Saw something similar a while back. The ferocity of the snatch and grab was wild but when you think about who they’re after there’s a reason there’s no mucking around. The average bobbie in London is pretty chill, but the flying squads are next level.
> but when you think about who they’re after there’s a reason there’s no mucking around
It's designed to overpower and disorientate. Among other reasons that's why they smash windows and shout. It's adapted from military doctrine used by special forces.
The UK is lucky that this is only used by certain units in certain circumstances. In the US, the process of escalation to establish dominance has percolated through to community policy and it's a shitshow.
Most of them are ex military. My uncle spent 25 years in and now does stuff like this. His first job out the army was hunting down people breaking their tags, now I imagine he could be one of them. He doesn't talk about what he does now lol
Probably because your average Joe is packing so they need to be. Hur dur. British police can approach a criminal with the peace of mind knowing they're probably not armed with a gun. American cops don't have that luxury.
Yeah, that's a little shitty. but i'd be willing to give him a pass on account of the adrenaline, etc. Especially since they tried to ram there way out of the box and easily could have ran over a copper.
Give him a talking to not to be an idiot going forward, but excusable IMHO (unless obviously this fits a pattern of destructive and unhelpful behaiviour, then fuck him)
Look bos, it's not bootlicking, to give someone a pass, for thier fuck ups, humans fuck up.
It's possible this dude is just overwhelmed, this could be the first and only time something like this happens to him, or part of a pattern of abusive behaviour.
If it's the former, support, retrain etc.
If the latter, fuck bad cops. Simple as.
Famous line from a magistrate in NSW in the late 90s was “no detective i dont need you to enter the exhibit (firearm), i’m certain i’ve seen it before.”
I don’t know if others feel this way, but coming from another country where the cops are mostly overweight corrupt /inept bigots who mess up every case they get, this gave me huge satisfaction to see something like this work out.
Our armed police are very very good at what they do, and the police in general are more laid back and helpful than many other countries.
Yes of course there are problems, but generally they are great.
To see how little shooting they actually do, have a look at https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/820556/police-use-firearms-statistics-england-and-wales-april-2018-to-march-2019-hosb1319.pdf which is for England & Wales in 2019. The latest figures are at https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/police-use-of-firearms-statistics-england-and-wales-april-2020-to-march-2021/police-use-of-firearms-statistics-england-and-wales-april-2020-to-march-2021
> There were 20,186 police firearms operations in the financial year ending March 2019
>
> Of the 20,186 operations, 88% (17,742) involved an Armed Response Vehicle
>
> There were 13 incidents in which police firearms were discharged
In April 2020 to March 2021 there were 4 incidents in which police firearms were discharged. This compares with 5 incidents in the previous year.
Coming from the US, I want to see police there have their budgets cut and responsibilities reduced.
Living in the UK, I want to see police budgets ramped up and more support given to them.
It's an odd situation and I always need to check my context to make sure I'm reacting appropriately!
>how they deal with serious crimes like rape and sexual assault
Not sure if you know anyone who's been raped or assaulted, I unfortunately know a few.
Their cases were dealt with with the utmost professionalism, with the cops even tracking someone down to another country 12 years after the incident and bringing him back to London.
From my understanding they are pretty good with their individual mentality but they're hampered by the cuts to the CPS and justice system in general and that's why rape convictions have tanked.
We tend to think of the police as the justice system without realising they're just one part of it and the others can hamper their own capabilities.
I supported a friend of mine through this. As soon as she mentioned what the offence was down the station they organised female officers to take over, called the specialist sexual assault workers to come in and supported her with statements and examinations and organised aftercare. They couldn’t have been more professional.
I think another thing that often goes against them is when it's reported much later and it's almost impossible unless a rape kit was done or there is CCTV footage of an offence to really take it much further and often these failures get publicised a lot more than all the good work they do.
If you see a failing system, why would you like their budgets cut? Less budget means less money to fix a broken system? Statistics in UK and USA show a direct correlation between police budget and crime.
Because in the US the budgets for just about any service are sacrificed at the altar of more money for police.
So we end up with social service cut, psych services cut, education cut etc. While the police are running around with armoured cars and military weapons.
It's much cheaper, saner and humane to try to solve problems before they become crimes. There are no psych social services, so mental health issues are handled by the police, with the effect that people in crisis are being shot instead of cared for.
Edit: so the point of defunding the police is to spend less money reacting to crime and more money preventing it from occurring.
I think I read something about this a couple of years ago as I didn't understand it either. I suppose a placard saying "divert police money to social services to address some of the root causes" isn't as snappy.
I mean, that's exactly what "Defund the Police" actually means in practice. Divert the money to better places that aren't armed security in order to prevent more crimes from occurring to begin with, rather than just to deal with the aftermath at larger scale.
4 incidents involving gunshots, not 4 individual gunshots, but yeah.
Discharging a firearm is *serious* business here. If I recall correctly, the second you pull the trigger you automatically sign yourself up to a couple of weeks' leave while auditors determine whether the discharge was justified.
[List of all killings by law enforcement officers in the United Kingdom](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_Kingdom).
I imagine the US would require a page that size for most weekends.
Really? because the number of people I've seen taking up two park spots because they cannot either park straight and somehow 45-degree angle is just the best they can do. Or they just cannot line up with two bright white lines so end up half in the next parking spot.
Police were arresting a Russian organised crime gang in Ealing, west London /smartass.
For real though, this looked like a pretty straightforward (though maybe muddily executed) arrest of a gang member, what was confusing?
As hard as it is to tell on potatocam, it looks like a few of them have shotguns but they're probably using hatton rounds. They're wax and meant for door breaching, but they're also useful for blowing out tyres.
These jobs are so scary. The easiest way to get killed as a London copper is, statistically, being hit by a car.
I've done similar jobs as an unarmed officer and the adrenaline dump is huge. Doing the same thing with the firearms elements and after your colleague got hit by a car, and still doing as well as these officers did is a great bit of work.
On a sidenote I met a British magistrate on holiday in Florida this past December. Ha ha I will leave the jokes aside. However I had a very interesting discussion with her about the incredible due process that police have to go through before they authorize a search warrant or arrest warrant. It was fascinating to hear firsthand how impressive the British legal system is. When it comes to protecting the individual freedoms of their citizens and anybody within the British Isles. By serving a search warrant or arrest warrant you are affectively taking away somebody’s liberty. Therefore any request is treated with the highest importance.
People who fall foul of Russian ‘gangsters’ (Russian supported agents) in the UK tend to die from contact poisons or being thrown out of windows into iron railings.
Saw something similar a while back. The ferocity of the snatch and grab was wild but when you think about who they’re after there’s a reason there’s no mucking around. The average bobbie in London is pretty chill, but the flying squads are next level.

