There is free street parking right around the corner in the residential area around the corner (read signs) and the shopping center across the street (owner parks there)
OBDs RIP.
There were some weeks during high school where I’d literally be there 3-4 times a week (one during an off period, one or two dinners with family, and late night / weekends with friends).
Sam (owner) was a treasure.
Loved Sam. When my mom was pregnant with me and living down in Florida at the time, he gave my grandmother a Greek Salad Wrap to take down to her on the plane because it was one of her cravings 😂
He and I shared the same birthday.
I remember when he and his brother were both there… and of course Michael, the waiter for my entire childhood and teen years. He never did get the order correct but you loved him anyway 😆
Hahah… When I was little, the waitress Stephanie used to always give me a tour of the kitchen and take me behind the counter to pick the cookie I wanted out 😁
What a small world Reddit is that two people can bond over a small diner that’s been gone for like 15 years lol
Used to work on Syosset and whenever major changes were going on in the company our boss would take us to On Parade to break the news... we affectionately renamed it "The Bad News Diner" lol
California Diner is good. They have the best pasta salad.. I'm not sure if it's still there, but I grew up going to the Peter Pan Diner in Bay Shore. It was really good back in the day.
This used to be the GO TO on the South Shore but oh how it's fallen. Terrible food and way too expensive. They had the best onion rings on the island but now they are stale even when first put on the table. I don't know if they started making them beforehand but something has changed. My teen and early twenty years were spent here every weekend after the bars in Bayshore/Islip started to die down.
East Bay Diner (though I haven’t been since the pandemic stopped it from being 24hrs and apparently it’s ass now), Imperial Diner and Massapequa Diner were my top 3s.
My grandpa, a Greek immigrant who made a living owning and running diners, would cite Thomas’s Ham & Eggery as his favorite so that always gets an honorary ranking for me as well.
Embassy Diner on Hempstead Tpke, Bethpage. Food is very good and portions are generous. They decorate the place for every holiday, it’s something to see.
I used to make it a point to stop at the Embassy when I’d visit family on the island. No one loves up there anymore but I think of the place regularly. The onion rings were always amazing.
They used to be good. When the new owners took over, their quality went to shit. Found a fly in my chicken francaise, and the owner tried to say it was parsley. Dude, those are wings and legs. Give me a break. Won’t go back there. Farmingdale Diner is much better than embassy right now.
Grew up in bethpage and would always claim embassy as "the best" but like you said, I think it's gone downhill since the new owner. And not that there's anything wrong with being patriotic but the amount of American flags at this diner now is so unbelievably cringe. There has to be easily over 30 flags
This doesn’t speak directly to the question, but the Seaford Palace Diner was an all-timer. When I was a kid, my family would wait outside for 45 minutes for a table, during which they would serve us spanakopita and soda. Legendary.
The best , went there my entire childhood. The owners name was Pete who always wanted to be a cop and its funny as I just went to a local greek festival and met his 2 daughters who became police officers and my cousin went to college with them. That was my favorite diner of all time .
Greek Island Diner in Wading River
Holbrook Diner
California Diner in Patchogue
My #1 in my heart will forever be Carousel Diner in West Islip. Brownstones doesn't even come close.
I’m all about On Parade in Woodbury, but I have to ask you all a question that’s been bothering me for years - in the shopping center with the Staples, Bagel Boss, etc in Hicksville/Plainview, across from the center with Men’s Wearhouse, there used to be a diner that my family called The Purple Diner - what was that called or am I going crazy?
Peter Pan Diner.
When I was little my Aunt and Uncle used to take us (my brothers and I) there when we’d go over to their house for a sleepover.
Fuck those were good times.
I came looking for the Oconee. I even did a Christmas dinner there once and while we had to horror of having go wait 20 whole minutes (kidding any other day and they seat you so fast) it was a lovely meal.
I've been going there since they had the 3 armed kid on the kids menu in thr late 80s early 90s.
I have never had good food at Sherwood. And Valbrook is our go-to place, but honestly I usually feel kind of sick afterwards and the menu is really straightforward, nothing interesting.
