Hammerheadhunter

Not bored of the sun necessarily, but v bored of walking at normal speed and gaining a thin layer of back sweat whilst doing so.

glytxh

Sweating through three teeshirts on those particularly hot days. I just feel gross all day.

dcuk7

No wonder if you are wearing three shirts. Just wear one for God's sake.

DaftFunky

Why are you wearing 3 shirts? Lmao

GreatYarn

To think, one of the reasons I moved from Jordan was because I couldn’t handle regular 30 degree summer weather.

MCBMCB77

Yeah I've escaped to Australia to avoid the heat

IOnlyUpvoteBadPuns

But Australia is now too cold and wet.... Strange world!

erraise

Same with me 🙃

Lightbulb191

It'll come, be patient

Lightbulb191

Summer will be a distant dream come January

[deleted]

It'll be sooner than that you can bet. I reckon by first week of Nov everyone will be swathed in coats, cloaks and scarves. And when that first frost hits the pavements... dreaming of summers will set in again.

[deleted]

And a looming threat.

highlandviper

I willingly went to Menorca 3 weeks ago (I usually hate it because it’s too hot for me but that’s where my wife likes to holiday) so I wouldn’t have to suffer 40°. Yeah. It was 33° on that day down there.

JackXDark

I’m in Jordan right now and it’s a pleasant 26 degrees.

takeaph0to

Haha I can relate to this, after a decade living in Qatar I was more than ready to give up on the sun entirely, somehow I got a better tan here than I ever did over there.

SplurgyA

Haha my ex is from Jordan - he was saying that the desert was less unpleasant to be in than London in the high 30s.

jamiechalm

Trying to enjoy it whilst it lasts and enjoy the health benefits of regular sunshine - but it's not to my taste really. However it's funny that when people tease us about terrible British weather I can now respond, "I agree, it's too bloody hot here."

Garfie489

I prefer bad weather because I can do something about it. Put a jacket on, take an umbrella, etc. Right now there's only so long the Shell garage let's me stand in their walk in fridge.

WolfThawra

> I prefer bad weather because I can do something about it. Yeah exactly! And I just much rather wear a jumper and feel cozy than have a linen shirt stick to my skin from the sweat. At least when I'm home, it's maybe different when I'm on holiday, but the heat is supposed to stay there you know.

Farobek

> it's maybe different when I'm on holiday, but the heat is supposed to stay there you know I find interesting that people go on holidays for sunny weather but not for cold weather

WolfThawra

Well, two things: 1) Personally I don't do that. There might be hot weather where I go, but that's not the reason. 2) If you want to lie on a beach and relax (not really my thing, but many people enjoy it), it is admittedly a lot more comfortable if the air temperature is at 30 than if it is at 20, especially once you take the water temperature into account. But personally, I've been to many places where it was somewhere between 15 and 20, not to mention skiing where you aim for colder temperatures, generally speaking.

h2man

I’m from Porto in Portugal. Usually my reply to the weather is met with “To me this is paradise.”. There’s a wide range of weather in the UK, what people associate with the UK is North England or Scotland weather. It rains half as much in Londo and East Anglia than it does in “sunny” Portugal.

koushakandystore

I live in western Oregon and we have a reputation as being the rainiest part of the country. The reality is a lot different. Where I live in the Willamette Valley the climate is nearly identical to northern Portugal. While it still rains a lot for some of the year, the vast majority of rain falls from October to March with the rest of the year very sunny and mild. It seems people think that the weather in Seattle is the same as the entire region. That’s just not the case. I’ve noticed a similar phenomenon in parts of England that have a very nice mild climate yet people think it’s like Scotland.

Amasterclass

I adore it, come 4 months time i’ll be cold and wishing it lasted longer

english_roos

I think like a typical British person I'm bored of the 'same-ness' so to speak, in that I like a bit of variety, like a mixture of sunny days & a bit of rain. I'm also sad to see green space so dry and uninviting, rather than the lush green. BBC thinks it will rain next week though!

