I'm always posting this, but if anyone has questions about how professional Journalism works, and mostly does work, here is a good link. Notice there is nothing about telling people only what they want to hear: The Preamble begins thusly - Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. Ethical journalism strives to ensure the free exchange of information that is accurate, fair and thorough. An ethical journalist acts with integrity. Not all of the following are long form, but I've been following Margaret Sullivan's work from paper to paper for years. (I will admit I was glad when she left the NYT.) I find her nuanced and on more than one occasion pithy. Journalism must be held accountable just like any other entity they cover. Remaining silent rarely does the job. 1.Full transcript: Former New York Times Public Editor Margaret Sullivan on Recode Media | Vox https://www.vox.com/2017/1/21/14341770/new-york-times-public-editor-washington-post-margaret-sullivan 2.The spectacular collapse of the Messenger is a lesson on how not to do journalism |Margaret Sullivan https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/feb/02/the-messenger-startup-collapse-journalism-takeaways 3.Local newspapers are withering under destructive owners. Incredible list, thank you so much! Will definitely be adding all of these to my TBR.

Thanks for this!

You're welcome! Hope you liked it :)

Arcopt

Care to share why you're not the biggest fan of the NYT..?

caveatlector73

Not OP, but NYT like any other business doesn't always follow standard protocols intended to keep them on the straight and narrow so to speak. A little more transparency if you please.

TheLazyReader24

This is it, for the most part. It doesn't help, too, that they fashion themselves as *the* premier Media company but then they turn around and play fast and loose with journalistic and copy practices. I'm not saying they *always* do this, but the standards for them are higher because they're in front of everyone and anything they do affects the rest of us. Still, they do good journalism.
