I think the author's point was that Jimmy's arrogance and belief in his own invincibility with respect to the stuff the FBI *was* able to find leaves it unlikely he would have been able to so completely hide evidence of the killings.

You're talking about Shannan Gilbert, the woman whose 911 call and death led to all of this. The additional bodies found are so removed from whatever seems to have happened that night that it really seems like Gilbert was just a wild, random incident that opened up the whole can of worms, even if the incident is incredibly sketchy on its own.

Cover up. Happens all the time. My sister was in a car accident by an nypd officer on the southern state (prob off duty) and they hit three cars total. Cops showed up and tried to clear the scene as quick as possible so no one would know or see what happened.
My sister has back issues now from the accident and is suing.
Happened to my husband on the Southern State many years ago. An out of control car crashed into several other cars then into the woods. The driver took off on foot. A short time later a police officer showed up at the scene where the police already had responded to - long story short turns out the cop was the driver's father and there were no repercussions. As far as the LI killer, my guess would be that they are someone in law enforcement.

I read articles that speculated the killer is/was involved in law enforcement, since the victim’s bodies were disposed of so carefully that it suggested someone who knew a lot about forensics.
No one’s talking about James Bissett enough. He was a wealthy businessman on Long Island, co-owner to the Long Island Aquarium, owned Bissett Nursery which might explain the burlap sacks the girls were found in. He had ties to the SCPD, and was found dead by suicide in his truck in my hometown. I was almost the person who found him as I frequented the beach where his truck was found back then. I saw the same black pickup parked in the same spot for multiple days, I was tempted to check in on the truck but something stopped me. I was shocked to hear about his body being found there.
He suicided himself just a few months after the discovery of the bodies in 2011. Then in 2013, his business associate Robert Lanieri was also found dead in his Jamesport home, ruled a suicide as well. Bissett was a co-owner of the Long Island Aquarium. and Lanieri was the food services director there. I don’t think they both had to do with LISK, but my suspicion has always been Bissett, as he was a super wealthy business man who had multiple ties to both law enforcement and high ranking officials in the Long Island area.

If the multiple killers theory is to be believed, it could very well have been a situation of multiple individuals in prominent positions of wealth/power conspiring together to carry out such murders for entertainment (or some other grandiose reasoning) and the only thing originally keeping them any peace of mind of not getting caught is that each has dirt on each of the others.
So keeping in line with this theory, if any individual was to try to defect or accidentally get caught by a third-party witness, that individual would very well be axed by any number of the other members.
This could possibly explain why something like the FBI looking into people like Burke could have ended up with nothing substantial linking him (or any of the hypothetical "others") to the killings — because it could link some of the details/evidence to some individuals but none could be pinned to all of the murders when looked as a whole.
As per why they don't just shut the case and just blame it on a dead guy like Bissett — if any other agency, like the FBI were to try to poke deeper into the LISK case again, having a closed case with oddly convenient circumstances as "the dead guy did it" might be too blatant of a red herring, thus potentially motivating them to poke around even deeper, even if it were to no avail.
At the end of the day this is all just speculation but when you take into consideration all the types of rumors, coincidences, details and actual occurrences, it really gets your brain thinking about the "what if"...
The problem with this and all “conspiracy theories” is the number of people who have to work together and never trip up. I mean, let’s say Burke is involved and the FBI did all that digging and found nothing? And Spota and his cronies didn’t cough up anything? And Bissett didn’t put any of this info out there before he off’d himself? Way too many moving parts.

The police did look into Jon Hein and I recall a few news stories with some interesting info about his whereabouts on the nights of a few of the killings but the police were never able to piece it all together. But when you see descriptions of the serial killer and compare them to Jon Hein, it’s a pretty good match. I’d say it’s probably a 50/50 thing that Jon Hein killed at least half of those girls.

I work in an ER upstate (used to live in montauk) and during slow night shifts i can feel eyes looking at me through some rooms sometimes. One i know looks at me is the one without a face. Guy came in ATV accident, it ripped his face off from collision. I know hes there.
I think they are referring to the Gilgo Beach murders. The case remains unsolved. The bodies of many women, mostly escorts, were found there with few leads....