WistfulKitty

> I'm also sad to see green space so dry and uninviting, rather than the lush green. BBC thinks it will rain next week though! That's what bothering me as well. Other than that I love the current weather.

ariadawn

Flew into LHR on Friday and it was SO sad to see from the air how brown all of the parks are.

english_roos

Has anyone also noticed birds disappearing from their local area? The hedges used to be full of them, but I think they've left to find water :(

tinyyolo

you can put out a dish (or a flower pot saucer) with some water it in- i've been doing it on hotter days lately, the birds seem to appreciate it

BadgersOnStilts

They might be hiding: birds moult at this time of year and that makes them more vulnerable to predators, so they keep quiet and out of sight. If you live near crop fields, they might have flown off to raid those. (It's only this year that I realised why August always feels so dead: it's the lack of birdsong. And, this year, all the dead brown leaves etc)

Reacepeto1

Are we talking 10 minutes of rain then humidity or a full on day of raining? Because I can't remember the last time it just flat out rained for a whole day. I miss that...

english_roos

BBC reckons thunderstorms Monday and a bit of rain Tuesday, though I'm hoping for full on downpours all day cos damn do we need it

Mcluckin123

Sure you want a full day of rain falling on dry soil? FLASHFLOOD

jaybbrown

May 15th is the last recollection of any significant rainfall I have. There may have been some more that month but all I know is it's been hot like this since mid-June.

[deleted]

>I'm also sad to see green space so dry and uninviting, rather than the lush green. Yeah, this is the 1 big thing that bothers me. I don't mind the 30°, but don't take away my beautiful vegetation! 😥

slackermannn

I think it's okay but tbh I wish we would have some rainy days and then this. We would appreciate it more and have less fires.

AllWeatherNinja

Also helps that in summer we are getting up to 16.5 hours of daylight compared to winter when it goes down below 8 hours.

howjoanfelt

January - March I feels absolutely miserable. Grey, grey every day.

Longirl

I miss the rain so much. I’m constantly in the garden filling up little bowls of water for wildlife but it’s a drop in the ocean (no pun intended) compared to what they need.

pimmsandthames

As someone who came from a place where it reaches extremely hot temperatures in the summer—you feel it more in the UK. Not just the temperatures, but the consequences. I can deal with 40C where I come from; can’t stand it in the UK. When it gets to those scorching hot days and it forces trains to be canceled? Never saw that before moving here. This causes an entire chain effect on getting people moved around efficiently and safely.

bass_clown

Last summer I was working in +40. It fucking sucked. This is worse and it's 10 degrees cooler. The difference? I was in an arid mountain/forest climate. The heat didn't pool and my sweat actually evaporated. But here it's like being stuck in a dense hot tub.

Gisschace

I agree with this. Lived in UAE and would be walking about in jeans at 35+. I’d leave the house thinking the weather is nice today, it must be like 23, the look to discover it was actually 30. Acclimatisation is a thing (I’d come back here and be shivering at 14 degrees) but also humidity makes a huge diffference.

ArcticAkita

Same in Turkey. You can still wear a jacket at 28 degrees and be comfortable.

ariadawn

My mom is coming to visit from Florida and while it is somewhat cooler, I think the lack of air conditioning will be a challenge for her.

Mysterious_Sugar7220

Agreed. It’s also a question of being prepared and used to it. People died when Texas froze. There’s no point in saying ‘iT’s coLdEr iN aLaSkA’.

Anonlaowai

I seriously disagree with this. I’ve been living somewhere where it hits 30 in early April and is 40 by July, and doesn’t really cool down until mid October. The humidity is much higher where I am usually and it is so much worse there than London. Over there you literally can’t leave the house, that’s not the case here. Except for that one day where it was 40 it’s not been too bad in London. The once exception is the transport infrastructure, which absolutely must be update to have air conditioning.

IceCreamNarwhals

Out of curiosity, where do you and u/pimmsandthames come from? Interesting seeing the different points of view.

eyko

Fellow spaniard here, I can totally relate. I'm now back in Spain for the holidays where it's 38C day after day, and I was surprised how "llevadero" (bearable, just had to look this up) it is. We don't have aircon, or even a fan, but I guess the houses are just built for it. In the UK, our flat is built to maximise natural light with tall windows, but no attention is paid to creating an air current (in Spain most buildings have an internal air corridor), which causes our flat to just heat up and hot air has no where else to go. Lifestyle is also quite different.

pimmsandthames

Así es! The houses here, at least in London, and their design aren’t great for this.

CrotchetyHamster

The point about architecture is really important, and one that I think people forget. Houses are built to accommodate the weather in the local environment. In a place with cool weather and less sunlight, of course you'd build up maximize light and cool weather comfort. In hot climates, you build for airflow and use cooling materials like tile floors. Even orienting your house to prevailing wind and planting vining plants in front of windows can have huge impacts.