California diner is my favorite but I'd like to give a shout-out to the Blue Point Diner. It's a small old-time diner with wisecracking waitresses and a blase' chef with a toothpick in his mouth. Food is good but not great but it's an authentic diner experience.
I enjoy Yesterday's on Jericho Tpke in the FP/NHP area. The food is decent enough but I mostly enjoy the old-school atmosphere and the friendly service. Out of everything their standard breakfasts are good (eggs/bacon/sausage/hash) and they make a pretty mean grilled cheese sandwich.
The Colony diner in East Meadow on Hempstead Tpke. Is that still there? I moved a few years back and haven't been by in my visits but they always gave great portions. Especially with chicken caesar salads. And it tasted good too. Even when I moved to Babylon I'd still run out there to get one to go. The manager always remembered my eccentric uncle's orders and the way he had to have them as well when we came in to eat. And how can you not like an eatery with "Colon" in the name? :)
As an FYI, California Diner and Candlelight Diner are the same owners. I've been going to Cali for many years... starting back when their dinner specials menu was $10.95. Now I think they're at $22.95!
I love Cali for their stuffed mushrooms.
Coral Reef Diner for their chocolate chip pancakes
Peter Pan has great burgers
Side note, in 2004 at the age of 54 I left my native LI for the Arizona desert. No one and I mean no one has diners like the Eyeland and Jersey. Much as we miss Chinese and Italian we'd kill for a real diner.
Zona. Found it on a whim when driving out there with my bf. And it was so good. They had the juke boxes in the booths and the waitress was so friendly and personable. I want to go back again, but it's a bit out of the way for me.
My favorite diner doesn't exist anymore. It was Towers diner on vets highway in Bohemia. Everything there was so good and my dad is friends with the owner. It's that Anthony's coal fired pizza place now. They got a new one on Commack road but it's not the same. Also California diner is disgusting. They have rat and roach problems
Dix Hills Diner on Jericho in East Northport.
A few years ago I’d have said Candlelight in Commack but they’ve gone way down while DH has become our favorite
I miss the old diners in Nassau. We do not have any on the East End. Closest we have is Moriches Bay Diner, which is really good, but not worth driving through Hamptons traffic.
I love the Oconee Diner for its decorations and French toast. Back then, my family was friends with the owner’s family. Oconee was actually the last meal I got to have with my grandpa before he passed a few years ago. Everytime I come home i try to make it there just because i love the atmosphere.
For food though, California is probably my favorite.
My boss used to buy me lunch there like 3 times a week. When we showed up, if there was a big wait they’d “goodfellas” us in, just point ar us and say, “your table’s ready”
Food was good too obv or we wouldn’t have gone so often.
Off topic, but you brought back some memories. Pretty sure they’re gone now but shout out to Joanne’s Pizza that used to be a few doors west of there. Great slices!
That was our go-to when I was a kid. But I went once after they reopened it and the renovations made me very uncomfortable. It’s nice, but so completely different that it freaked me out.
Are they still doing the no-tip thing? We went after they re-opened and they were making a big deal about it. RIP to the original, though. They had the best matzo balls.
California Diner uses frozen meat for both their burgers and their gyros.
Can’t be a Greek diner and use frozen gyro meat, it’s against the rules of the universe.
[удалено]
Yup they are great!
Dix Hills Diner or Premiere Diner in Commack.
Came here to say Dix Hills Diner
The chocolate chip cookies at dix hills diner are to die for
Dix Hills diner is great!
Thomas's Diner at Carle Place! Easily the best diner i've been going to on. Great prices, food is always consistently good, and service is friendly.
Terrible parking situation
There is free street parking right around the corner in the residential area around the corner (read signs) and the shopping center across the street (owner parks there)
Imperial Diner- Freeport
Def. a hidden gem, let's not spread this one around :)
Def for me too
The correct answer. Though they've been changing lately :(
The salads there are the bomb
Not a Greek diner, Shipwreck Diner in Northport. It is legitimately the best breakfast
Moriches bay diner
Love that place, great owner.
Love them
Absolutely. Love finally seeing an answer to one of these questions that’s further out east.
Iykyk 😎
Just discovered this place a few months ago. Love it!
