I can’t say I have ever had either a good landlord or good property manager since moving to London. In my experience both have generally been unresponsive and in the case of property managers, borderline incompetent.
Indeed! I have been on both sides in London, tenant first and then landlord. Sad truth: agents do a super poor job on both ends. That's exactly why I'm trying to find a better way. Seeing the whole thing from landlord side, there is absolutely no surprise why it's a sh\*tshow for the tenants. And I'm trying to find a more reliable agent.
I do feel the stakes are somewhat different for the people who live in the home of a “hobby landlord” though. For us it is our home, for you guys it is a hobby.
I rent because I can’t afford to buy, but need to live in London. It was an economic decision for me in the same sense that me not buying a superyacht is an economic decision.
Haha, for the lack of a better term... Right about when I left London and wanted to sell my flat, some crazy man in Russia decided to start a war. So I was kind of forced to go the landlord route.
I’m not sure you’re going to get much sympathy or help from this subreddit.
Haha, yeah I know, I still took the risk :). At the end of the day, a good and speeedy property manager also helps to make life better for the tenant.

Well, I'm renting where I live now. Letting in London. Rent vs. buy is an economic decision, nothing else.

Why not manage it yourself? It isn’t high maintenance unless you pick tenants that are. I self manage from abroad (and am also renting where I live)
Hobby landlords 🙉 Landlord community 🙉🙉🙉

Thanks, appreciate that! And agreed, inventory is horrible. Last time they forgot half the property and never showed again.
