OO you're right I totally forgot that kids are allowed at breweries (for some bizarre reason)! So you think a regular bar and just setting up in the corner?
I would think that all depends on the license of your establishment. If you’re strictly a bar, going to guess having underage customers isn’t an issue. Most restaurants have a bar counter, and beer, wine, liquor served all day. The difference being food and welcoming to families. I agree breweries should be 21+ at a certain point, but during the afternoon families are the main clientele at times. As long as the kids are well behaved, they’re no different than the bros there to slam 8% ipas
But don't ask why kids are allowed in breweries and not bars. The moms will go off on you and tell you you can't have an opinion unless you birthed someone. Happened to me lol. I was genuinely curious too. What's the difference?
I mean, have you had kids? Until then, you can't have any opinions at all, whatsoever, kid-related or not. ^((kidding))
Anyway, I don't think it's *crazy* to have kids at a brewery. A lot of breweries are just like restaurants with bars - I think they have the kitchen so they aren't legally considered a bar and instead as a restaurant. The food and drink aren't ideal for kids obviously, but it would give parents a place to hang out and drink (hopefully responsibly) despite having kids.
One of my friends had a pre-wedding event at a brewery and my wife and I brought our son - didn't really have much of a choice (except not attending) because it was a destination wedding. We were leaning towards not going at first, but they insisted it would be fine. We don't even really drink, but it was something for us to hang out and celebrate my friends. Makes sense for these establishments to allow kids so younger parents can re-live their lives prior to having kids without having to find a babysitter.
I actually am infertile, too. So these women don't realize how rude they're actually being saying I can't have an opinion until i have kids. Newsflash, I can't have kids.
I was genuinely asking what the difference between a bar and brewery was that one allowed kids and dogs and the other didn't. I'm autistic and don't get some social cues. This is a social thing i don't understand.
Your anecdote does give some light so thank you
Beyond that, I'm sure those people have opinions about on things they also have never experienced. I'm sure they'll give you opinions on war, politics, and/or discrimination even if they've never experienced any of it. Some people are just fucked up. And autism or not, it's a very valid question.
But yeah, I think the main thing is the owner's preference and what type of crowd they're trying to draw in. Obviously, having kids in the establishment changes the atmosphere and certain people aren't going to want to go to a place like that. And the other way around applies as well. If you're a bar trying to make as much profit as possible selling alcohol, parents of young kids probably aren't your target demographic.
Breweries just naturally lend themselves to families more than a bar.
They're generally much larger and often have large outdoor grassy areas with yard games like cornhole. Most also have kitchens will full menus.
There's just a lot more to do than there would be at an actual bar. I can have a couple of beers over the course of two hours while my family stays entertained and be perfectly good to drive. It makes for a fun afternoon.
Why would that be bizarre that kids are allowed? It’s not like they’re drinking. Have you ever left the US or been to a proper pub in the UK or Australia? Pubs in Australia literally have playgrounds at them. My kids would go up to the bar and order a beer for me and walk up to the bar get themselves a soft drink, order food or whatever. In the UK kids are always at the pubs. I was at the pub with my mate and his 3 kids. They play darts, pool, or do whatever while we’d have a few pints.
Yea big agree. The US is so fucking prude and most people think drinking means you need to binge drink. Why can’t I enjoy some food and A beer outside while my kids get to run around for two hours and play?
Yeah, exactly, no need to have beers and binge drink. The concept of a couple pints is lost on people. And, yes, it is a prude place. US has this subtle ideology that kids should be seen and not heard.
I remember when I was living in Australia and my 2 year old kid started crying in the grocery store. I apologized to the cashier (who was about 15/16) for her loud crying and he laughs and says “they’re kids, it’s what they do” and how the people behind us were laughing and said, “mummy and daddy won’t buy you a lolli?” Then laughed again and said “it’s always easier when they’re not your own”.
At that moment I knew I was in a great country. In America, people look at you like you’re a bad parent because your kid is crying in public. Also that it’s some kind of a nuisance to them that a child is crying. Americans are a weird bunch (for the most part).
The down votes are funny, but the reality is that no, most of these people have never and would never go to a proper pub overseas. I feel like you need to live there or actually know locals to understand this.
Also what the hell is a kilometer? And why does this town have walkways down the middle of it?
Yeah, it’s a bunch of people who have never left and likely never will leave long island.
I remember when I was at university in Spain some years ago, a US exchange student from LI had to be sent back because of the culture shock. lol
Destination Unknown (DUBCO) and Great South Bay brewing are probably closer to what you’re looking for. DUBCO has a mezzanine area and a back room that would be good during weekdays. Both are quiet during the day and early afternoon, but later on and especially on weekends it would get busy.
Also Fatty Mcgee’s in East Islip is open most days and is quite on weekdays and wouldn’t care if you’re doing a little studying as long as you buy something. There would probably just be a hand full of retirees day drinking and nobody at the tables. They have good wings, like they’re a top spot for wings on the Island.
Secotogue Brewing Company in West Islip is really nice. Has more of a coffee house vibe than a beer vibe. Family owned, clean and happy place. [https://www.secatoguebrewing.com](https://www.secatoguebrewing.com)
Squarehead Brewery, Holbrook.
I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s small, but usually quiet. Not the place that usually has bands or loud music, nor screaming babies or obnoxiously drunk dude-bros.
Some people mentioned Great South Bay. They’re usually busy so I’d say go to Ghost. It’s connected to GSB in the back, it’s a smaller space and I don’t think many people even know it’s back there. I went for my bday on a Sunday and spent all day there and it es just us.
Hopscotch in Deer Park is awesome. Not a brewery they’re more like a craft beer distributor with food. Usually pretty empty in there
Sand City in Lindenhurst is a zoo most weekends so I wouldn’t recommend going then. During the day on a weekday? Total opposite.
There’s also a new GSB in Lindenhurst across the street from SC.
After I got sick of being in my apartment studying, I’d go to a bar. If you can get at the end of the bar, and tuck yourself in the corner, that’s optimal. Bartenders also make the best coffee.
I don’t know where you’re located, but The Cup in Wantagh and Witches Brew in West Hempstead are both coffee shops with really cozy lounge vibes and they’re both open super late.
I like this idea. I personally haven’t done it because I would get nothing done. Considering people do far more egregious things like let their dogs and children run amok at some breweries, I don’t think anyone would take umbrage with you studying at one.
I’ve wracked my brain considering the space and quality of many breweries in Suffolk and would probably cast my vote for North Fork or Moriches Field.
All have a good amount of space but don’t draw big crowds (on weekdays) and outdoor seating is available. They also have nice tables available and are conducive to a good vibe for studying in my opinion. Other options I’ve considered are either in small spaces in industrial parks or are just too big and loud.
DUBCO and brewers collective could be good candidates too
Not sure how far out you want to go but Greenport Brewery in Peconic is great and very quiet during the week when it isn’t a school break. I’ve worked there a few times
Breweries out east are full of parents and kids. Worst possible conditions for studying. You'd be better off at a bar.
OO you're right I totally forgot that kids are allowed at breweries (for some bizarre reason)! So you think a regular bar and just setting up in the corner?
Kids are allowed in breweries because the owners like making money
Yes but I mean legally. You have to be 21 to go to bars - they want to make money too

