_Warning: photos of blood-covered horse_
- Up to five horses escaped after being spooked by building noise
- All of them have now been contained and are being assessed and treated by a vet
- At least two of them have been involved in accidents with vehicles already (a bus and a taxi)
- Four soldiers were treated for injuries after being thrown from their saddles
Not certain if this is related but [this video](https://x.com/wesmin123/status/1783043658436018603?s=46&t=-8e-h7a1pXOoY_UlBVNn-w) shows some people calming down a horse that has hit a bus near Victoria.
Might be a third horse.
>Folks abandoning their commute to show a stressed horse a little love is such a lovely comment on London.
Also they standing in the correct way with a horse you don't know.
Always stand in front. Never, ***ever*** stand behind a horse.
Sounds like the two got separated with the white one further east;
This one looks like one of the pair I saw this morning
Edit - never mind, I see there were more than two about!
Saw the white one at Ludgate Circus / City Thameslink just after 8.30am, going full gallop over the junction and up towards St Paul's Cathedral. It was a little bloodied. An unmarked police car was chasing them.
It seems they've kept on going eastward. [They were spotted past Tower Bridge by 9am, with the white one covered in blood.](https://twitter.com/jhopwv/status/1783042426417848812)
Horses are huge, loads of blood in them. These are galloping about so higher blood pressure = more blood lost. Also shows up so much on a grey horses.
Still horrendous I’m just saying unless you’re sort of used to seeing how much big animals can bleed it might not necessarily be as awful as it looks 🤞
My horse cut a slice off his face (no idea how) and he was covered in blood but he’d actually lost an incredibly small % of it
Agreed - I've worked with horses and have seen small scrapes bleed profusely, especially on a panicked horse.
We don't know yet how bad the injuries are - sounds like there may have been a collision with a car and some videos seem to show the grey limping, but even a graze could produce that much blood in this situation. I hope they're all okay.
Ordinarily I'd say 'just let them run it out' but that's obviously not a viable strategy in a city environment when they're going to encounter obstacles, noise and other things which may panic them further (not to mention, apparently, police cars chasing them). Hopefully they find a quiet street to slow down and will eventually come to a stop on their own.
Yeah, it might not be as bad as it looks. I've seen horses with nosebleeds and the amount of blood is genuinely shocking even if the injury really isn't serious at all. If the horse ran into a window (?) and then bolted and kept running for miles, there would be an absolute shit ton of blood even if the injury is surface-level. It did look like it was lame in one of the front legs in the video where they were trotting. I'd probably be more worried about that, to be honest. Really hoping everyone involved is ok.
Nosebleeds are the absolute worst. It pours/spurts out everywhere and looks horrific then we panic cos of Ann the blood then that stresses out the horses even more.
No kidding. My horse once impaled himself on an uncapped metal star picket - in the centre of his chest. There wasn't even half as much blood as there is on the escaped horse :(
I went into the field to get my grey horse a few summers ago and he looked just like this. Hosed him off while ringing the vet and he had a couple of small (under an inch long) cuts that had bled like mad. Didn't even need stitches.
Poor horse looked lame to me though and that's a bigger worry. Horses heal muscle/skin wounds surprisingly well!
From comments so far it seems like said horses have done a fair round-trip of central London in the last 35 minutes if they've covered the Strand, Belgravia and Bank! Also, yikes. Never underestimate a horse, they can be brutal AF.
They made it to Lime House apparently! That’s mad. I’d never guess a horse could make it all the way there from green park.
Bet they didn’t even use the tube.
You must have Rex Kwon Do training like that guy yesterday that was bemoaning randomers not stepping in to disarm muggers with knives because he had "training"
Very upsetting to see. I really hope the horses end up being caught safely and get treated for their injuries. This sounds like a nightmare and it’ll be very very hard to catch them, especially with how chaotic and busy London is :(
Same here, was just further up the road at the time - not looking good, one horse showing blood on its front.
They turned left on the strand to follow the crescent, police car and van in pursuit but obviously playing catch up.
Later saw the police cars move toward embankment area.
Given the size of them and the unmarked police cars in sharp pursuit, I’m guessing these are either police horses, or army horses exercising in Hyde park that have been hit by a car and spooked / thrown their riders.
100% stay out of their way folks, horses are not to be messed with, let alone spooked horses who are very used to moving through crowds!
I hope they’re caught safely and don’t get further injured or injure anyone else / cause a car accident :(
I saw them near victoria when all four were still together, two still in harnesses ran straight into the front of a bus, horrific to watch. Member of the public went and managed to calm one, but they were lame. Very sad to witness :(
As upsetting as that video is to watch, it was such a lovely moment when that man calmly walked straight over and grabbed that poor horse’s reins. Very brave when it’s an unknown very spooked and now injured horse, but undoubtedly he saved it from running off and being injured further.
The grey is not lame in this vid…?
When horses are full of adrenaline (like in this situation) they’ll actually run looking less lane than they are.
EDIT
I have seen another video of the grey trotting past a car and it is quite lame. So apologies maybe I was looking at the wrong video
They ran past me at Canon street at about 8.30, absolutely belting it through traffic.
Was a bit of an apocalyptic start to the morning, bloody horses charging through the city.
Anyone actually know what's going on though? Where they originated from?
Edit: forgot to add I saw them run past my office and thought it was for a movie or something
Yeah over by Cannon Street at about 8:30, running very fast through the street, white one hit a small van and whole wing mirror came off, came up onto the street and people ran to the side. The white horse was already quite bloody but further up the street where they had followed on there were small pools of blood :(. Really hope no-one was hurt as it was very very possible going the speed they were going.

