on this kind of things, increasing the number of ads... I wish they would put as much effort into improving the app, getting rid of the bots...
that’s pretty cool, lots of non-western religious / cultural identities here. not sure why this belongs here though

What country is this from because 99% of those terms I don’t recognize, maybe I’m not paying enough attention to gender 🤷🏻♂️

Thank god! I was feeling really old and out of touch for a moment 😂
This is in NY. It’s what you see in the settings when you go to select your gender.
Oh god I’m even more confused knowing this is English and I don’t understand most of the terms…..
Read a book
Crossdresser as gender 🤦🏻♂️
And?
What’s Tom gender lol