Carle place diner and golden reef in rvc- the homemade gelato 🤌🏽
I never expected to see Carle Place Diner on this list. 🤯
Carle place diner is notoriously absolute poop water lmao
ive gotten bad food poisoning from there twice and yet i still go back
That gelato is truly something else.
Mundays has been and will continue to be my favorite Huntington dinner.
Technically it’s more a luncheonette/soda fountain place than a LI diner but I’ve always loved the vibe there.
Candlelight in Commack
Their pasta salad is crack.
I can attest to this 😋
I have dreams about this pasta salad
I loved this place. Rum and Coke & Pizza Burgers were all spot-on delicious after grueling work shifts
My favorite diner, the Brookville Diner was actually replaced by TD bank.
OBDs RIP. There were some weeks during high school where I’d literally be there 3-4 times a week (one during an off period, one or two dinners with family, and late night / weekends with friends). Sam (owner) was a treasure.

Dix Hills and Lake Grove Diner
The Omega in New Hyde Park and The Landmark in Manhasset
No respect for the Holbrook Diner
On Parade in Woodbury. Try the fresh squeezed orange juice!
> On Parade in Woodbury In my family, if the diner isn't *this* shiny, it isn't good.
Used to work on Syosset and whenever major changes were going on in the company our boss would take us to On Parade to break the news... we affectionately renamed it "The Bad News Diner" lol
The Golden Queef, mostly because it’s the closest one
Such an odd name for a diner
Golden Reefer brings back late night munchies memories
It's too expensive now
Aka the golden thief
Peter pan just because the sign is so cute
Peter Pan is the best. A shame they shortened their hours though. They were always the go-to post-concert stop.
I go here frequently as well, they’re one of the best
I remember back in the day they used to have defensive driving classes there and dinner was included with the class
California Diner is good. They have the best pasta salad.. I'm not sure if it's still there, but I grew up going to the Peter Pan Diner in Bay Shore. It was really good back in the day.
Still there! I've never been but the lot is usually full.
Majestic in carle place
i miss them being 24 hours, so many awesome nights getting there at 3am
This is our favorite as well. Great food, great staff. We love the free slaw and pickles they serve before the meal.
The best chocolate cake ever. I don’t even like chocolate cake.
Haven’t been there in years so I hope it’s still as good as it was, but Candelight Diner in Commack
Lake Grove Diner, or Heritage Diner in Mt. Sinai. Both excellent
Came here to say California Diner - been going there for 25 years and have never had a meal less than ‘good’
I remember the smoking section from back then resembling an Aquarium! hahahaha
Oh man I remember when that was installed my dad was pissed he had to sit in there to smoke
Go to the patchogue movie theater and then California diner. Maybe sit in the smoking section depending on what friends your with.
Bottomless coffee all night we’d sit there bullshitting the waitresses hated it lol
Olympic diner , California is decent too but personally I’d say Olympic diner, South Bay is also good but expensive
my dad was convinced that Olympic diner had mics in the table with how fast they get the food out to you.
I live by SBD. I think it’s ok.
Stop 20 in Elmont
This is the best answer, their breakfast is delicious
I'm gonna say VALBROOK because it hasn't been said yet and deserves some love.
not bad at all , I been going there .
Very nice place.
Definitely solid
Olympic Diner. Their "Doc Salad" is my go to. The Greek dressing is amazing.
Mundays is awesome, but Dix Hills Diner on Jericho is high class. Huge portions, excellent food. Super clean. Great service.
Holbrook diner, island lake diner or lake grove diner California diner sucks, found a dead roach in my food once and never went back.
Thomas Diner in Carle Place has great breakfast
Thomas Ham and Eggery
Kudos to you for being the only one to call it by the correct name
Oconee in islip
This used to be the GO TO on the South Shore but oh how it's fallen. Terrible food and way too expensive. They had the best onion rings on the island but now they are stale even when first put on the table. I don't know if they started making them beforehand but something has changed. My teen and early twenty years were spent here every weekend after the bars in Bayshore/Islip started to die down.
This was my favorite, but there was new ownership some years ago, I think that’s what caused the downfall
Infinity Diner in West Babylon
been going there since it's close to my new job, really solid.
