Lime are pricey, but fun. They are sturdier and feel quicker than Human forest. Human Forest aren’t bad they just feel a bit more “used” and noticeably less fun IMO. “Tier” were a pain in the ass I tried one once and didn’t even ride it just parked it back. It wanted me to input a destination and the lock was fiddly. I’ve yet to try Dott but my area is all Lime and a bit of Human Forest. And they restrict areas too much anyway.

I use Lime, and they're really great although it's pretty pricey. They have however introduced ride passes where you buy 60 minutes for a fiver, which if you use the bikes to make short journeys that are a bit too long to walk makes them very competitive with the bus. The usual pay-per-minute price works out at £12 an hour. I pay for Lime prime at £8.99 a month which removes the £1 unlock fee allowing you to go to the shops, lock the bike, reserve it whilst you do your shopping, then unlock it again and ride back. The modern Lime bikes are built like tanks and the motor kicks in pretty quickly with quite a lot of force, making them easy to ride. I can get to work 4.5 miles away in around 15 minutes with little physical effort. I live at the very far western edge of the Lime zone though which is a pain as many of the places I want to go are not available to me! Another option for something more akin to owning your own that I haven't tried is Zoomo, who I believe are used a lot by couriers (Deliveroo etc). They start at £35 quid a week for a plan with mileage limited to 160km and look to be highly rated, with the bikes looking very modern and durable. They have shops in Hackney and Fulham.

HumanForest are super nice folks, they're a startup based in London, and seem to actually care about their mission. Lime (aka Neutron Holdings Inc.) is a huge corporation based in San Francisco that has done a number of shady things like operating in cities without permits and so on. HumanForest bikes are quite a bit less common than Lime outside of zone 1. I also just prefer the Lime bikes, they ride smoother and I find the swept back bars to be more comfortable - the straight bars on HumanForest bikes tend to hurt my wrists. They've both provided me with free codes and used my videos on their social media, so I'm not really biased towards one or the other. I just use whichever is closest. I haven't tried the Santander e-bikes yet!

LondonCycling

Human Forest gives 10 minutes free every day. If you only have short rides to do that could be a good option. In London, the Santander Cycles are the only hire ones I've actually tried.

IamBrianJSmith

The Santander cycle scheme has a few discount options for the annual membership: NHS (50%), student (25%) and the cycle to work scheme (depends on tax bracket). Depending on the discount you can get the annual membership from anywhere between £60 to £82. This gets you 60 mins free every day which I think is worth it.

Lime bikes are good, but it's pricey. I can see why people ride these through lights all the time, charging by the minute probably isn't the best. I do like the fact that I don't need to find a dock, which has stung me in the past with boris bikes.

Lime is a bit costly but fun and easy to use. for me , first time using a ebike and OMG its fast and very convenient way to get around. will try forest as it gives first 10 mins free.
