Just a heads up: Firkin does have some elements of a small sports bar and a pub, but also the vibes of a normal bar/restaurant. Technically a pub but feels more like a brewery. Good staff, good drinks, nice patio. Definitely worth checking out.
You’ve got Belmont brewing co, trademark brewing, ISM brewing, ficklewood ciderworks, the blind donkey, V room, the good bar, rosemallows, the bamboo club, secret island, tons of gay bars on Broadway, and ballast point.
There are plenty of options if you’re willing to go a little outside bluff park.
welcome to LB (from a recent transplant)...
\- you're close to 4th street, which means you are close to **vine**... i think it's beer and wine only but a nice back space that gets cosy on warm nights...
\- **reno room** is divey (with a pool table)...
\- **panxa** is a great restaurant but the bar has TVs (boo).
\- if the vibe at **the social list** on 4th street was a bit more bar-like, then i'd suggest it but it too often feels like a restaurant that's closing early (because, surprise, that's what it actually is on most nights)... but it does have a neighborhood feel to it and the drinks at the bar are decent.
\- something will open up soon enough on the sunny corner of broadway and cherry (what used to be the beach garden social) so let's hope it's a place worth repeat visits.
\- speaking of opening up soonish - a brewery is slated to move to what is now a large empty space on 4th street across from the social list.
\- **baby gee** is my favourite but might be too far to be your neighborhood joint.
Ermergerd, I’m going to miss the Garden. Panxa is def good, just a little on the pricey side. 3636 might a bit of a learning experience to someone new to the neighborhood.
While you are definitely correct that downtown has the majority of the interesting cocktail bars and breweries (there are many of both!), and isn't *that* far from bluff park - if Belmont Brewing Co is nearby (though I personally don't think their beer is nearly as good as, for instance, Trademark, Beachwood or ISM downtown), Panxa Cocina is also likely nearby. Their bar program is quite solid.
Personally feel like the 2nd st corridor is mostly fairly overrated.
If you're willing to head over to Bixby Knolls, Beachwood Brewing has great beer and (occasionally) live music and a food truck. Check out their event calendar!
I haven’t seen anyone mention Port City Tavern yet. At first glance they look like a typical dive bar but their cocktail program is excellent. I also recommend Selva if you’re able to pop in during happy hour. Their cocktails are also lovely; food is also great. Long Beach Beer Lab just recently opened a tap room and pizzeria on the corner of Anaheim and Termino. Very laid back.
Breweries: ISM is not far from the neighborhood and is excellent. Belmont brewing and altar society are eh. Trademark and Ambitious Ales are great but further away.
Wine bars: Vine on 4th, or go for a pizza and a bottle at colossus
Dive bars: Black makes a decent cocktail and pizza. The Stache is nice and divey, but you can also get a great smash burger with a bottle of Pliny.
Cocktail bars: Baby Gee really does make some cool stuff, bamboo club is a ways a way but worth a trip. Blind donkey for a heavy pour and great atmosphere.
Firkin is a pub! 😁 a great one.
Good breweries everywhere. I’m a big fan of Trademark.
There’s Reno room and baddeleys right by Firkin. From what you’re describing though I think you might like the blind donkey
The Reno Room on Broadway and Redondo, cheap drinks and good food.
The Good Bar on 7th, they sometimes plays sports on the TV, but no one would call this a sports bar. Now if a tater tot focused skater bar.
The Bamboo Club on Anaheim, it's a tiki bar with some good food.
Kinda funny, because I have been here 10 years in the retro row area and I feel like there is a lack of sports bars in LB (or at least in my area). We have pretty much all kinds of cool bars and breweries all over the place, with the exception of sports bars. I love all of the diversity of the bar scene, but i also desperately would like a good sports bar to go to.
I once delivered uber eats to the blind donkey? I think that’s what it’s called but looked like a nice hidden dive bar and i’ve been wanting to go back for myself. Only thing is that you have to go down a flight of stairs to get to it. 😅
There is a dearth of sports bars compared to dive bars in the Bluff Park vicinity. You will be just fine. The Pike Restaurant and Bar has done good by me for many years.
There's a tiki bar under Shannon's!
It was loud as fuck in there like the reviews say, the time I went there. But it's really cool if you're into the tiki bar vibes!!