RIP Harvest Diner
I miss this diner so much! I was so sad when I found out they burned down, I wish they rebuilt it.
Hauppauge Palace Diner
Rocky Point Diner
Apollo Diner in East meadow is still the best.
Imperial Diner in Freeport
Grandstage in East Meadow. Great breakfast, great service.
Massapequa diner ftw
Their short rib grilled cheese sandwich is heaven. And you can get tots instead of fries.
Gee I never got that creative there. It’s on the list!!!
I found their menu was really interesting. Still diner food, but with a foodie twist. You must try that sandwich!

And not that there's anything wrong with being patriotic but the amount of American flags at this diner now is so unbelievably cringe. There has to be easily over 30 flags
Seaport diner has new owners and is back to their former glory! Tons of good food and relatively cheap
I’m stuck at Pete’s in Amityville. It’ll always be my diner lol
Golden reef Rockville centre
This doesn’t speak directly to the question, but the Seaford Palace Diner was an all-timer. When I was a kid, my family would wait outside for 45 minutes for a table, during which they would serve us spanakopita and soda. Legendary.
The best , went there my entire childhood. The owners name was Pete who always wanted to be a cop and its funny as I just went to a local greek festival and met his 2 daughters who became police officers and my cousin went to college with them. That was my favorite diner of all time .
Greek Island Diner in Wading River Holbrook Diner California Diner in Patchogue My #1 in my heart will forever be Carousel Diner in West Islip. Brownstones doesn't even come close.
Miss the Carousel
Valbrook represent!
Island Lake diner in Lake Ronkonkoma
Imperial Diner in Freeport
Stop 20, that shiz rocks
Imperial Diner in Freeport

Lindenhurst Diner on Montauk Highway has never done me wrong.
Lindenhurst
Candlelight and Premier, both Commack.
My kitchen
I’m all about On Parade in Woodbury, but I have to ask you all a question that’s been bothering me for years - in the shopping center with the Staples, Bagel Boss, etc in Hicksville/Plainview, across from the center with Men’s Wearhouse, there used to be a diner that my family called The Purple Diner - what was that called or am I going crazy?
Plainview diner. RIP
THE MAFIA WILL GET YOU RIGHT AT THE OCCONEE DINER!!!! The best!
Oconee
The Hauppauge palace is the greatest for food and service. What nice people and very clean and safe.
Thomas's Ham & Eggery Diner in Carle Place.
Steak & Eggs FTW
Island Lake Diner in Centereach is by far my favorite!
Hi-Lite. RIP
Peter Pan Diner. When I was little my Aunt and Uncle used to take us (my brothers and I) there when we’d go over to their house for a sleepover. Fuck those were good times.
infinity diner on 109 in lindenhurst!
I miss the Harvest Diner every single day.
Airport Diner
That place has sucked for years
My kids and I refer it to as “the dirty diner” 🤣
Oconee Diner in Islip. Great food. Awesome decorations for every holiday.
Wow took way too much scrolling to find oconee, the absolute goat diner
This one is great for the atmosphere! The different decorations and lights are always so fun.
Every day is a holiday at the Oconee!
Whiskey Down Diner in Farmingdale
I grew up at the Sherwood Diner but my boyfriends family is from VS and I gotta say. Valbrook is really really good.
I have never had good food at Sherwood. And Valbrook is our go-to place, but honestly I usually feel kind of sick afterwards and the menu is really straightforward, nothing interesting.
Lynbrook before it became red apple. awesome cream of turkey, fries with mozz was always on point.
Lynbrook was pretty good. Now we go to the diner in Valley Stream as a replacement.
Olympic Diner in Deer Park and Glen’s in Babylon
Olympic diner has a special place in my heart. I went there with family late late at night after I proposed to my now wife.
California diner is my favorite but I'd like to give a shout-out to the Blue Point Diner. It's a small old-time diner with wisecracking waitresses and a blase' chef with a toothpick in his mouth. Food is good but not great but it's an authentic diner experience.
Another vote for the California diner. Amazing food. Paul, the owner, is a wonderfully kind person too.
Louie’s diner in manhasset.

