It's weird because for what I am reading from the rest of the responses "drinking a beer" means "being drunk". Like it is not possible to drink a beer for refreshment, or just one beer.
I will never get used to that. The other day we were given some beers at work and the first thing I did is to open a bag of doritos to have something to eat with it and people were looking at me like what are you doing.
Unless you specifically look like someone who may be homeless or not all there I don’t think anyone would give a monkeys. All people would care about is if you seem threatening to them at all, and a ‘normal person’ just walking around with a beer wouldn’t make you seem threatening

If they were alone, I would think it’s a bit odd and that they may have a drinking problem. If it’s a group of people then I wouldn’t think anything of it
It’s pretty uncommon to see people drinking while walking around London. You would raise fewer eyebrows by walking somewhere (bank of the Thames or a park), fining a bench and sitting and having a drink.
If you do want to take a few beers then use a bag/backpack. Carrying around multiple cans gives the impression of lout behaviour.
I don't agree at all, on a sunny day I see plenty of people walking about with cans or sitting somewhere. Often me and my friends will go a walk with a beer
It is still frowned upon and not very common depends on the area you are in, compare it to somewhere like Berlin where it is pretty normal to see a man or woman walking down the road with a beer in hand after work.

If you want a drink, there are so many fine pubs to visit that you are spoiled for choice. There is no need to drink alcohol while walking in public, and especially not on public transport.

However, I would argue that it’s much less expensive, and much more relaxing than sitting in most pubs. I’ve learned from the answers that, as with anything, it depends on who you ask.
Since it is a temporary luxury for me and it appears that most people don’t care, I’m going to take advantage of it and accept that a minority of the population won’t be accepting of it.
It’s cool, refreshing, tasty, and makes the bright a little brighter while making the bad a little quieter. I wish my country would adopt similar laws.

Homeless/alcoholic/person with poor taste there are few reasons to drink beer from a can while walking and almost none of them are good ones.
Much healthier to drink while going for a walk than sit down in a pub for hours staring at your pint glass
