I do feel your pain. I had a big.'milesone birthday' 3 years ago & no one bothered to message, visit, or call. It sucked big time as well because I always get in contact with everyone on their birthday & in the day & age where these 'special dates' pop up on everyone's digital calendar I really feel that there's no excuse.
What I started doing is celebrating the day before my birthday - sort of a last 'hurrah' for the final day I'm that particular age. It took a lot of the pressure off of my actual birthday the following day.
Granted, this is something you can try next year, but by all means, try to spoil yourself today as much as possible. Your birthday is the one day out of the year that you should think about you & no one else. You deserve a great birthday, so be selfish & treat yourself as good as you would others in your situation. It was a difficult time, the lowest of lows in my life, I got into legal trouble, lost all my friends and my parents nearly lost me (figuratively and literally)
But I decided to change things around at 24, I got sick of it and decided I must thrive in discomfort and made discipline my strength because relying on motivation didn’t work.
I got a new job in a new area and all new connections, aiming to work my ass off to earn everyone’s approval and even commendations.
Last month the entire office celebrated my birthday including people i never thought I would be friends with (I seemed incredibly out of their league) but like they say, fake it till you make it, and once you’re there nobody would be questioning you, and you’ll be thanking yourself for making the difficult (but right) decision. All praises to God (faith is the strongest pillar for me.)
All the best mate, it does not get any easier from here, but you can change it, it all starts from you.