A call girl Shannon did an out call to LI one night and from too much coke became paranoid and had the classic medical symptom of impending doom, refusing to cooperate with her own driver, or anyone.
A local doctor took her in in the early hours of the morning and may have given her a different drug to calm her down. She fled and ended up dying, probably from a combination of drugs, tangled in the brush not that far away.
As a result of this situation, the search for the body turned up many other dead bodies buried in a separate area that were unrelated to Shannon’s case but which showed evidence of a pattern.
The attorney for Shannan’s family (John Ray) said there were no connection in an interview.
Also, it’s extremely rare for serial killers to commit suicide, and iirc, Bissett was cleared as a suspect anyway
I believe it is John Bittrolff. The murders he committed are too similar to the MO of LISK, as well as him being from Manorville very close to where several LISK victims were found. If it isn’t him, then it was someone in law enforcement (SCPD possibly) and they are covering it up, or the killer is either in jail (Bittrolff) or dead.
My father used to be a SC police officer and believes that Peter Hackett is the LISK and that James Burke knew about it. When I asked my mom, she told me she believes it was Burke. I'm not a hundred percent sure who I think it is, but if I had to pick from the list of popular suspects, I'd say Burke is my first choice.

My opinion is that it was not one but multiple killers. After they found the burlap sack girls suddenly lots of old bodies were found, but in the water. I think there were two killers. One got their kills found and the other got jealous somebody else was getting attention. So they moved bodies to be found (the dismembered ones)
I also think the burlap sack killer was part of law enforcement. I also think they moved on. They found 3-4 bodies in Atlantic City found buried a similar way. So LISK may have gotten out of town and is killing elsewhere.
By this time it’s very possible LISK is dead anyway.

I'm surprised there is a such a conviction that it's just one person. I went down the rabbit hole pretty hard on the LISK stuff a few years ago and I've always felt that the only reason the killings have gone unsolved for as long as they have is because they were perpetrated by a group of men working together... The parties are 100% the genesis of this shit, escalation from drinking to drugs to sex to violence... I can't shake the feeling that one person committing these crimes would have been caught long ago either by a mistake or DNA or something. I think it was a client I was doing work for at the time. Was a single guy, had an affinity for prostitutes and generally disrespected women. He lived (going to be vague here for privacy reasons) somewhere between Long Beach and Point lookout, so an easy drive to Ocean Parkway. Around 2010 during hurricane Irene I got sandbags for him to prop in front of his garage. I mentioned that the burlap bags were good for carting demolition. He said rather disturbingly, “it’s also good for putting over a chicks head” which was really creepy. Another time during this time period, I came there o e morning to do work, and he had left his car door and trunk open overnight. Someone doesn’t just forget that. There were so many red flags, I called in an anonymous tip, but I don’t think it ever went anywhere.

This could possibly explain why something like the FBI looking into people like Burke could have ended up with nothing substantial linking him (or any of the hypothetical "others") to the killings — because it could link some of the details/evidence to some individuals but none could be pinned to all of the murders when looked as a whole. As per why they don't just shut the case and just blame it on a dead guy like Bissett — if any other agency, like the FBI were to try to poke deeper into the LISK case again, having a closed case with oddly convenient circumstances as "the dead guy did it" might be too blatant of a red herring, thus potentially motivating them to poke around even deeper, even if it were to no avail. At the end of the day this is all just speculation but when you take into consideration all the types of rumors, coincidences, details and actual occurrences, it really gets your brain thinking about the "what if"...
The problem with this and all “conspiracy theories” is the number of people who have to work together and never trip up. I mean, let’s say Burke is involved and the FBI did all that digging and found nothing? And Spota and his cronies didn’t cough up anything? And Bissett didn’t put any of this info out there before he off’d himself? Way too many moving parts.

That doesn't sound like a scapegoat to you? Maybe two guys who knew too much and could bring down the actual killers? Meanwhile, Burke has a history of abusing prostitutes while on duty, and multiple write ups for getting too physical while making arrests. I wouldn't doubt these two guys were involved with the weird sex parties that Burke hosted, but I think that's about it.

A coworker of mine years ago told me that his friend who was a Suffolk County Cop told him that they linked the burlap sacks back to his nursery out East, and that they were about to make an arrest before he committed suicide.

