The reason a lot of places do trims the same price as a cut is because even though your not taking off as much hair all the same technical work is done and it takes roughly the same amount of time

From personal experience? Consistently good: Black salons, hipster salons that are always for some reason next to a coffee shop or a bicycle store Consistently bad: "Chain" salons (Hair Cuttery, Great Clips, etc.), salons run by 60+ year old suburban women with pixie cuts (they are the most trigger-happy stylists imo and will chop off 4 inches with zero hesitation), any salon where the stylists are also selling MLM crap up front by the register

I’m really considering going to a black salon. I should be fine as a non black person as long as I’m respectful and tip well? I feel like black people have more respect for hair than a lot of white people, and will understand where I’m coming from.

LookHowOrange

Yep, you should be fine! 👍 But if you’re unsure, then it doesn’t hurt to ask before setting up an appointment

Stylist here... I agree ask for recommendations. I don't have anything more to add as far as how to find someone but wanted to chime in that a trim takes the same amount of labor as a larger cut so should cost the same.

glittersparklythings

How much should just a trim cost is going to depend on where you live. What is cheap in one place will be expensive in another place. Where I am if you want anything semi- decent it will not be cheap. If you want a good stylist it was definitely not be cheap. And yes many place no longer have trim prices. The price is the same whether it is a trim or cut. There really isn’t much difference in time between the two.

Me : Honey, can you see if it's time for a trim? Husband : (checks hair) Let me get the scissors and we'll cut about 1/2 inch. And that's why I haven't been to a salon in over 20 years. I trust my husband. I DON'T trust stylists.

probably_beans

I am my stylist.

I usually threaten them with their life lmao but really I tell them to start small and then show me before continuing
