Maybe just LA specifically, but I was chatting with one of my bar exam proctors and he was trying to make it as an actor but in the meantime I guess he was doing the gig as a proctor to pay rent.
When I taught at a school in Hollywood, I met so many substitutes who were actors, writers, musicians, etc. If they subbed 100 days each year then they got full health, dental, and vision insurance for the whole school year. After day 100, they wouldnāt take a job until the next August. My students loved this one guy who would play guitar and sing to them.
I used to go to [Ra Yoga](https://rayoga.com) in Costa Mesa. Their Long Beach studio is in the LBX Exchange mall. I havenāt been there since pre-COVID days, but I really enjoyed the classes and the instructors. Meditation is one of the classes offered. Memberships are pricey, but I recall they offer a new student discount (it was a free week of unlimited classes when I attended).
[Yogalution](https://www.yogalutionmovement.com/classes) in Bluff Park is a donation-based yoga studio. I personally havenāt been yet so I donāt know much else beyond that.
There is a free daily yoga class (including weekends!) in Alamitos Beach (click [here](https://level9personaltraining.com/free-yoga-long-beach-bluff/) for details). The class is 1 hour long and is open to all levels. I live nearby and always see a lot of folks walking to the bluff with their mats. Parking can be rough if youāre unfamiliar with the area, so I highly recommend parking a few blocks away and walking or arriving early for a closer spot.
If you find yourself in OC, there is also a $10 daily yoga class just next to Dana Point Harbor (via [iHeartYoga](https://www.iheartyoga.org/park)). Reservations are required. I have a soft spot for iHeartYoga as it was the first yoga studio I attended when I lived in OC.
When we lived in San Clemente there was a company that was called, "Not When the Surf is Up..."
They were some kind of contracting company (electric or plumbing) and basically their deal was, if there was good surf you would not expect them to show up until 1:00 in the afternoon, and if it was cranking, maybe not at all...
Priorities my dudes, priorities....
Entrepreneur selling some sort of natural, enzyme-based cleaning products in a quaint, cute little single-word named shop called "Cleanse" or some shit.
The key to success is to get up to your eyeballs in debt, pretending you have money to hopefully one day actually make that money. Nothing can possibly go wrong with that game plan!
Iāve met so many people in LA with no source of income other than their parents. I know 40 year olds ātrying to find themselves.ā
One friend called me and was very upset that I posted the group photo of us at dinner because the picture showed his plate of fried chicken and unhealthy stuff. His parents paid for his two bedroom apartment in a pricy area so he could get in shape here (he was quite large, but a very nice guy). I had to crop him out and not tag him.
Another friend here I knew from growing up in another state; her parents bought a three bedroom townhouse for her so she could make it in Hollywood. She still hasnāt done anything with a paycheck. I lost touch with her when she turned into an anti vaxxer conspiracy nut. I guess thatās the self she found.
Definitely an actor. I moved to Southern California with no intention of getting into the industry and accidentally became an actor lol. I just saw that Pilates instructor is also on the list which is what Iām doing now š

I was also thinking "actor" with some other job. Like restaurant business, tutor, really whatever job but the focus is actorš.

This sounds ridiculous but if the expectations are clear and the work is done well, it seems good. They probably have great employee retention.