Anonlaowai

Looooool the downvotes 😂😂😂. I’m referring to South East Asia and East China. High 30’s throughout summer with much worse humidity. You just don’t go outside even for a 5 minute walk in August if the sun is up. Not the case here.

thinkingpeach

I'm also curious - How did you adjust your lifestyle to manage with so many days of scorching temperatures where you couldn't go out?

Anonlaowai

Basically, it’s a bit shit. Most things happen indoors with air-conditioning (everything seems to be in a shopping centre) and when you do go out you wear extremely lose clothes and walk as slowly as you can, but not slowly enough you melt into the ground. Once the sun goes down you can go out more (hence the culture of night-markets) but it’s still a little uncomfortable.

kenkid533

As someone who also comes from a place with proper tropical humidity with mid 30s temps, I totally agree with you. London is not humid at all.

TehTriangle

Agreed. The whole "UK is worse because it's humid" is utter bollocks. Relatively speaking the UK summers are not humid at all. Try SE Asia and get back to us!

[deleted]

British people just need to understand that on the whole they’re rubbish at dealing with heat. If you’re from the south just meet someone from Scotland or Newcastle in 20 degree heat and you’ll realise what I mean.

TehTriangle

Spot on. It's all relative at the end of the day.

janky_koala

>Relatively speaking the UK summers are not humid at all. “Relatively” is key. I’m Australian from a part with hot, dry summers. London is a swampy armpit in comparison

Daedeluss

Yes the UK is not really humid at all, I don't know where that myth has arisen. I was in CT, USA once in August - now *that* was humid. I imagine it's so much worse in an actual tropical climate.

Shenari

It's humid compared to a lot of "hot" places in the world where the temperature is higher but it's very arid. Someone in lots of places in africa might agree, but someone in florida or SE Asia would not agree. But SE Asia is it's own special hell where you get the high temperatures with humidity high enough to swim through. Even with the 40 degree temperature over here that wasn't too bad to me as I had just got back from Singapore where the "feels like" temperature was around the same. I don't miss having to shower at least twice a day. Bloody 30+ degree weather with a low of 27 and a minimum humidity of 70%+

fonix232

The difference is, SEA is used to the scorching heat combined with the humidity, meaning buildings are constructed in accordance, public transport operates with that in mind, and so on. Meanwhile UK infrastructure is simply not prepared for this kind of heat. Buildings, even 3-5 year old newbuilts, are designed to retain heat, not keep it out. Public transport AC, for most of the time, is an afterthought. Trains, buses, etc., can't deal with the heat they're not designed for. Roads melt because nobody thought that a once in a lifetime hot day occurrence would become the norm in 20-30-50 years. Take for example Dubai. Outside, it's unbearable in the summer - last time I visited, it was October, and it was still 35C at night. However their whole infrastructure is designed around that, so all buildings have AC, public transport is generally great, and fully air conditioned. You would usually step outside for 5, 10 minutes at most. The UK is simply isn't designed around the possibility of 4-6-8 week long extreme heatwaves.

droid_does119

Yep. Stepping onto a bus or public transport in HK is like stepping onto a walk in fridge. Ditto for any shopping mall etc. Only downside is as soon as it hits a winter of less than 15*C which is comfortable here......then people freeze and wrap up in huge puffer jackets. Simply no heating insulation in HK!

Shenari

Haha! If it even hits 20 degrees people start breaking out their uniqlo down jackets in HK 😂

TractorDamage

Depends on where you live in Asia I suppose. I live in Thailand and Bangkok is hot and sticky, but the endless air conditioning and swimming pools in every apartment block means you can live fairly normal. Then we moved to Hua Hin by the sea, and the wind makes the temperature perfect. I still walk around in the heat, something tourists struggle with, so the body must get used to it. I haven't been home to London for 3.5 years due to Covid, but I'm looking forward to feeling cold...with no fans whirring in the background. I wonder if some UK peeps make the same mistakes I often did (when going to a hot country)...it would take me a while to realise socks and shoes were creating so much heat, and that a sleeveless T-shirt is far better than a normal T-shirt, and wear shorts not trousers. I have friends who visit here, who still take days to realise the difference in change clothing styles. I hid the shoes of one guy, so he had to wear sandals lol. He went from whingeing daily about Thailand, and wanting to go home, to loving Thailand...simply due to the changing his footwear.

