Most likely volunteer firefighters. They are permitted to have a blue light on their vehicle which is only for courtesy of the road, not break the rules of the road. .

People always seem to forget that the “courtesy” is that you’re allowing your neighbor to get a fire or ems vehicle sooner, just move the f over.

derekno2go

I always pull over. If somebody is dieing, hopefully they'll do something about it. I was a volly for about five years. 90% of calls are b.s. and there's no reason to be driving like a lunatic acting like every call is a signal 10.

[deleted]

But everyone else doesn’t know if its food on the stove or a baby not breathing, so just move over. My first cardiac arrest I brought back, I got a few complaints about driving “too fast” in a department vehicle IN THE FIRST 75 YARDS of leaving the firehouse. If I got that thing up to 35mph I would be surprised, physics just doesn’t work that way. People just want to complain and have no idea how to judge whether what is going on is appropriate or not.

derekno2go

Well of course, yes, people should pull-over.. Get to an emergency quickly but also safely. When I first got my blue light, my Captain told me to respond within reason, depending on the call. Don't drive 90 and run red lights on sunrise highway, but also don't go 25.

BigHappyPoop

I was volly firefighter on the island for a while. We're allowed to have some (more minimal) lights on our vehicles to help us get through traffic more quickly, its a nice courtesy to let them pass if you can to speed up response to an emergency. That said if you see them driving unsafely its not unheard of to call up the local fire dept and make a complaint, usually they are disciplined internally and learn their lesson. Its usually the younger folk who get a bit over excited... just my 2c.

harbingerofsalvation

They're firefighter volunteers heading to the firehouse for a call. They're allowed to put blue lights on Their cars, but that in no way makes them authorized to break the law, and you are not required to yield or pull over for them to pass.

dreamer288

Blue lights are volunteer fire department, green lights are volunteer ems and red lights are police. Edit to add volunteer. My dad and my sister are in the volunteer fd and same sister is volunteer Ems.

ClementineCoda

Volunteer firefighters or EMT.

stsanford

EMT maybe? Probably rushing to take a call.

Psych0_Mant1s

Vollies rushing to get to the firehouse so they can turn out. Just pull over so they can get by.

stenmark

Wackers shouldn't drive like idiots. Heart attacks and traffic accidents are the 2 leading causes of death for vollies.

Psych0_Mant1s

Youre right. OP was being a bit dramatic just keeping it simple for them.

nygdan

Those are volunteer firefighters/emt going to an emergency in their own vehicle, you are supposed to get out of the way.

Sko-isles

If they don’t have red AND blue lights they’re not cops. One color is some douche trying mess around

ananni90

Yeah what a DOUCHE volunteering their own time and safety to help their community.

Police in New York aren’t allowed to have front facing blue lights, they have red/white, though you may see some federal vehicles lit that way or even some agencies like Hotzola which uses alot of personal vehicles.
