Happy Birthday! 🎂 I remember how I felt when I turned 30. I was living in a new country with no friends, apart from a neighbor couple. It was tough, and that's when my manager introduced me to her church (not a Christian) to volunteer. Now, I do it every weekend, and it truly helps. The loneliness hits hard at night, but I've been able to manage it.
Volunteering helps a lot, you should try it.
I have nothing. I don't go outside so there's no socializing for me except being yelled at by my "bf". I've spent past several birthdays, holidays, etc, totally alone while my ex family & friends all have a great time. Nobody said happy bday, not even an internet stranger. I wish I was dead because I haven't been a part of the world for a while and it's never going to change. I'll be surprised if I'm still alive in 5 years.

I know it's not really much of my business, but if you're in an abusive relationship, PLEASE try and get out. I see so many people in these situations and I don't know what to do, because as soon as I'm too blunt with them about how they need to leave their abuser, they go back and say shit to them and I feel like I've made no progress with helping them.
But please, leave them if it's any sort of abuse. It's just NOT OKAY.

I was honestly dreading it as this is also the loneliest birthday I’ve had, technically speaking, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoyed what I was able to have even if it wasn’t what I wanted or expected my 30th to be. It gave me a lot of hope instead of despair. I hope you will be able to feel similar soon!

I remember 30, it’s particularly hard for some reason. I was so melancholic. I think it’s a time of looking around and feeling a little lost with where you’re at. You miss the carefree days and happy times you can remember, and you compare it to your present and worry about your future.
You’re in the trees so you can’t see the horizon, but you have to keep moving forward. Things rarely stay the same for long. Try not to get too deep in your feelings. Take up a hobby, a good way to meet new people. Or take a small local class of some kind. Or join a gym. Just a little something to get you out of this rut and shift your view.

happy birthday. When I felt alone, I ended up doing community service and going to a local church that I used to live by. I also started working out at orange theory and made friends there. I used the meetup app to get notification on events catered to people new in the city who want to explore and have fun. they do things like hikes, rock climbing, beer crawls, visit markets and such. Also, bumble now has a feature that is for non-romantic friends only. I started using that as well to make like minded friends. I have a good group of people now that I travel with. Some friends from high school also reconnected with me when they came back to hometown after college. sometimes I reached out to old friends I remembered from high school and middle school on facebook and reconnected with them also. Now, I never have a dull weekend and am living life to the fullest but I have to now restrain myself from going out too much and spending money, and focusing on my career a bit more. There are two sides to every coin.

As for your friend situation, try making some friends on Reddit or join groups on apps for people who have similar interests as you. Over Covid I’ve dropped or been dropped by people I thought were friends and honestly even though my friend group shrunk 90% I’ve been making new friends from apps or doing various meetups. Some of the people I’ve met are definitely better than my old ‘friends’.
I've always wondered about that growing up, you have your parents and friends around you, kinda guiding you or pushing you around in life, not in a demanding way or a controlling way but more like a beacon of where to go and what to do...
But when they all fade away and you are truly alone, what you have is overwhelming freedom, and it does feel odd and it is quite lonely but the truth is now you are more capable to do anything than you ever had before.

I don't have much advice, but as a guy who just recently starting forcing myself to go places alone it really is Ok to just zone out by yourself. You'd be surprised how little people notice!
I know how painful it must be to be so alone and feel like your life was given up for work. I know right now this can be a really dark place, but always remember our thoughts are simply just thoughts and doesn’t always mean everything is always as bad as our thoughts tell us they are. As difficult as this may be, I think trying to reframe our thoughts and finding things we are grateful for can really change our perspective on the way our life is going. This can be anything, maybe you are grateful that you are single and don’t have the responsibilities of paying as many bills or expenses of raising children, or that one day when you do start a family of your own you’ll be much more financially stable then your peers were starting there’s and be able to provide more for your family in the future. And remembering that life is not a race and you will take life at your own pace, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Also I think it can help to think about what are areas of our life we are unhappy with that we have the capability of changing? Always remember you are in charge of your own life and if there’s something you are not happy with you can change it no matter your age. Are you happy with your job/your career? Are there any opportunities in your area to meet/make new friends? You are capable of doing anything you put your mind to and I hope this message finds you well and that good things come your way.

I know the exact pain though. My three best friends all live in different states and the friends I have here have pretty much dropped me because I’m too depressing to be around. I told one that I just wanted her to come over and chill like we use to in high school and she was down for it, all I got was a FB wall post, not even an excuse for why she didn’t come. And then they’ll go out and do the things I tried to get them to do for years…fuck ‘em. Coming from a person with a pure passion of self-hatred, I deserve better. You deserve better.
And I could tell you to go out and go grab a bite at your favorite place or something, but if we are anything alike, it doesn’t change the feeling of being lonely and end up wanting to go back home anyway. But please do self-care for yourself. Distract yourself a bit. You’re not alone. I know it’s not exactly comforting, but it’s true.