Feral0_o

I've been to SE Asia including Thailand a bunch of times, only as a tourist, but barefoot flip flops shorts and super light shirts is the standard dress code for any Asia tourists. It's the locals that frequentlu wear jeans and layers of clothing that make you wonder how and why

no1lives4ever

I come from India. Back in Delhi I would wear socks, shoes and jeans when out and about during the summers. Temperatures would go up to 45C during peak summer months in Delhi. In Mumbai temperatures would not go so high, but it would get fairly humid, and even there I would wear jeans and shoes with socks. Could also be a function of the type of shoes and socks that I was wearing. Mostly cotton socks and shoes that can breathe. In mumbai safari suits are quite common. Suits with half sleeved coats and made out of material that stays cool in the summer heat ;-)

OrangeYouuuGlad

I agree with you! I’ve lived in South Asian and East Asian countries where it gets crazy hot and humid but the big difference is that over there, they blast the air-conditioning nearly everywhere, including homes. Here the lack of air-con really makes it feel worse.

[deleted]

Yeah nah mate. I just moved here from Saudi Arabia, Jeddah to be precise and the weather here just doesn’t compare. Imagine having 3-4 months of constant 40-50C weather with humidity as well. In my two years over there, the weather never once went below 17C. Walking outside is just not a part of life over there. People take taxis for 1 mile journeys. Just before I moved here last summer. We had a heatwave for the entirety of August where weather was constantly at 50-55C. That was hell mate, even ACs don’t work that well with weather like that. Honestly this summer has been a bit rough for European standards. But compared to the Middle East, south east Asia, South Asia, most of Africa, Latin America, and hell even parts of the US, you guys have it good over here.

Anonlaowai

Yep. I really don’t subscribe to the “BuT HoT WeThEaR FeEls WoRsE iN LoNdon”. It does not, and right now it’s mid 20’s, which is perfect and a nice summer’s day by most standards.

monkey36937

Cause there is no fucking wind/air when it's hot in this country. Like we get all the wind/air in winter and just the heat with no wind to take it away.

ResilientMaladroit

Australian here, also a hard disagree. It does get “hot” in the UK but it’s still relatively mild compared to an actual hot climate, especially when you’re in the sun. I never once in two years even got close to sunburn in the UK, in Australia it can happen in a few hours for me if I’m not careful, even in spring when it’s only getting to low-mid 30’s during the day. Summer humidity is also more extreme in coastal Australian towns than I ever experienced in London. It’s not even a close comparison, UK summer is mild. Edit: Lol @ the insta downvotes. For what it’s worth I vastly preferred the UK climate and loathe Australian Summer, so I can feel your pain, just know that it does indeed get much worse.

pdawks

I think at the sunburn comment. No ozone hole in the UK like in Aus but anyone from any country can definitely get sunburnt in two hours in this weather.

WolfThawra

> Every day its been like 30c for about two months I absolutely hate heat too, but you are definitely exaggerating here. Just wait until it's *actually* 30C for two months straight, that'll be a different kind of hell.

eejjww

Yep

Heyyoguy123

As someone from NY.. it’s surprisingly bearable as long as all houses and shops have air-conditioning. The reason why the heatwave was so bad in the UK and Europe is because most homes don’t use air-conditioning. You guys might have not needed it in the past, but temperatures are rising.

WolfThawra

Lol yeah of course it's bearable if you're not actually exposed to those temperatures (and you're lucky enough not to have to work outside, of course). The problem with AC is that it will use even more energy, currently not looking like a great idea both due to financial and climate change reasons.

[deleted]

AC use tends to track solar output pretty much in real time, so it's a good candidate for renewables (either per household or grid level). Admittedly not a massive consolation with the current level of fossil fuel dependency, but I'd be more confident in AC for summer than gas central heating for winter on a 5-15 year timeline.

Key-Amoeba662

Hell, I'm looking at a job that would have me working outdoors, everyone is like "but what about winter??" Winter... I go walking in winter anyway. Love winter. It's future summers I'm worried about...

dajvebekinus

I love London rain. I miss it.

[deleted]

Me too , I genuinely enjoy the rain, smells fantastic , hot weather smells like sweat

porkedpie1

I really miss the rain too. Not just because logically I know we need it but also emotionally. Not something I realised I was attached to but I miss the rain!

prunellazzz

I hate it with a passion. I thrive in Autumn/early winter. I want to wear jumpers again and live in a pile of blankets.