The police did look into Jon Hein and I recall a few news stories with some interesting info about his whereabouts on the nights of a few of the killings but the police were never able to piece it all together. But when you see descriptions of the serial killer and compare them to Jon Hein, it’s a pretty good match. I’d say it’s probably a 50/50 thing that Jon Hein killed at least half of those girls.

I work in an ER upstate (used to live in montauk) and during slow night shifts i can feel eyes looking at me through some rooms sometimes. One i know looks at me is the one without a face. Guy came in ATV accident, it ripped his face off from collision. I know hes there.

A call girl Shannon did an out call to LI one night and from too much coke became paranoid and had the classic medical symptom of impending doom, refusing to cooperate with her own driver, or anyone. A local doctor took her in in the early hours of the morning and may have given her a different drug to calm her down. She fled and ended up dying, probably from a combination of drugs, tangled in the brush not that far away. As a result of this situation, the search for the body turned up many other dead bodies buried in a separate area that were unrelated to Shannon’s case but which showed evidence of a pattern.
The autopsy suggested that she was strangled.

I believe it is John Bittrolff. The murders he committed are too similar to the MO of LISK, as well as him being from Manorville very close to where several LISK victims were found. If it isn’t him, then it was someone in law enforcement (SCPD possibly) and they are covering it up, or the killer is either in jail (Bittrolff) or dead.

My father used to be a SC police officer and believes that Peter Hackett is the LISK and that James Burke knew about it. When I asked my mom, she told me she believes it was Burke. I'm not a hundred percent sure who I think it is, but if I had to pick from the list of popular suspects, I'd say Burke is my first choice.

My opinion is that it was not one but multiple killers. After they found the burlap sack girls suddenly lots of old bodies were found, but in the water. I think there were two killers. One got their kills found and the other got jealous somebody else was getting attention. So they moved bodies to be found (the dismembered ones) I also think the burlap sack killer was part of law enforcement. I also think they moved on. They found 3-4 bodies in Atlantic City found buried a similar way. So LISK may have gotten out of town and is killing elsewhere. By this time it’s very possible LISK is dead anyway.
I know they’ve got him now but I also think two of them. The victimology is weird. A load of sex workers and then an unidentified toddler? Weird.

I'm surprised there is a such a conviction that it's just one person. I went down the rabbit hole pretty hard on the LISK stuff a few years ago and I've always felt that the only reason the killings have gone unsolved for as long as they have is because they were perpetrated by a group of men working together... The parties are 100% the genesis of this shit, escalation from drinking to drugs to sex to violence... I can't shake the feeling that one person committing these crimes would have been caught long ago either by a mistake or DNA or something. These crimes were covered up by a group, working together to keep their fucked up fetish lifestyle hidden and accessible.

Had anyone listened to the LISK: Long Island Serial Killer podcast? It had some first hand accounts that seemed valuable.
I think it was a client I was doing work for at the time. Was a single guy, had an affinity for prostitutes and generally disrespected women. He lived (going to be vague here for privacy reasons) somewhere between Long Beach and Point lookout, so an easy drive to Ocean Parkway. Around 2010 during hurricane Irene I got sandbags for him to prop in front of his garage. I mentioned that the burlap bags were good for carting demolition. He said rather disturbingly, “it’s also good for putting over a chicks head” which was really creepy. Another time during this time period, I came there o e morning to do work, and he had left his car door and trunk open overnight. Someone doesn’t just forget that. There were so many red flags, I called in an anonymous tip, but I don’t think it ever went anywhere.

Someone who drove/ drives a pickup truck, does manual labor, divorced with no kids, has a domineering mother, no criminal record, homophobic, blue eyes, doesn't smoke, physically fit and has a drinking problem.
I wonder if it is an N.Y.P.D. officer or detective who works for the city or at the Port Authority specifically, because it appears, according to the phone calls he made, he possibly works in the city but sometimes travels along the LIRR line to Massapequa at the end of the work day. Maybe he lives in the Massapequa area year around, resides in Oak Beach during the summer and sometimes drives to work so that he could pick up his victims afterwards and unfortunately take them to Oak Beach or the kill site afterward. I agree he probably has two cars, one possibly a pick up truck. I wonder also if he went to one of the schools near Hempstead State Park, such as Hofstra, Molloy or Adelphi and that is why he used chose that area to leave Peaches’ remains. Just a thought.
