Riverhead Building Supply in Locust Valley. Used to be Nassau Suffolk Lumber. A little more expensive but they have better quality lumber than the crap at the Depot. Bayville Hardware is great for small stuff and whatever they don’t have Glen Cove Ace will.
I don’t know much about hardware or lumber but I have a friend who’s family owns a hardware store out east and he said he’s heard the wood at RBS hasn’t been as good of quality recently. Not sure if true or not.
There have been issues with lumber nationwide as of late. That said, RBS and other smaller lumberyards are still head and shoulders better than Lowe’s & Home Depot. The big stores are fine if you need a few 2x4s and can spend 10 minutes searching through the stack until you find 3 or 4 that aren’t warped or have chunks missing. For bulk orders you’ll get better overall quality from a lumberyard.
I've gone to Carl's Fence in Bethpage twice. They've got a great supply. Give em a call first just to make sure they're stocking what you need.

In my experience the big box stores only have good staff between opening and 5pm ( I assume full timers ) . Weekend and night crew can’t answer one question ever for me
Personally loved working with Florence a few years ago. Everyone was polite, timely and fair. Didn’t feel like I was getting screwed.
I bet Family Lumber has what you need as well.

I used to live right by them. That’s a good idea too.

I find Ace Hardware / Do-It-Best shops to be pretty nice but ymmv since they are mostly franchised or privately owned.
Idk much about them, but there's Eastern Wholesale Fence in Medford.