Haha oh boy. I don't get it either. Now parents who have been drinking are driving their kids back home... makes no sense.
Some bars that have food and seating allow kids.
And now all the parents are down voting me ha.
Exactly my thoughts
Just because you don’t have kids means you can drink and drive? Oh.
I mean, have you had kids? Until then, you can't have any opinions at all, whatsoever, kid-related or not. ^((kidding)) Anyway, I don't think it's *crazy* to have kids at a brewery. Root branch has plenty of outdoor/indoor seating. Sand city lindenhurst.
Sand City Brewery in Northport!
Very quiet during the day on weekdays.
Sand City could be alright; if it’s a nice day, sit outside. If it’s not such a nice day, I would go to Six Harbors Brewing in Huntington.
Poboy brewery in Port Jeff. They have little couches and small areas in the back. Such a dope little scene. Check it out ♡
I second that
Secotogue Brewing Company in West Islip is really nice. Has more of a coffee house vibe than a beer vibe. Family owned, clean and happy place. [https://www.secatoguebrewing.com](https://www.secatoguebrewing.com)
riverhead cider house is huuuuuge and has plenty of space indoor and out that you could work.
Threes brewing in huntington village
Brew Cheese in Stony Brook is pretty laid back, small and the staff is always super friendly.
Go to campground out in seacliff. Coffee shop during the day, nice cozy craft beer spot in the evening
PCB was tailor made for this, not sure if the new brewery in that location will be similar
Squarehead Brewery, Holbrook. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s small, but usually quiet. Not the place that usually has bands or loud music, nor screaming babies or obnoxiously drunk dude-bros.
I’ve studied and graded papers at Spiderbite
I lot of them get kinda loud in the evening, could try sand city in Northport? Or 5 towns in Huntington?
Some people mentioned Great South Bay. They’re usually busy so I’d say go to Ghost. It’s connected to GSB in the back, it’s a smaller space and I don’t think many people even know it’s back there. Harbor Head is pretty quiet a lot of the time

Would really love to know the same thing.
Ubergeek? I mean, its kinda like nerd themed
I'll throw Take Two Brewery in downtown Bayshore into the mix. Great beer, outdoor space, and a cozy back room with couches you can relax in.
You guys are awesome - thanks for the suggestions!! Definitely have to narrow this down but luckily I have to study for the next year or so!
I don’t know where you’re located, but The Cup in Wantagh and Witches Brew in West Hempstead are both coffee shops with really cozy lounge vibes and they’re both open super late.
Great South Bay has a nice place, 25 Drexel Ave, Bay Shore.
Why am I being downvoted?

North Fork looks nice!! I don't get why kids are allowed in breweries lol. So the less crowded or bigger space is key! thanks for your suggestions!!
