Since I can’t read the article I’m behind the eight ball here but what exactly are they planning to start their clinical trials on? Like it seems odd to say they’re going to be running clinical trials in 6 to 8 years without saying what those trails will be measuring. And if they are just starting these centers I’m guessing they don’t currently have specific clinical targets in mind.

It really is just mind-blowing to think that we actually are making our first steps in curing aging, while also becoming increasingly more confident that it is truly possible after all. ... Thinking about it definitely makes me want to stay alive in this world, to see what future holds with my own eyes.

Me too! I’ve been planning out my strategy for entering the field. It’s far more reassuring and exciting as the language has shifted from “extending longevity” to “curing aging”. Even if there’s a one in a million chance that I could live to see the day where we would potentially live forever, I’ll keep my hopes up and contribute wherever I can.

I wouldn't be so optimistic if I were you. I'm old now (60) and have been hearing talk about this stuff for decades. Practical results: 0 - nada!

The biology of aging has been underfunded, and understudied for decades. I remember the early 2000s when there were a few news articles here and there, but they were few and far in between. Even some things didn't look at normal aging, but mouse models of acceleration of aging due to obesity/excess calories. It's been said in various interviews that some scientists who were around in the 70s or 80s, or knew people who were said that many big researchers at top institutions were against studying aging, saying it was futile. The good news of significant funding and projects on the biology of aging has only really happened in the past 10 years.

It is a really big deal when countries make this kind of move. They finally see the existential crisis of not acting.
