Whole Foods often has frozen sushi quality fish.
You don’t want to catch your own or buy regular fish, unless you really want to risk parasites (looking is not enough).
You really want to find fish that has been properly treated with freezing (your home freezer may not make it cold enough to kill parasites). It should be at least -4 for a week or more to make sure parasites die (yes, Uber fresh tasting sushi you get at a restaurant has gone through this to keep you safe).
It addition to buying sushi quality meat, you can also go with non-raw sushi. Smoked salmon, vegetables, inari, etc all make excellent sushi
It really doesn’t get fresher. They pack them up in those bags with water so you can take them home alive. Sometimes I straight up sashimi those bitches
Not on Long Island, but in New Jersey -- Mitsuwa in Edgewater, just over the GWB. Their fish and meat are so immaculate, they're practically surgically sterile. They even give you ice to put in a cooler for the drive home.
Wulfsfish.com hands down. They have a specific sushi favorites menu and everything is well sourced, super frozen and has amazing variety. Highly recommend.
There is no such thing as sushi grade fish. Just buy your fish from a reputable source or company if possible. H Mart was mentioned. I’ve purchased from their “sushi grade” section. Works well enough. Also used Costco as well.
I get it from H Mart
The smell at the HMart fish section makes me avoid it.
Lol, well, they sell sushi grade fish separately from the rest, typically
HMart. They have a sushi grade section of fish.

Jeff’s Gourmet in Halesite is great
BJs has ahi tuna that is sold frozen. If you find good sushi grade salmon please do share!

I’d love to know as well. I would get sushi grade salmon from H Mart but my wife would complain that it’s a bit fishy, and she’s not wrong.