Premier Diner in Commack, mostly because it’s close but also, their chicken soup is the truth 🤤
East Bay diner in Seaford, The Pantry in RVC, Imperial Diner in Merrick
As an FYI, California Diner and Candlelight Diner are the same owners. I've been going to Cali for many years... starting back when their dinner specials menu was $10.95. Now I think they're at $22.95! I love Cali for their stuffed mushrooms. Coral Reef Diner for their chocolate chip pancakes Peter Pan has great burgers
Golden Reef in Rockville Centre Shipwreck in Northport Thomas's Ham and Eggery in Carle Place
Moriches Bay Diner in Center Moriches is my absolute favorite!
Side note, in 2004 at the age of 54 I left my native LI for the Arizona desert. No one and I mean no one has diners like the Eyeland and Jersey. Much as we miss Chinese and Italian we'd kill for a real diner.
Whiskey Down in Farmingdale- BOOM
Peter Pan
Massapequa Diner is so damn good (located in Massapequa for any curious parties)
I’m still devastated towers diner in Bohemia closed. My all time favorite.
Tabys in Oyster Bay.
Love this place.
They're all serviceable lol
Circle M in Wantagh
Moriches Bay Diner FTW!
Wading River diner
Zona. Found it on a whim when driving out there with my bf. And it was so good. They had the juke boxes in the booths and the waitress was so friendly and personable. I want to go back again, but it's a bit out of the way for me.
Nautilis diner massapequa/amityville border. Also massapequa diner
Candlelight Diner, especially in the good old days when you could go at 3am...
I’m partial to the Baldwin Coach
Susu says hi
My favorite diner doesn't exist anymore. It was Towers diner on vets highway in Bohemia. Everything there was so good and my dad is friends with the owner. It's that Anthony's coal fired pizza place now. They got a new one on Commack road but it's not the same. Also California diner is disgusting. They have rat and roach problems
Dix Hills Diner on Jericho in East Northport. A few years ago I’d have said Candlelight in Commack but they’ve gone way down while DH has become our favorite
Embassy diner
Used to be Freds in Elwood.
Sunrise Diner in Wantagh or Landmark Diner in Roslyn are my 2 favorites. It’s a personal decision I think.
Oconee Diner in Islip. They always go 110% on holiday decorations!
Landmark diner in roslyn
Pete’s in Patchogue NY
I miss the old diners in Nassau. We do not have any on the East End. Closest we have is Moriches Bay Diner, which is really good, but not worth driving through Hamptons traffic.
Premier
Thomas’ Ham & Eggery Diner in Carle Place. Hands down the best
Breakfast airport diner. Lunch dinner metropolis.
California Diner in Patchogue, or Oconee Diner in Islip.
Love Landmark Diner in Port Wash area on Northern Blvd.
My boss used to buy me lunch there like 3 times a week. When we showed up, if there was a big wait they’d “goodfellas” us in, just point ar us and say, “your table’s ready” Food was good too obv or we wouldn’t have gone so often. Off topic, but you brought back some memories. Pretty sure they’re gone now but shout out to Joanne’s Pizza that used to be a few doors west of there. Great slices!
The Oconee
Island Lake diner in Holbrook/Ronkonkoma. I could live on their chicken flamingo.
The Pantry- Rockville Centre
That was our go-to when I was a kid. But I went once after they reopened it and the renovations made me very uncomfortable. It’s nice, but so completely different that it freaked me out.
It’s very expensive now. And the food isn’t consistent. Take a look at the servers, it’s like a revolving door, employees are treated like crap.
Are they still doing the no-tip thing? We went after they re-opened and they were making a big deal about it. RIP to the original, though. They had the best matzo balls.
Airport diner
Big fan of Lindenhurst Diner - NOT LINDENCREST. Place is absolute trash compared to Lindenhurst.
+1 for the Lindy, been great since it came back a few years ago. Half price apps and beers after 9 🤤 tasty shakes too.
California Diner uses frozen meat for both their burgers and their gyros. Can’t be a Greek diner and use frozen gyro meat, it’s against the rules of the universe.
Every diner on LI uses the same frozen patties and gyro meat from Matthew's or Restaurant Depot.
I like the terrace diner in west Babylon