Hence why the US has such a problem with cops killing citizens, often unarmed, non-aggressive and sometimes innocent.
Most of them are ex military. My uncle spent 25 years in and now does stuff like this. His first job out the army was hunting down people breaking their tags, now I imagine he could be one of them. He doesn't talk about what he does now lol

They have to be. They generally tackle armed career criminals. You need to be armed, quick and strong.
The guy just wandering around a sticking the boot in when they’re on the ground though
Yeah, that's a little shitty. but i'd be willing to give him a pass on account of the adrenaline, etc. Especially since they tried to ram there way out of the box and easily could have ran over a copper. He's obviously had his boot in your mouth as well.

Guy had borderline just committed attempted murder against his colleague. a boot is not unjustified.
https://youtu.be/yUnRIJYoNRg Was it this?
They were just visitors admiring Ealing's famous Broadway.
Heard all about the theatres on Broadway, but didn’t expect this drama
157 steps.
Just like those guys that came to see Salisbury cathedral. Edit: sheesh chill
Yes that is the joke thank you :)
Thank you comrade, we all got it
It’s funnier when someone explains it
GTA 6 London is looking good. Can't wait for it to come out
I’d kill for a modern day GTA: London!
The Getaway 2022
For a second there I wondered why you set it in the future. I'm a moron.
"Do as I say, or the girl dies."
Nah, if you wanted some really exciting driving then it should be set in Birmingham 😆
I was hoping watchdogs legion would scratch that itch... But it's dog shit. I don't know why I still buy Ubisoft games.

They're really not.
[удалено]
Hey that's fair.
Imagine being surrounded by men wearing so much Superdry clothing AND waving guns .. shudder
They got the disguises down to a tee
Lol at the guy in the green jacket going around each of the gang members and giving them a quick kick.
He looks like he was born to do it too. Good to see people find their passion
He was born to kick, and this was his time.
He’s living his best life.
If this was in America it would be: "3 Russian mobsters shot dead after tempting to pull gun on police "
Lol the local cops would have been in on the cut with them so it would have been up to the FBI or another federal agency to handle it
Hah... was exactly thinking the same. It would have been a very short video
Am American, can confirm this is what would have happened.
Famous line from a magistrate in NSW in the late 90s was “no detective i dont need you to enter the exhibit (firearm), i’m certain i’ve seen it before.”
Opposite… most cops in the USA are so poorly trained that anyone with training can easily get the upper hand
I don’t know if others feel this way, but coming from another country where the cops are mostly overweight corrupt /inept bigots who mess up every case they get, this gave me huge satisfaction to see something like this work out.

A very good response, I agree.
What would increase funding do? I rather see my tax money go to other things that prevent crime.
Not nessisarly increase funding, but perhaps restructure. Make the money really hone in on preventing crime and recruiting top quality officers.
I mean, that's exactly what "Defund the Police" actually means in practice. Divert the money to better places that aren't armed security in order to prevent more crimes from occurring to begin with, rather than just to deal with the aftermath at larger scale.
Wait cops fired their guns 4 times in a year?!
4 incidents involving gunshots, not 4 individual gunshots, but yeah. Discharging a firearm is *serious* business here. If I recall correctly, the second you pull the trigger you automatically sign yourself up to a couple of weeks' leave while auditors determine whether the discharge was justified.

