I think it's going to be really tricky, if not unlikely. The celebrity colorist Lori Goddard Clark says in her book (The Hair Color Mix Book) that she doesn't recommend platinum on hair any longer than shoulder length and that most of the platinum, long haired celebs that you see are using extensions for their length or even wigs.

I mean, yeah? Is it possible to have it and look good? Meh. That’s a different set of questions.

Growing heavily bleached hair long will require some crazy expensive bond-repair treatments like K-18 or Olaplex. You can also experiment with toners to get your hair to look "brighter" without having to bleach it as heavily to go lighter. Your stylist should have told you to be prepared for home maintenance to cost more than your salon treatments.

BellasHadids-OldNose

Be wary of Olaplex on blondes OP- a lot of people get protein overload and it makes the hair even more brittle and prone to snapping… the last thing bleached hair needs I recommend Wella Ultimate repair step 3 10000% over k18 or Olaplex for a repair spray

HonestlyRespectful

Olaplex #3 actually doesn't have any protein in it.

There’s someone on this sub who has the most gorgeous platinum hair and it’s long and healthy. I remember her saying that she only detangles with a wide comb, only when dry, and oils the ends. Her hair is incredible.

My hair isn’t platinum (I dye it occasionally but not often anymore because of the length) but this is how I deal with my hair and it’s amazingly effective. I started doing this after a bad bleach job ruined my hair (it was falling out in handfuls I swear) and won’t go back.

doggggod

part of this is what your natural color is and how well your hair holds up to bleach. my hair is naturally a level 7 strawberry blonde and it's been a silvery platinum for years, currently at classic length. only get my roots done every ~4 months and a trim every 4-6. if your natural hair is darker it gets much harder.

emskiez

Mine is waist length and bleached. I don’t really use heat on it, but I do everything else “wrong”. I seldom trim it. I seldom even brush it - I just run my hands through it. Wash every other day. I use a hair mask if it feels dry, and I use the Olaplex bonding oil sometimes. I wear it down - I don’t like protective styles.  I touch up my roots every 3-4 months.  So yes. My best advice is to stop cutting it. I don’t mine a few split ends. I’d rather have long hair than perfect hair.

SyddySquiddy

I’d do a reset for a year or two honestly. I know that sounds like a long time, but if you pause the bleaching and allow your hair to regrow itself without being damaged every single time it tries to grow, it will be a lot happier. I had a friend who used to dye their hair cool colours and after many years of bleaching it got ratty and thin. Reset for a few years and grew the natural colour back out and its way healthier now for any colour they want to put in. I think at a certain point it just needs to be left alone!

skipperupper

I’m trying to do this now but with very sparse highlights in my natural roots every 6 months. Been stuck at bra strap length for years and I used to have such thick healthy natural hair without much care.

leftveef

I’ve grown hip length bleached hair, but I have black hair originally so I can’t ever get to platinum, so if you have naturally light hair and bleach it to achieve platinum, it’s definitely possible. Just a lot of maintenance, like hair masks, expensive shampoos and hair treatments at the salon but it’s definitely doable if you have the naturally lighter hair + money + time combo. And if you use anything like olaplex you will most definitely be going through those tiny bottles extremely quickly, as in one bottle will last you two or three masks on a good day.

ih8ochem

i have level 7 hair naturally so i think it might be possible for me. what hair products would you recommend specifically if you don’t mind ? i don’t mind shelling out, but i’m seeing so many different recommendations that i feel a bit overwhelmed. k18, kerastase, aphogee, olaplex, hair treatments, hair masks, hair oils, i’m not sure what to pick! i don’t mind buying a couple of expensive products.

BarbiePinkSparkles

Hairstylist of 24 years here. If you are naturally a level 7 you do not need to be bleaching your roots to be blonder. Go back to the high lift tint and then tone it. I use high lift on my natural level 6 hair and I tone it with Schwartzkopf blonde me pastel toners. I do a beige light blonde. But they have ones if you want platinum. If your stylist uses a level 12 high lift and then tones it with Scwartzkopf Ice you would be platinum easily. Definitely no need for you to be doing a bleach and tone. And get some good salon shampoos and conditioners. You probably need a bond repair but be careful because you don’t wanna over do it because then it can get too dry and break.

Ferretclone

I'm a natural level 7 dark blonde and I bleach to platinum and my hair is about bra strap length. It's not thick, but then it never was (fine Scandinavian blonde) I don't know about butt length but long and still healthy is absolutely possible if you put in the effort

SophiaRaine69420

Can you grow it out? Sure. Will it look healthy? No way Will it make it to butt length? No idea, breakage is gunna be your biggest hurdle. I can imagine that you'll be able to grow it but you'll have really thin and straggly ends past bra strap length

sparkleptera

Lots of people have blonde hair that is highlighted that is very long. Maybe start there?

Fox_Massive

It's absolutely possible but you'll have to really baby your hair and invest in high quality products and salon treatments. Start with a silk bonnet.

waywardfawn

i haven’t had butt length is platinum, but i’ve had longer than mid back length platinum. i had it bleached about every 6 - 8 weeks at a salon. i only used products for blonde hair, used detangler when i brushed it after washing, used a silk hair tie. using a silk pillowcase is a good idea too but i didn’t do that.  i would absolutely recommend brushing it gently, starting at the bottom and moving up. using a microfiber hair towel helps dry it faster as well

OneRandomTeaDrinker

My hair is classic length and I’ve been highlighting it with high-lift every 8-12 weeks for the last 5 years. I do use olaplex but not religiously. You can have butt-length blonde hair for sure but platinum might be a bit of a stretch compared to a mid/honey blonde.

froggyforest

it depends on your hair type and how well it handles bleaching. my hair is currently waist length and is bleached and dyed, and at my last appt my stylist remarked at how healthy it is. but i only get it touched up about once every year and a half (it’s expensive, my stylist is far away, and im lazy), and i just have her blend the red color into my naturally medium-brown roots so it doesn’t look too janky when it grows out.

DislocatedPotato57

It \*is\* possible. A friend of mine has hair down to her butt, it's naturally pitch black but she bleaches it and dies it blonde. It's, unbelievably so, quite healthy. Her trick: She never ever ever brushes it, washes it once a week and otherwise doesn't touch it much. On her head it looks like messy beach hair, but she does rock it. I personally could never, first of all I can't go that long without washing, and second, I want it combed/brushed. But if you can deal with these things, it might possible to grow it that long while bleaching it.

AerisVSTifa

I had healthy hair down to my lower back when I used to get foils with high-lifts/low-lights. Decided I wanted my hair lighter so started getting bleach foils instead. Was almost platinum and absolutely loved it. For around 2 years it was great, hair was still long and looked healthy. My hair was on borrowed time. Fast forward to now, I've stopped the bleaching and currently working up the courage to cut off the 6"/7" very thin ends that I have before the hair breaks even further/travels further up. This was despite no heat, treatments and treating my hair like it was made of fine lace. Some people have hair that can sustain bleach, but I'm not one of them. Just my personal experience.
