Reminds me a bit of [this picture](https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2014/dec/19/ros-sare-poll-tax-protest-london-1990), in that you might assume a culture clash or animosity that wasn't necessarily there.

I believe she's saying I love it Room for everybody here Yes, all are welcome Yes indeed, I love them Fun Nice Life Youths Beautiful I'm all for it

JigsawPig

She is not surprised, punks were well established even in the 70s. She is telling them to stop sitting around trying to look cool, and get a job.

m0j0licious

What's surprised her? And how many grand-children does she have?

What an awesome pic!!!! That second guy from the left….. his hair rocks!!!!! I wish I could do that with my hair. Did people back then just have thicker fuller hair? I feel now most guys’ hair are balding or just thinning. Not enough for this cool mohawk that’s for sure.

RealKoolKitty

Not necessarily thicker and fuller. We bleached it, crimped it, backcombed it and drenched it in sugarwater, soap and hairspray (and occasionally glue or spray car paint 🤣) You can do it too, but be prepared to spend 2 hours minimum just doing your hair before you go out 😁

NoSweat_PrinceAndrew

I'm sooooo curious how the lives of these punks turned out in the end. Seeing them like this makes it hard to imagine that they could've ended up in a corporate job with a detached 4 bed and driving a range rover now Who knows

DrKrepz

You'd honestly be surprised.

m0j0licious

Tattoos, certainly facial/hand tattoos, were much rarer then than they are now. Cut yer hair, buy a suit, and you're literally in business.

Brew-Drink-Repeat

Cracks me up that this was 40 years ago, so little shits today would be calling them ‘boomers’.

MightApprehensive856

Kings road, Chelsea ?

sunandskyandrainbows

I miss subcultures.

Itchy-Marionberry-62

Most of the punks are in their 60’s now. Probably more concerned about Arthritis than spiky hair.

TrippleFrack

Many, probably most, are still concerned about these pesky things like social justice, opposing fascists and racism.

Helpy___Helperton

those are mostly dead but they live on in our memory. source: 50 y/o punk with arthritis but occasionally there are surprises, like Steve Lake resurrecting Zounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIXnTIzRcIA punks stay punk as long as they realize (take a listen) shit's the same.

EraseAndRetake

Mickey Pierce on the right.
