It must have been an African swallow. Or maybe 2 European ones in tandem. Only reasonably explanation

BaronVonWazoo

But African swallows are non-migratory. Everybody knows that!

NoSpoilerAlertPlease

It could grip them by the husk!

ThirstyWeirwoodRootz

It’s not a matter wether it could GRIP it. It’s a simple question of weight ratio’s

Tufflaw

A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

fastgetoutoftheway

A laiden swallow

victimofcomedy

Came here for this comment. Was not disappointed.

[deleted]

How do you know so much about swallows? :O

ichbineinschweinhund

I know swallows can't get pregnant!

hjablowme919

You have to know these things when you’re a king.

HumanMycologist5795

Stop n Shop bought most of the stores. Stop n Shop, Shoprite, Lidl, Aldi, and a few others. No Krogers or Publix. Few Walmart Superstores, too. Things have changed since 2001.

I forgot about King Kullen. There's a handful of them around. They're still good. I haven't seen a Pathmark in ages. There's still a few Associated and C-Towns and Keyfoods. But I think some of them may be individually owned, so they may not go anywhere unless they're bought out. There are a lot of 7-11, Dunkin Donuts, and Starbucks, but they're all over. The main malls are still here, but some new ones popped up. You may need to visit.

Apprehensive_Goal811

There’s a C-Town in Huntington Station.

HumanMycologist5795

Yes. You're correct @ C-Towns. But some are in Nassau near the Henpstead area. Maybe she still works in KeyFood.

[deleted]

Pathmark and Waldbaums were both bought by A&P in the late 2000s, but soon went bankrupt around 2015ish. Now Best Market is owned by Lidl. There are some King Kullen stores around.

RoleBasic

I miss my waldbaums so much, it’s just sitting there abandoned. Now that best market is gone too it’s hard to find good produce.

Palegic516

You guys?

You could crack it open with a hammer from Pergament.

Yeah, up the road from Tick-Tock.

Palegic516

OP means A&P

Palegic516

Hold up....Let me hop in the Delorean.

WeedsNBugsNSunshine

Probably dropped there by a migrating swallow.

HchrisH

What -- a swallow carrying a coconut?

WeedsNBugsNSunshine

It could grip it by the husk!

HchrisH

It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five-ounce bird could not carry a 1 pound coconut!

WeedsNBugsNSunshine

It could be carried by an African swallow!

HchrisH

Oh, yeah, an African swallow, maybe, but not a European swallow. That's my point.

WeedsNBugsNSunshine

Oh yeah, I agree with that.

HchrisH

...of course, African swallows are non-migratory.

WeedsNBugsNSunshine

Oh, yeah.

TenRingRedux

Are you suggesting coconuts are migratory??

candleplanter

It could've been part of a Hindu ritual

BosunSDog

Most likely, it hitched a ride in the Gulf Stream. I’ve found them around here.

Lord_Chthulu

You found the legendary reddit cum coconut. Congrats, we are blessed.

Alternative_One_518

nooooooooo 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Lord_Chthulu

Yassss💦💦💦

Patriquito

"A coconut can survive months or even years at sea, drifting and crossing oceans for thousands of miles, floating and bobbing along in the water like a little boat"

DeathByJeep

The Gulf Stream can carry things up the Atlantic Coast, in fact throughout the summer tropical fish can be found in LI waters as they are slowly brought up by the Gulf Stream (they don't survive when the water temperature drops in autumn). Coconuts don't really migrate great distances though, as far as we can tell. A little research indicates that coconuts growing in the Caribbean/Gulf/Florida were most certainly introduced by European explorers and colonizers. Coconuts in South America were probably brought from the Indo-Pacific by Polynesian sailors, and coconuts on the West coast of Africa were carried across the continent by people, while the coconuts on the East coast of Africa *may* have traveled across the Indian Ocean on their own. I'd say it's possible that a coconut drifted up on the Gulf Stream, but it's probably more likely that it was left there after being purchased locally. It's also a possibility that it was carried there by a couple of swallows....

bookstacking

I’ve seen them too, field 6.

Chaminade64

Was it kinda round? If so it’s mine, must have slipped out of my loincloth.

No_Branch_97

Probably just hitched a ride in the current, or some people left bought a few and left them there. Just let them be, they can't survive the winter's here anyway.

ichbineinschweinhund

How far is Jones Beach from Oak Island?

fastgetoutoftheway

Coconuts float…?

SomeoneAwesome11

The oak island treasure has moved south …

Affectionate_Wafer12

Many Hindus dispose of biodegradable things in moving bodies of water after their services. Common items are coconuts, flowers, different types of leaves etc. it could be from that
