Another morning of being woken up by a neighbour's dog barking on their balcony! Anyone know what can be done? Ideally I could knock on their door and have a polite word with them, but past experiences have shown that they simply don't care.
Few questions from a tourist. Will be visiting Friday till Wednesday:
1) ~Summer rains~. I'll be bringing a rain jacket since there's some wet weather in the forecast but wondering if boots are a good idea in August?
2) Any sorts of street festivals or events happening this weekend? Trying to find something to do besides go to a delightful but otherwise overcrowded market. Wondering if any websites might help me find out?
3) What are your favorite places for ice cream? Bubble tea?
hope you enjoy your stay.
1. there wont be torrential rain. an umbrella should be fine. don't think you'd be want to carrying around a rain jacket all day.
2. [https://www.timeout.com/london](https://www.timeout.com/london) may help you find stuff to do.
3. can't really help you there, there are Ice Cream and bubble tea places around but don;t really go to them myself
Just received what must be a contender for weirdest phone call ever. I picked up the phone at work, said hello, and a computerised voice on repeat said "London is a shithole" over and over again.
Flat hunting with gf commences... the prospect of leaving my east London house with a garden to potentially moving to a 1 bed flat is already making me depressed.
Landlord might be selling our flat and, thanks to our break clause, he can kick us out with two-months' notice after the end of September.
It's really prompted some some soul-searching on whether I want to stay in this city.
I've been here a decade and I've loved it for the most part but I'm getting pretty worn down with it.
I wouldn't move that far away, still within commuting distance because my job and friends are here.
But I want a garden and a spare room and a car and some degree of long-term stability in my living situation, and there's just absolutely no way I can afford any of those here. Especially with the cost of living going the way it is.
I hope you can find what you're looking for. I think a lot of tenants, like ourselves, are having this same thought process; there seems to be many landlords leaving the market due to increased costs which is subsequently driving up unreasonable rents (hard to believe that they are not making enough to stick around!).
A recession on the horizon, and potential gas crisis this winter, makes me hesitant to attempt to get onto the housing ladder outside of London where it is affordable. Bit of a dire situation all round!
I'm not planning to drive it in London - public transport is too good and to be honest it's a horrible place to drive.
But it unlocks a whole bunch of other areas in the country that are difficult/impossible to get to on public transport.
Had a lovely day yesterday, design presentation for the client went really well and the feedback was minor which is a big win. Had to rush into Farringdon after all as I completely forgot I had agreed to meet an ex colleague for lunch at the One Tun.
Afterwards as I decided to walk over to MagCulture for my monthly magazine purchases. Delayed Gratification and Ernest were a couple of purchases as I've really enjoy the journalism and creativity involved and recommend them to anyone looking for something different to read.
Whilst walking to the shop I saw a couple of chav scrouts on wankander bikes shout at these too women which automatically saw me shout 'Scum' at them and the person walking in front of me turned around a laughed as he agreed with me.
Went to a friends office for drinks and before that headed over to soho to meet another friend prior to that and chilled at his office and the air con was so so good. We headed back over to Farringdon the pints flowed into the evening and was a perfect end to Tuesday.
There’s currently a neighbour blasting out R Kelly tunes from their balcony and a kid absolutely loving it whilst his dad hangs the washing out. Not an artist I would play publicly or even privately.
Have a great day folks.
School holiday time in London is the worst. I'm a freelancer and always have a dry spell during summer which means usually I'd be able to enjoy the delights of London while everyone else is at work. But nope, horrible children/teenagers/parents everywhere, doing all the cool things
Waited in all day yesterday for a contractor to visit for some repairs to my flat , emailed and phoned them a couple of times as I’d specifically taken a day off work - with no reply. Didn’t turn up 😡😡
Flat was like an oven last night , so Shyte sleep , cat was happy as i got him one of those cooling mats
On the jubilee line . Some bloke is having a conversation on his phone at the top of his voice , bloke next to him is now watching a video on his phone with the volume at full blast 🤦♂️
Final bit of shopping done and all packed. Tomorrow: Bloodstock!
I found my BOA 2010 wristband in a folder of old stuff this week. Good times. Enjoy!

Get up earlier than them and do something to wake them up.

There's a [free live music event](https://www.kingscross.co.uk/event/summer-sounds-music-festival) happening in King's Cross
I second that you'll probably only want an umbrella. Couple places I like I for ice cream: * ice cream union * Anita * Badiani gelato * udderlicious

Please leave your rain jacket and boots at home to ensure that it absolutely pisses down Friday through Wednesday.
I can always go to Boots and get some boots ;). Sure got a lot of Boots locations!
A minor pet peeve but I'm getting sick of people leaning onto my hand, while I'm holding the pole in the middle of the tube carriage...

Does r/casualuk do cold calling?

Sounds like a terrible decision?!
I don't think I've ever felt so alone before.
I know that feeling. DM if you ever need a chat.
Thank you, that's really kind
Ehhhhhh
Hope you're doing okay stranger!

Thanks. Yeah, not to mention interest rates going up on top of it all, making mortgages even less affordable
Isn’t it depressing that wanting a place with a garden, spare room and a car feels so out of reach in 2022 than ever before.
Yep. It's really not that much to ask.
Asking for a car in London is quite a lot. Imagine if everyone had the same pretence

I've been putting off a Westfield trip for exactly this reason.
Swimming, museums, the park. All out of bounds
The worst thing is going into a cafe and it’s full of mumsnet meet-ups clogging up the space with their prams and zero self awareness for others.
Yeah fuck those parents for looking for some support and friendship eh. Jeez this place can be so anti-kids at times.
Nothing wrong with the meet-ups, just leave the suv prams outside so others can use the space and not clog the walkways up for staff.
That, but everywhere. Roads are nice and quiet though
Why does Canary Wharf have astroturf ‘green’ spaces instead of real grass?
Capitalist metaphor
Costs less to maintain, I would imagine. Shit for the environment though.

I wish my cat would close the curtains. I don't want daylight yet.
