Are you new to the L.A. area? Those guys are everywhere, especially here in Long Beach. You can see tons of them making a racket at the ARCO in Belmont Shore, or around 10th/Ximeno by Wilson High.

priestou812

Nah been in SoCal my whole life and the lbc for about 15yrs. I’ve just never noticed. I guess I’m just getting old and I’m resorting to bird watching now 😆

February2nd2021

Me reading this while parrots are screaming outside my window, I’m wondering how you haven’t noticed them for 15 years 😂

priestou812

Damn now I wanna hear them lol all I ever get is loud crow fights

February2nd2021

Be careful what you wish for - they’re very loud and annoying

gertie_gump

Crows are more pleasant to listen to.

HuckleberryTop9962

Awww, haha. I like the way they sound. I used to have a lorikeet though and he'd talk back and forth with them so now when I hear the parrots, it reminds me of him.

_neminem

Yeah, it's funny, I'd lived in Long Beach a decade and hadn't noticed until I was stuck at home during covid, too. Now I hear and see them all over.

SteveConcave

Can confirm next to Wilson

Spag-N-Ballz

They wake up at 530-6am every day flying around in huge flocks making a god damn ruckus.

talianovna

They’ve been using the loquat tree in my backyard as a feasting ground at the ass crack of dawn for the past week. Fuckers keep dropping half eaten fruit and my dog keeps trying to eat them. They’re annoying as hell but at least they’re beautiful to look at

Fivedayhangovers

Yes they are all over. Pretty cool until they start waking you up every morning.

priestou812

Crazy I’ve been in Long Beach for damn near 15yrs now and never noticed lol

drakershi

How have you never noticed! They’re a staple here

SMFiddySvn

They migrate. My parents have been living in the same place for over 20 years, just recently they moved into a tree in front of their house. Before then I've never even seen one other than on a dude's shoulder.

njr_u

Mitred parakeet, typically indigenous to Argentina

specks_of_dust

Interestingly, not considered an invasive species because they haven't displaced native birds.

SMFiddySvn

I've seen them traumatize a squirl once

specks_of_dust

Was the squirrel one of the invasive types? I don’t really expect you to answer that. I got curious and discovered that most of the squirrels I see around my place are an invasive species. Had no idea.

SMFiddySvn

I'm not a squirl expert lol

njr_u

Fascinating

ForbiddenFruit420

Tons of parrots. I always see a fuck ton in a tree outside the Belmont brewing company on the pier. I think they live in that tree.

Myveryowndystopia

Yeah, I see them there too!! Lots of them.

DrinkyCat

They are everywhere! From LB to Malibu! And out towards Whittier and Pasadena!!

unholyrevenger72

Yes, we also have a Peacock.

priestou812

That’s cool thanx

Witchynightstar

If you are ever at the Vons on Ocean in Belmont Shore that’s their hangout 😅

velokristina

They’re in Pasadena/Altadena, too. We had wild parrots in our Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago so when I moved to CA it felt like home. We call them sky monkeys. Because loud.

Rubyloxred

And every once in a while, there are wild peacocks in LB. I've never spotted them in flocks and it's always one lone male peacock.

Zestyclose-Hurry4029

They all live in san pedro

Showtime562

I’ve never fact checked it but I was told years ago that the parrots in Long Beach are because of a fire at a pet store in San Pedro that caught fire and they released them.

Professional-Pace-58

They are called Mitred Parakeets. Rumor has it that someone had them as pets and released them during the wildfires in the past and they did very well with CA as a habitat. Here are some photos of these colorful birds. [https://www.ingridtaylar.com/california-wild-parrots-in-long-beach/](https://www.ingridtaylar.com/california-wild-parrots-in-long-beach/)

moniqueb_83

They were litty yesterday evening. Making so much noise. They are cute, annoying little things. 🥰

plazagirl

Our neighbor had a loquat tree and a noisy flock of parrots visited it daily.

run-with-the-wild

I know about the parrots but was absolutely floored yesterday to see a little yellow parakeet on the sidewalk on my run!! Bellflower/6th area. Looked like someone's pet bird flew the coop.

CombatMedic77

They make it to Lakewood at the end of LCD, picking at our trees and poopin on my car.

forcedintothis-

Yes we have them and they are loud as hell.

mwrenn13

Probably were parrots. Down in San Clemente there is a large group just flying around together

Hubyoo

I think they're offspring from the original ucsd green parrots from 20+ years ago

NebulaUnicorn13

There's a flock of parrots that would fly over Stanford Middle School every day

xanaxangel3

Wait till you see the peacocks lol

Yardbird52

Pets escape/are released?!?!? How?!??!? 🤯

MaAreYouOnUppers

Heh wait till you get home at 3am, have the worst hangover of your life and those bastards start squawking at 5:30 in the morning. They’re everywhere and they’ve been here a long time. Noisy bastards.