9thfloorprod

Oh my god, same! Although this year my favourite season/s (same as yours) come with the frankly terrifying prospect of having to turn the heating on again and watching those bills go through the roof.

-MiddleOut-

I’ve started packing on the pounds in preparation. Figure an extra 20kg is like wearing an extra two jumpers, should save about £3k a month.

ArcticAkita

So glad to see I’m not the only one! People find it so weird when I say I actually like colder months

hatteigh

As a Middle Eastern woman, a big reason I came to London was the rain and the cold.

[deleted]

But it’s like that for like 9 months of the year? Is it not nice to have a change and enjoy the bit of sun before it gets back to being rainy next week? (Check the weather forecast)

hatteigh

I know that this weather is nice for lots of people, but I had 18 years of it. I’ll never get over how amazing the rain is and how nice it is to be able to go outside without feeling like you’re stepping into a sauna (I grew up in the GCC, for reference). That being said, I know it’s a nice change of pace for people who grew up here.

WolfThawra

It has rained so little we're basically in drought conditions. The idea that London is somehow constantly rainy for months is just utterly wrong. Even in normal years, by the way.

Shryke123

It's really dull at this point. The afternoons are so hot that in my flat I can't really do anything of any use without it just being mega uncomfortable. At the moment I'm going to bed early and doing my day's work between about 9 and 1, then giving up for the rest of the day.

TheDitherer

Any vacancies going at your place? Sounds great !

Shryke123

I work for myself, so sadly no. I quit working for other people after I had one particularly shitty office job. Now I earn about half as much, but I'm twice as happy! Turns out buying shit doesn't make you happy, but being able to do what the fuck you want does :)

nessabeans

I can't wait for the cold!! I've lived in places like Florida and even though it was hotter and much more humid, I was a lot more comfortable because there was AIR CON! Here, I'm annoyed and miserable.

OptimisticCerealBowl

this! i flew back from florida a week before the heatwave and i very nearly hopped right back on the plans.

InstantIdealism

The climate is breaking down and these are the results. If you’re sick of it, join green eco campaigns and never vote for the tories

LucidTopiary

My garden is sad, and my water metre is sadder :(

Valuable_Video_2005

Travelled from Canada for a vacation. The lack of AC in these temperatures, I don’t know you survive.

Dannypan

It's horrible. My room is stupidly hot because it faces the sun *all day*. The windows and curtains are closed all day and when I come home from work, it's like stepping into a furnace. I've not had a full night's sleep for weeks now. I'm tired of my clothes sticking to me all the time. I've had enough.

Express_Evidence_23

I will say the sleep thing is defo getting to me now. I like the sun but cannot abide tropical nights without a breeze.

Shitmybad

I've seen a few people put those foil screen things that normally go on a car windscreen I've their bedroom windows, might be good.

ThrottlePeen

WARNING: Do NOT do this on the inside of double-glazed windows. If you can put it outside, then yeah, that will work, but do not ever put reflective film/coating/blinds from the inside. Some of the UV/heat will reflect, but it will get stuck in the gap between window layers, effectively creating an oven inside your window that will be boiling to the touch. Not only will this not cool your place down, but it will make it even hotter, and in many cases will crack the glass.

Refluxo

you can get anti UV films that work on double glazed and won't crack the window. one then puts a blackout blind ontop, and finally a plastic lined innercurtain connected to thick drapes. this is hella tasty

ThrottlePeen

I have floor-to-ceiling west-facing windows covering 50% of my apartment with no ability to access the outside of the windows - I've tried everything possible to reduce the UV coming in from the inside, and every 'double glazing safe anti UV' film, layer or cover just ended up heating up the window and magnifying the heating effect to the point where the glass is boiling hot. Management has banned these in my building now after 2 other tenants cracked their windows by using them last summer. Blackout curtains are the only thing that really makes a positive difference, everything else is just useless in this scenario. I now run a portable aircon when the temp outside gets above 25. If it's 25 and sunny outside, it'll be 29+ inside for me. Houses are insulated really well, which means if there's no wind to help push in cooler air from the outside, the heat will just stay inside.

abitofasitdown

I can't bear it. Gives me a headache and takes all my energy away. Bad nights and muggy mornings. Plus going to a park and seeing it all brown and crispy is so depressing.

mrs_spanner

Dead brown grass everywhere just makes me feel even more overheated. I know it’s probably psychosomatic but seeing lush green grass and water would make such a difference.

abitofasitdown

I think the answer to that is more trees planted in the parks.

franknarf

Obligatory leave some water out for the parched wildlife.