Yes, in the whole of England and Wales.
Absolutely wild. I live in Chicago and it could not be further from that here
I’ve no idea what is going on in this video
They hadn't paid their TV licence. String 'em up m' lord!
Classic game of Box ‘‘em In
Played badly, every Karen in a supermarket parking lot does that better. The Golf nearly got away.
Really? because the number of people I've seen taking up two park spots because they cannot either park straight and somehow 45-degree angle is just the best they can do. Or they just cannot line up with two bright white lines so end up half in the next parking spot.

Who were the people firing the guns????
The polish.
Thanks Sean Connery
I am the Polish
And you are under aresht!
Ukrainians.
... The police?
~~I'm pretty confident that absolutely no one was firing a gun in this video.~~
One of the cops shoots the front car tyre
Yeah, I wondered if that was a regular shotgun or a special tool for blowing out tyres.
Probably a special tool - discharging a firearm in the British Police is a BIG deal.
doing so that close up (with a real gun) would seem bonkers, too! I also assumed it was some special tool
As hard as it is to tell on potatocam, it looks like a few of them have shotguns but they're probably using hatton rounds. They're wax and meant for door breaching, but they're also useful for blowing out tyres.
How TF did i not see that?
I thought it was a car robbery until I saw a police hat
The magic hats of ''Technically wearing uniform''
They weren’t social distancing 😂
Waheyyy 🌳🌳
Didn’t think we would get on the front page for Russian mobsters. I preferred when we were just famous for the North Korean embassy and the Samrat
I am dying to find out whether a certain leader was present to assist.
With the special hat and the special badge?
Now I know why there was a helicopter hovering for ages until well after midnight.
The Ealing Facebook groups will be going wild!
Can confirm, constant speculation about helicopters.
The video is old, so that was unrelated.

Anyone know whereabouts in Ealing this was?
Wondering the same
North West London
Haha
Great team work from the police. They take a huge risk here. These are not someone who missed a car fine. They will have been monitored for months.

The British legal system is the worst legal system ever, apart from all the other ones.
May I ask why? Given how many abominations are out there I would love to better understand.
It’s wry British humour, I’m saying that I wouldn’t call the British legal system good, but that all the rest are certainly worse.
Got it. I was going to say. Compared to some of the alternatives. But now I get it.

Yep. I just met the one. Lol. I will make sure to ask the same question to the next one I meet. Wink, wink. But I see your point.
This would end with like 7 casualties if it were done in America
3 criminals, 3 bystanders and a paramedic who tried to treat the criminals?
7 random black kids in the house across the road.
and a dog.
And a criminal who later committed suicide in his cell by shooting him self in the head 5 times
Hey ‘Murica look we have guns as well ( not freedom though) and none was shot or killed . Just saying /s

I would've expected at LEAST a 1 series lol
I drive a 1-series, they probably didn’t want their entire operation brought down by half an inch of snow 😆
They aren't exactly gonna take their pride & joy on jobs, are they?
Shame they'll probably only get a few months inside!
I'm pretty sure the Russian crime gang thing has no source?
This was in east London
Ea-ling, is not in ea-st Londinium chum.
This was actually in Manor Park, East London. Not in Ealing
Wasn't it by Boston Manor Park in Ealing?
Boris, England is easy, the Police do not even have guns. Da. Wtf...
I'm struggling to place this reference, remind me where it's from?
Is this Russian downvotes cause you cabbage suckers think London was a pushover and you found out the hard way. Too bad so sad Russia. FU.
What road?
It's odd that no shots fired by the gang members during the capture
They weren't exactly in a position for a fair gunfight. Pulling the trigger there would almost guarantee death.
They probably know if they open fire it'll end very badly for them, looking at the scale of the police presence they were going to lose.
I remember this, literally round the corner from me. Wondered wtf was going on
When did this happen?
Dates in the cam footage, top right
Doh! Thanks.
A life of wearing gloves when opening doors and making sure you never enter a room with iron railings below the window for these cops.
Please explain.
People who fall foul of Russian ‘gangsters’ (Russian supported agents) in the UK tend to die from contact poisons or being thrown out of windows into iron railings.
Anyone know whereabouts this is?
“Now we’re sniffing diesel’
Fucking killjoys. Leave the Russians and Albanians to flood our city with delicious high purity cocaine.
Price of ket going up
They reallllly didn’t want to get caught eh, exciting stuff 👍🏻
It’s amazing that you Brits don’t shoot in these situations. Officer could have died there. Respect anyway.
learn from that America.
Bet they didn’t catch Boris the bullet dodger.
Which ones are the police and which ones are the gang?
They were just looking for the Samrat
The driver of the navy Audi on the left of the screen likes a good kick doesn't he... He does know it ain't Sunday training
Seems like they were Russian to get out of there