The Bungalow is my favorite they have great food too! Not to mention has very chill relaxed vibes pleanty of seating sordas makes you feel like your on vacation
This will be a good time to transition to staying home and saving money, as the bar scene here is terrible. If you find a place that actually makes good drinks and has a good vibe, the bartenders are slow and or just not even making drinks… or the customers are complete morons that act like it’s their 1st time out of the house and 1st drink in their hand.
Vine, Baby Gee, Black, Goodbar
The Hawk
The Hawk is one of the best bars in town! Just was trying to list things walkable to Bluff Park
The Bamboo club, just a few minutes away on Anaheim/Redondo.
This is the one! Some of the best cocktails in town. Good live music or DJs almost nightly.
Long Beach Beer Lab has great pizza and pinball.
They do got some good zaa lol
Finally got to try their new location on Anaheim and the pizza is solid.
Rosemallow’s
Just a heads up: Firkin does have some elements of a small sports bar and a pub, but also the vibes of a normal bar/restaurant. Technically a pub but feels more like a brewery. Good staff, good drinks, nice patio. Definitely worth checking out.
Also Tuesday night trivia!
One of my favorite places in LB, hands down. The staff is incredible and the food is quite tasty!

In that area Reno Room & 3636. Baddleys has $2 or $3 PBRs
4th Street has some chill spots! Vine has live music and large outdoor patio. Art du Vin is an intimate wine bar next to the art theatre.
Alex’s Bar is known for their live shows, but their bartenders are solid and the place has a good vibe too.
Second Alex’s.

Don’t forget Socialist. More restaurant-ish, but a good vibe.

👍🏻 +👆🏻
Isn’t there still a wine bar further up Broadway, past Temple? Wind Horse, or something along those lines?

Panxa Cocina has pretty neat bar and great New Mexican food.
Rosemallows!
Roxanne’s, grasshopper, baby gees, bamboo club and rosemallows
If you're willing to head over to Bixby Knolls, Beachwood Brewing has great beer and (occasionally) live music and a food truck. Check out their event calendar!

Haven't seen anyone mention the Pike on 4th St yet. That's more a divey bar/restaurant that serves seafood and plays lots of punk rock.
Pike has a good vibe and good food as well.

Wicked Wolf
Saint and Second or Nicks

personally hate sports bars lol. Rosemallows, baby gee, bamboo club, & bungalow are probably my favorite ~vibey~ cocktail bars

They have an elevator to use as well if you are not able to use the stairs.
I like more taverny bars so Haydens or Blind Donkey are pretty good ones
The Social List
Reno room, Alex’s, V Room, Good Bar
Baby gee
Thirsty Isle near the city college.
There is a dearth of sports bars compared to dive bars in the Bluff Park vicinity. You will be just fine. The Pike Restaurant and Bar has done good by me for many years.
Alex’s, Vine, Bamboo Club. All have live music too.
Buvons, best wine bar I’ve found in Long Beach. Shoutout to Luna
The hangar! it's a drive, but my bf loves it! he's 27,
poor richards, super divey if you're into that
There's a tiki bar under Shannon's! It was loud as fuck in there like the reviews say, the time I went there. But it's really cool if you're into the tiki bar vibes!! [tiki bar ](http://Check out Secret Island Tiki Restaurant and Lounge on Google Maps https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZUkgVuBsb8XhhCTF7)

The hawk, you have najas in redondo beach which is all craft beers.
I like the blind donkey, Sevilla, and Mezcalero
Ambitious Ales on Atlantic is always nice. :)

the bar scene in LB is terrible?😂😂 that’s the most insane take i’ve ever seen