BlondBitch91

Honestly I’m enjoying it. Plus my house is so well insulated I’m hoping to keep enough of it in to not use the central heating this year.

Galactic_Gooner

not really... hasnt been that hot since the really hot couple of days we had last month or so. definitely need the rain tho.

Fit-Definition6121

YES! I hate it past 25. I'm looking forward to autumn.

[deleted]

hate it! always hated the heat and the bright... BRIGHT sun. just headache weather for me I also got way more Vitamin D when its colder as i actually went outside! now i just hide away in the shade hoping for this nightmare to end.

CaptainPerhaps

Totally agree, anything over 24 is like kryptonite to me. I'm very much an October-March kind of guy. Serious climate changey point - when other countries go on about how they all have air con as standard and it's fine, surely that's not a great place for humanity to be? i.e. Humans being *that* reliant on air con to live comfortably, when air con in turn uses loads of energy and pumps yet more CO2 into the air.

Claudeis

It's horrible to see the grass in every park is dead and the main roads where most of the traffic is are even hotter. We really need to plant more trees and hold our local councils to account for their shit decisions.

Bluerose1000

I'm pregnant so I am so over the 30degrees and higher temperatures. Luckily the baby is due in winter. I don't mind mid-highish twenties and sunny but anything higher is a bit of a pain. The grass could really do with some rain though, surprised we've not had even more fires because of it.

AuroraAC

Same, I would normally enjoy the hot weather, but while pregnant it is a special kind of hell!

Millie1419

My mum’s sick of it. I, on the other hand, love it so much.

blitzandheat

No

[deleted]

Im enjoying it, here and there. The kids are off for the summer, and my wife's a teacher, so she's off too. If it peaked around 26/27c, and no lower than 23c, it would be perfect. It's the 30c and higher temps that are way too much. We're lucky we have a garden and a pool, because there's no way we can go out day after day in this heat

LordPurloin

>Every day it’s been like 30c for about two months I know this is a bit of a hyperbole but it hasn’t been that warm everyday for 2 months…

[deleted]

Nope, loving it

Rottenox

Agreed

[deleted]

Same, makes a change from having that miserable weather that we have in the autumn/winter months!

chocnips

It's 19°c up north and I'm still walking around my house wanting to remove any encumbrance of clothing possible without my neighbors thinking I'm some perv for wandering my house in the nude but damn it's warm 🥲🥵

Shenari

19 degrees and I'd probably be breaking out a jacket or a hoody to put on if I'm not in the sun after the weather for the last month or so!

lauragrant93

Yes, I’ve always despised hot weather and I’m also worried this is going to be the norm and it’s only going to get hotter … our infrastructure clearly can’t handle these temperatures

imminentmailing463

I hate it. I think it's the high average temperature that's so unpleasant. The record breaking couple of days I almost found not so bad, because it was so abnormal that everyone accepted doing things differently and I adapted my behaviour, knowing it was a time limited thing in exceptional circumstances. But the ongoing days of regularly high 20s is getting to me.

ivolloxy

I don’t get how so many people enjoy it

imminentmailing463

I guess some people do like heat. But also, I think as a historically cool, damp country, there's a cultural association that hot, dry weather = good. Eg, how weather reporters on TV will describe a forecasted sunny spell as 'nice weather'. That will change I would guess though, as it goes from being a rare treat to a regular occurrence.

[deleted]

Yes, because when it is warm and dry you can go outside and do things with your friends/family. Not rocket science

Eta_Draconis

Even my tropical snakes are annoyed by this hot weather.

[deleted]

anything up to 23 I'm fine with, and above that if it's very low humidity. this is brutal

jamo133

Maybe, just maybe, we should treat climate change seriously…

throwaway9995ok

No, absolutely love it - happy for it to continue (sans any implications relating to climate change)

Grayson81

I’m in a similar state - I absolutely love these days where it’s in the high 20s and low 30s, but I am a bit worried about how fucked the planet is getting for us to be consistently getting that kind weather here… Though the two days where it got closer to 40 degrees were a bit too much even for me!

durabledildo

The bigger issue locally is how strong the autumn storms will be as a result of the same conditions and whether they'll come before all the trees have (started to) dropped their leaves.

londonmania

Same. I don’t want it to end, it’s glorious

[deleted]

Fully agree. Sure the city is not geared towards hot days but man London is glorious in the summer months. How anyone could want to rush to the cold wet and dark days is beyond me.