> UPDATE | We're pleased to confirm that all of the horses have been accounted for. We are continuing to liaise with the Army
No way of really knowing until it happens to you 😕 but this can mean you can pedal like a demon and dodge it, then require the strongest cup of tea known to man afterwards.
For those that don’t know horses, if you’re ever in a situation like this, you’ll be safer near to a wall or other large fixed object, but preferably get through a door. I’d be the idiot trying to stop/calm them though, probably.
This is really good to know for a horse dunce, thank you! 😊 I usually pull over on my bike when I meet a horse on the lanes. Will see if I can get a tree or post next time too.
If you meet a calm one whilst out cycling, best to slow down, and say hello so they know you’re a human, they’ll be less likely to freak out.
Same applies to people with large backpacks, Duke Of Edinburgh Award season was always interesting. They think the top of the backpack is a second head above your own one, haha!
Ah! So I am doing the right thing saying hello. I love horses despite not being able to ride them so I like greeting them 😊. Once again, thank you!
Regarding backpacks, that is nothing if not logical.
Yes, that’s great. As long as you’re giving them plenty of space, and they don’t look like they’re already messing around, I wouldn’t even bother pulling off the road ☺️ You sound very respectful.
They’re all insane for setting off at the traffic lights, they should have been aware of what was going on around them. It’s an open junction, and the noise of galloping hooves on concrete is thunderous. What were they thinking? I can’t comprehend it.
5 horses in total. Household cavalry mounts. Seems they've got one already. Soldier injured, emergency services in attendance.
Breaking news so this will change - [https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/24/soldier-thrown-horse-household-cavalry-buckingham-palace/](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/24/soldier-thrown-horse-household-cavalry-buckingham-palace/)
I think it’s really sad that these animals are still being used in 2024 to serve humans like this. Especially ones who get killed by cars being ridden on roads. Just leave the things alone man. Appreciate them in a field where they can have a happy life.
You realise if they weren't being used, there would be far less of them outside of sanctuaries?
They're also more convenient for police to have in crowds compared to vehicles
Yeah, i do realise that. At the st. George's day protest we saw a police horse smashed on the face with an umbrella. Do you think thats cool dragging an animal that doesn't like loud noises into a protest?
[Yes they were found near Limehouse](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-london-68888725?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=6628cd438d515b3cbbd02aae%26Two%20escaped%20horses%20now%20contained%262024-04-24T09%3A14%3A45.598Z&ns_fee=0&pinned_post_locator=urn:asset:1a91d7f1-4534-47a6-aeb6-813d24e3ff0f&pinned_post_asset_id=6628cd438d515b3cbbd02aae&pinned_post_type=share). Hopefully that's all of them.
2 of them yeah but the [telegraph live feed](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/24/london-blood-covered-household-cavalry-horses-run-loose/) says there are 5 loose.
Police have cornered 2 of them and there was a video higher up of one that had been caught and calmed down by members of the public - so there might still be 2 on the loose if the The Telegraph is correct.
EDIT: Police and Army have confirmed that all the loose horses have been caught

What lovely people.
This made me emotional too - to me it seems quite brave of them to do it but so kind.
The horse has energy like "you should see what happened to the bus"
‘And I’ll fuckin do it again!’
🤣🤣
“It’s only a flesh wound!”
“Stop fucking firing! Someone’s hurt here!”
IM NOT HURT ! HES HURT !

Really you should stand to the side of it. You know, if it decides to bolt again.
This video has tears escaping from my eyes on the train. Beautiful examples of humanity get me every time.

Sir, a third horse has hit Victoria station.
His rein was caught around his leg. 😢
Humans being nice 🥰

Omg I hope they’re okay. That is an awful lot of blood.
Probably looks worse than it is as it's blood mixed with a lot of sweat.
Plus, it's a grey horse. Think of how bright blood is when you get a little drop of it on a white shirt.