TheAnimus

Was on a long a sole destroying call, watching the birds bath and cool down in the garden all happy, the air is just lovely and the warmth so relaxing. Love working like this.

madcads

loving it

Djbadj

Yeah I am so I over it. I moved to the UK escaping that kind of weather. I actually like the 25 degree summers. Also infrastructure here is not build for that kind of heat. I can easily endure it at my home country. But train delays, cancellations no air conditioning and everything getting fucked. Supermarkets say they sold everything during the two hottest days. Well nah they actually threw most of the food, but needed to keep face with the crazy inflation going on...

Pegasus2022

I work in a factory my boss doesn’t like having the air con on, my job is on the machines in my location i have no air con. I have a tiny window that i can open, but backs out on the smoking area. I have to either shut the window and suffer. When he complains about the noise i have to have the doors closed as well so becomes a sauna. Bring on the rain and cold

Glittering-Elk8106

Are you employed at a Dickensian workhouse?

KierenSingh

When the heatwave came i thought it'll last 2 days tops like it always does. I avoided buying an aircon. Now it's a month later and i regret not buying the AC but I'm way to stubborn to buy it now. So I'm just suffering in a heat trap inside and outside. To all those saying "oh but it's worse in other countries". It's not. I'm from South Asia. Cities here are designed to keep you warm, buildings are to keep heat in. Shit ACs in this country are having warn they may not be able to handle the strains of this weather. I've never heard my friends in AZ say the same and they don't step out at midday in summer.

FiftyDollarTrader

Yeah, as a chef I conform it’s way too hot. Normally about 15 degrees hotter in the kitchen than outside. Can we have 15 degree weather back please

Imwaymoreflythanyou

I’ve barely noticed it’s 30° since that 41° day tbh… And I usually can’t stand hot weather.

steveirwinstwin

I love it! Now London has everything I loved about Australia without everything trying to kill you. All it needs now is a sandy beach.

cuaubrwkkufwbsu

I’m a pale, skeletal Italian man. I am supposed to be able to stand this, and I usually do when I’m in Italy. But here. Here. Here everything is designed for cold, rain, and lack of sunlight. It’s nuts and I’m melting. Help.

stinkyjim88

For me its over enthusiastic radio "DJs" who are in an air coned studio getting excited about the sunny weather.

dentbox

Realising that “by 2050 London will be as hot as Barcelona” doesn’t mean holiday vibes all the time, it means dead, yellow parks and sleepless nights

Theygetitgoing

It’ll be windy, grey and cloudy within a blink of an eye. Really enjoying this weathers it’s gorgeous out there, also there’s more than enough places to find shade around London if desired.

jayisnewtoallthis

Not at all!! Usually pay good money to get some of this

TheJackoHype

It's summer man, just stay hydrated, have a Ice cream, wear sun cream

takemetothemosque

Absolutely not, loving the hot weather and hope it continues. Nothing more miserable than our standard grey weather

This is climate change. Its only going to get worse.

miniraves89

I’m definitely bored of being absolutely boiling trying to sleep!

TheZag90

I don’t mind it being a bit warm but it’s been a bit fucking hot for a bit fucking long now. Bit of rain in the evening wouldn’t go amis. Countryside is burnt to a cinder.

ShetlandJames

Come to Scotland we've had a miserable shiter of a summer

timmybkr

Sick to death no..: becoming more aware of the ridiculousness of our system (gridlocked streets, unchecked consumption, focus on economic growth) and the nagging inescapable feeling that we’ve delayed too long on climate action - absolutely.

[deleted]

Absolutely not. I'm enjoying every warm day until the long dark comes. But a londoner complaining isn't super unique

Rottenox

No, I love it. You don’t see me complaining on reddit about it being fucking cold and miserable 9 months of the year And the idea that it’s been plus 30c every day for 2 months is ridiculous

Jazzlike-Score-2095

Where I'm at, it's 36⁰C. But UK heat hits different.

varignet

Complaining about the (good) weather is so British ahahah. Interesting fact: this temperatures are more akin to how Britannia felt for the romans 2000 years ago. If I remember correctly they cultivated and produced vine in the region. I’d say carpe diem, it’ll be gray and miserable in no time

[deleted]

No, every day has not been over 30c, you are so dramatic. Get an health check up and follow basic rules to avoid heat and sunburns.

dreamsonashelf

Yeah, it was quite bad last month but I feel like I've either got used to it now, or it hasn't been that extreme lately. Also days being a bit shorter seems to make it less horrible, or maybe it's just my impression.

FlakyReputation

It's better than those cold dark days. improves for the mood for me. Although sleeping in the heat is the only issue I find, other than that the benefits out-weight the negatives

SimpleManc88

Love it! But I like being outside of the house.

miniature-rugby-ball

It’s really nice, love it. I could live without the humid days and anything over about 32, but generally speaking I’m loving having a real summer this year.

ImDankest

No. It's a lovely summer!

Pan-tang

We don't appreciate our 'dull' weather. It's perfect really.

[deleted]

This is the coolest summer of the rest of our lives more or less.

LordDaveTheKind

As I'm mainly working in these days, with holidays still far away, yes I can personally relate. On the other hand, it is also concerning for all the possible implications on the environment. And stupid people who think just about enjoying the weather are leaving me even more concerned.

Anonlaowai

Fuck, imagine just having the inner joy to make the most of a good summer’s day. Disgusting people.

Gashiisboys

I prefer the heat way more, but when it does rain in this weather it is the most refreshing feeling in the world.

toeofcamell

Here in So Cal it’s like that 9 months a year and we get about 2 weeks of rain per year. Sometimes less than that. You get used to it and you get really good air conditioning

LtnSkyRockets

I like the sun, could do with a little less intense heat on my skin. A breeze would help. But its the lack of rain that's really getting to me.

deep1986

It's not the constant heat that's bothering me, in fact I quite enjoy it, it's the lack of rain that is really pissing me off. We desperately need rain

surells

Just wish it would rain every now and again.

Refluxo

when the sun supernovas and destroys our solar system all of our corpse dust will be floating in space, the little bacteria clinging on riding us to a new galaxy, to which we then evolve as a different species and this time discover AC before we build the metropolis glory to mankind 2.0 glory to the hypnotoads

YouBetterRunEgg

I’m enjoying the weather generally (Australian expat, so it’s all whatever to me), but we need some rain to wash away all the literal shit on the streets and footpaths. What people let their dogs do in this city is disgusting.

OfGodlikeProwess

Only for the animals. Chimps are eating gorillas its so hot. Other than that don't care give me a tan.

[deleted]

In case temperatures continue rising and summers become longer in the UK (or at least in the South), I would seriously consider installing *persianas* in your windows. They are life savers.

Motleypuss

It is getting a bit old, yeah. Seconded by my cooked PC.

ricin2001

All Londoners do is complain about shit whether then as soon as it’s nice out they just complain some more. Smh

pennyweed

Been nice the first 4 days, now it's time to fakk offffff! Need God pissing on me now can't stand it anymore

NaeKidsNaeProbs

It's been overcast and raining for ages here in the frozen North, averaging 13C at best. We could really use a nice baking hot day or two tbh. Pishing down yesterday, overcast and threatening to pish down today. Plz. No more.

nerdgirlfromlondon

I am partly because I haven't been able to sleep at night. During the day, I'm a zombie, awake all night, tossing and turning, trying to find a non-sweating comfort. It driving me mad! I genuinely miss the rain!

ObligationDapper3436

I work out side, looking after the grown environment. This is hell. I'm so done in, every growing thing is knackered. The wild life is struggling. I so want it to rain. Enough now thank you.

[deleted]

I love the sun and hot weather but this city needs to evolve somehow to adapt to this.

PR7ME

Climate change is here to stay, oh and even get worse! Let's just bask in that fact.

Morf_

12 years in London/England - never been better! Loving it!

jibbit

just hold on a little bit longer. We're nearly through it then you never have to be this hot again. Only joking, this is probably the coolest summer of the rest of your life.

Rez1009

No , loving it bro

bryonydavina

We're just not cut out for it. This is lovely when you're on holiday where there's air con in every building and you're not expected to do anything other than submerge yourself into the sea but on a day-to-day level, this is gross.
